CHAPTER-2 SETTLING IN AND STUFF!! I was just searching for the dorms at the college when a girl dressed in shorts and t-shirt which said "My dad is stronger than your dad" came up to me and:
girl: darling, yu still love me na??
me:umm yu got the wrong person!!
girl:tum itni jaldi mujhe bhul gaye?!
me:huh?? hey, i hav no clue what you're talking about!!
Girl: arre aise kaise mujhe bhul sakte ho?? Wo bhi "mujhe", she said emphasizing on "mujhe"
I was stunned bcos I met this girl for the first time!! Girl: kahan kho gaye?
Me: nothing, umm I don't know you!
Girl: neither do I ..
Me: what?!
I was confused.. what a girl, comes up to me with a "I love you" drama without even knowing me-strange!
Girl: *laughing now* chill, it was just a tp drama!
Me: kyu, jobless huh?
Girl: tum nahi samjhoge… its just a survey..
Me: tum pagal ho??
It was the first day of college, and this girl wanted to take a survey.. Girl: yup!
Me: so objective of this thing you call survey?
Girl: different guys, different reactions , bahut maza aata hai!!
Me: yea sure,
I said laughing!Btw whats with the t-shirt?
Girl: hey, I love my dad okay!
Me: ya, who toh dikh hi raha hai! Tum seriously pagal ho!!
Girl: pata hai!
I finally went to the hostel-room and my room-mates had arrived before me! I got to know their names - atul and rahul.!
at: hi dude..
me:hi
ra:hi
at: ye hi-hi kya laga rakha hai??
ra:toh kya bye-bye bolenge?!!
at:rahul lame joke-very!
ra:thanks!
me: wait,you two know each other?!
ra&at:yup! We are best frnds from like 4 years!!
Me: oh that's great!
Ra: atul! Lets go to the canteen else "fool" will kill us!
At: ya she will !! lets go… armaan wanna come?
Me: ya!
I had no work so I went with them.. actually I was more curious to meet this girl! Fool, such a strange name…
Canteen was a one kilometer walk from our dorm. But it was worth it! The canteen was huge and was just like the food-court of any mall! There was caf coffee day, sub-way, dominos, dum-aloo-some north-indian Punjabi restaurant, dosa-plaza -southie, a Chinese one! It was like wow cos Im a big foodie!
Ra: hey fool!!
Fool: don't "hey me" … aur aaram se aate na tum log!! Twenty-minutes is just nothing!
At: sorry yaar! Btw he is armaan our room mate..
Me: hi
Fool: hi, I'm
Before she could complete,
Ra:fool! She is fool!
Me: oh, ok.. lets go and sit somewhere atleast.. its hot!
Ra: lets go to caf coffee day!
I placed my order. Rahul went to the wash room, and atul got a call from his parents, so it was only fool and me at the table..
Me: so whats ur real name??
Fool: my name is riddhima gupta..
Me: it's a nice name! why do they call you "fool"?
Ri: its complicated!
Me: im sure I can keep up!
Ri: when we were in 11th grade there was a teacher who called me lily..apparently I resembled her mother's sister's daughter's cousin lily.. so she called me lily!
Me: whats that gotta do with ur name?
Ri: lily is the name of a flower, flower=fool in hindi so!
Me: absurd!
Ri: temme abt it! This was the best explanation Rahul and atul could come up with!.
Me: so where are you from?
Ri: from…..
She thought for a while and said,
India!
Me: okay….
I quite dint understand and she understood that I dint understand!
Ri: its again another story!
Me: all ears..
I really wanted to know her story behind that! Ri: ok! Actually I was born in London, so I was british and then I went to US with my parents and got an american citizenship and now, finally im Indian!
Me:"great! I was always Indian"
I said sarcastically!Just then rahul and atul came back and then we ate together.. they were really cool ppl! I had just met them and gelled in so well!!
Ra: fool, who are ur room-mates?
Ri: dunno..
Me: huh?
Ri: I haven't gone to the dorm yet! First thing I wanted to do is meet yu guys!
At: aww thanks!
Ri: its okay!
Me: so wheres ur luggage?
Ri: *coolly*car mein!
Me: kiski
Ri: meri obviously!
Me: gr8! Yu got a car to college!
Ra: lets get ur luggage..
Ri: thanks but girls dorm mein kaise aoge?
At: we'l drop you at the entrance.. that's the least we can do atleast!
Ri: oh thanks! Chalo fir..
We dropped riddhima, and returned to our room. The beach was only a walk away from the campus. We decided to get ready and explore the beach. College started only two days later but-who cares?!
Me: call riddhima too..
Ra: ahan,..
Me: arre she'l get bored.. so ..
Ra: itna concern?!
Me: stop it! Call her up man!
Ra: ok ok!
Rahul called "fool" and she said she'd meet us at the entrance in 10 minutes.
After we got ready,
At: chalo, rid told 10 minutes..
Me: abbe ruk, ladkiyo ke 10 minutes kabhi 10 mins nahi hote..
Unki language mein 10 mins = half-an-hour
Ra: ahan.. waise tujhe kese pata?? Kafi experienced huh?
Me: ya ya!
At: bata na..
Me: arre kuch nahi.. I have two sisters, so I definitely know!
Ra: par riddhima aisi nahi hai..
Me: sab ladkiya ek jaisi hoti hai
Ra: wo dost meri hai
Me: wo ek ladki hai!
At: theek hai!! We'l go after 15 minutes.. fine?!
Me: okay and we'l see.. kaun pehle aata hai!
Ra: we will!!
So after 15 minutes, we went down to the entrance only to find riddhima NOT there!
Me: I told you! Ha!
Ra: ok ok! Par aisa kaise ho sakta hai?
Me: whatever, aisa ho gaya hai!!
Ra: theek hai!
After what it seemed like eternity, riddhima came along with two other girls. Maybe her room-mates I thought! Wait! One of the girls looked familiar.. ah,. She's that crazy girl I met in the morning..
Ra: fool, itna late?!
Ri: sorry…
Ra: tumhari wajah se..well,forget it!
Ri: meri wajah se what?
Ra: nothing, I told armaan we'l come down in 10 minutes, but he was like lets go down in half-an-hour cos yu need time to dress up nd I was like rid is not like that and then yu kno, yu came late nd that's the whole thing!
Ri: hahaha!! Im not like dat but den I thought of bringing my room-mates along! Oh, btw guys meet muskaan and anjali..
Ar: main muskaan se mil chukka hu! Nyways, hi muskaan, hi anjali!

At: atul here!
Ri: chalo gadi mein baat karlo yaar..btw I only have a indica, so we'l hav to fit in some how!
Fitting in the car was…. Difficult! We practically couldn't breathe!!
Ra: rid jaldi chalo.. meri jaan chali jayegi!
Ri: offo rahul dialogs mat maaro.. "jaan chali jayegi" it seems!
At: waise armaan, tum muskaan ko kab mile?
Me: subhe, wen I was coming to the hostel..crazy she is!
Mu: thanks!
Me: compliment nahi tha
Mu: fir bhi!
Me: huh!!
We reached the beach and it was-WOW!! Omg, I forgot to call mom oh shit!even naman and rohit!! I was busy admiring the awesomely awesome campus!!
I called my parents,
Mom: beta, pohoch gaye theek se na?? koi problem to nahi hui?? College kaisa hai? Aur hostel? Waise tere saath room main aur kaun hai? Main to…
Me: (cutting in) mum, relax!! Main theek se pohoch gaya.. koi prob nahi hui.. college acha hai aur mere room main rahul aur atul hai! (moms are moms!!)
Mom: acha! Le dad se baat kar..
Me: theek hai!
Dad: hello armaan,…
Me: dad im fine..my flight was good.. college is great and my room-mates are cool..(I said before even he could ask me anything)
Dad: theek hai lekin I dint ask!!!
Me: fir bhi !!, dad,I've to go now.. main aapko raat ko call karta hu!
Dad: ok,bye!
Me: bye dad.
Parents just need to know everything! After that I called naman and ro..
Me: hi guys!
Ro: hi, kaisa hai?
Me: main theek hu!
Ro: main teri baat nahi kar raha tha.. I was asking about goa!
Me: ha! FYI goa is awesome.. girls are like ooooooooh!!
Na: theek hai saale!
Me: aura ab main beach pe hu! Its awesome man!! Too good.
Ro: fine yaar. Ab bas bhi kar!
Me: koi jal raha hai!!
Na: stop it now! Waise how r yu?
Me: main theek hu.. campus is awesome! Just like in the web-site!

An: telling his gf about his whereabouts obv!

Me: jus talking to parents and my friends!

OMG!!! Look guys!
Me: wat happened?
Mu:*excitedly* look at the beach! Its omg!! The sky is so blueeeeeeee and the water is so cool.. and the sand is so fine and nice! Its so so soft! and look at that kid – so sweet!!
All of us: huh?!?! :O
Me: I told you guys! She is C-R-A-Z-Y!
An: ya totally!!
Mu: yu wont understand!! Mother nature- its so beautiful!
An: wat do yu like here the salty,dirty sea water, or the amazing humidity?!
Ri: lols! its not that bad!
Me: 4get it.. lets play!
Ra: haan chalo!
We played beach-volleyball! Even though it was hot, we had great fun.. after a while we got tired and all of us sat down spreading our legs as if we owned the beach!
Ri: so guys, where r yu from?
Mu: im from Punjab.. wat abt yu?
Ri: im from London..
Mu: ahan.. gr8!! Rahul where are yu from??
I saw that muskaan was a lil interested in rahul cos yu kno the way she looked at rahul.. having two sisters I could easily tell!
Ra: im from Punjab!! Where do yu stay in punjab??
Mu: r.j nagar.. yu??
Ra: ditto!! Strange we never met!
Mu: ya.. wait, are yu rahul grewal??
Ra: yaa… y??
Mu: yu no wat!! All thanks to yu.. my mom loves yu more than me!
Ra: I don't even kno her!
Mu: whatever,.. she knows yu.. "kitna sweet ladka hai.. kitna padhta hai.. blah blah!!"

Mu: tum roj apni mom ke saath mandir jate the na? even my mom used to!
Ra: *murmuring* isse sabke samne yeh kyu bolna tha?!
Mu: kya bola?? I so so hate yu!
Ra: maine kya kiya?!!
I really was shocked!! Jus two minutes before she was like so interested nd now she hated him! It jus took minutes to change from love(not exactly love but still) to hatred.. girls are so so weird!!
I mean bechara was jus being sweet to his mom nd must hav been difficult too- going to the temple-EVERYDAY! Nd muskaan hates him 4 dat!! Non-sense!
An: stop it!!! So atul where r yu from??
At: im from Mumbai!!
An: me too!! Wat abt yu armaan??
Me: coimbatore..
An: wat?
Me: 4get it.. its in Tamil-nadu
An: wow… tamil mein baat karo na..
Me: I don't kno yaar!

Ri: guys, its getting late.. chalte hain!

We reached the campus and it was only 7..
Me: guys its only 7.. we'l sit in the canteen for a while only if yu guys are ok with it..
An: ya cool!! Nyways theres time till 8-30..
Ri: ok!!
At: chalo!! Lets go..
We walked to the canteen nd I had a lil cold so I went to order a hot coffe for myself..
when I went back I heard anjali telling, "my mom said do what yu want to do! Nd I really wanted to do UG here, so here I am !!
I really wished I had that choice! Do what you want to do!!
In 11th after taking science, my dad was like "beta do something in life" nd bcos of that something lecture, I was to join iit classes! I dint mind it in the beginning but as 12th started it was hell!! Managing school became so difficult nd towards the end I really regretted it! But it was too late to do anything.. I had given my college applications, entrances n everything!! Sometimes I really wondered what I was going to do?! I really dint want to do engineering but I had no choice.. I mean my mom manipulated me emotionally so well that it was like I had to do it n on top of that she asked me "beta im not forcing yu na?" I couldnt say nything! At the end I had no clue wat I am doing, why i was doing?! I was clueless nd blank! Blank was the apt word..Someone shook me. "armaan, kya hua??" riddhima asked, bringing me back to planet earth! "kuch nahi", I replied.
Ri: tum kya soch rahe the?
Me: kuch nahi…
I was lost..again I was thinking "main kya kar raha hoon.. kyu?!"
Ri: hey are yu ok??
Me: ya im fine,
I said, trying to hide my lost nd worried exressions!
Ri: I don't think so!
Me: im fine oly!
Ri: ok! If yu say so!! Bye then.. il go!
Me: bye.. c yu 2moro!
Ri: ya fine.. bye!
Oh god!! Kitna ghada hu main.. seriously.. who kya sochegi? I went to my room nd to my surprise, atul nd rahul had slept! Strange, it was only 9! I had nothing better to do nd I was tired too so I decided to sleep as well… thinking about how I hated d course I chose or rather my dad chose nd wat I'd be doing n stuff, I fell asleep!
