'Samrat! Utho jaldi se!' It was a bright and sunny day in New Orleans. Gunjan had awoken two hours ago and had been trying her hardest to get Samrat awake.
'Samrat! please utho na?!'
Samrat murmured in his sleep: 'Chashmish... sirf paanch hi tho bajje hain. So jao aur mujhe bhi sone do!'
Gunjan frowned and placed her hands on her hips.
'Samrat! Paanch nahi dus bajje hain!! C'mon! Ab itna bhi thak nahi gayye ho tum!'
she shook him gently.
Samrat grabbed her hand and hugged it, still half asleep.
'Please Chashmish. Sirf do minute sone do na?'
Gunjan was surprized at Samrat's sudden movement. Her hand was stuck. He was holding it like he never wanted to let go.
'Samrat. Pichle ek ghante se yehi bol rahe ho. Buhot ho gayya. Utho aur mera haat chodo'.
'mmmm'. he murmured. He was sleeping with a smile on his face. He did neither.
Then Gunjan remembered her cell phone. She went to the ringtones and put it on full volume. she placed it near his ear and played it.
...
Samrat's POV:
I practically jumped out of my skin when I heard the ear deafening noise. It was some sort of Japenese music. I sat up abruptly in bed.
'Kaun?! Kya hua?! What's wrong?!' I screamed.
That's when I noticed Gunjan. She was on the floor killing herself laughing. My heart hammered in my chest. How could someone look so sweet?
'Tho mister Samrat Shergill, aapka goodmorning ho gayya?'
She laughed so hard that there were tears brimming in her eyes.
I Got up and folded my hands, pretending to be angry.
'Ha Ha! How funny! Buhot mazaa ayya hoga na, mujhe darra kar?'
Gunjan tried to keep a straight face.
'Sorry Samrat. Mujhe aisa nahi karna chahiye tha. Par tumhaara expression dekhne laayak tha. Sach.' she couldnt hold it back any longer. She burst into giggles but this time I joined in.
...
One hour later, Gunjan and I were seated comfortably in one of the most famous restaurants in New Orleans, eating a light breakfast.
'Waise Chashmish, mujhe nahi pata tha ke tum bhi mazaak kar sakti ho. Mujhe tho laga tha ke tum apne books ke saat hi time spend karti ho.' I teased.
Gunjan frowned.
'Haan. Woh kya hai na? Tumhaare saath rehke thodi bigad gayyi hoon.'
Now it was my turn to frown. How I wished Gunjan loved me as much as I loved her. It was really amazing how in one day, my feelings for her changed from friendship to love.
Suddenly, my cell phone rang. It was my mother. once again.
I didnt have to think twice before cutting the phone.
'Kaun tha?' Gunjan asked. I smiled to keep the mood light.
'Kyun pooch rahi ho?'
Gunjan smiled back unconvinced.
'Nahi... woh bas iss liye kyunki tumne phone kant diya...'
My smile dissappeared. How long could I keep lying to her? I quickly tried to think of an excuse.
'Mujhe achcha nahi lagta agar koi humaare quality time me phone kare tho. Iss liyye maine phone kaant diya. '
I said. Gunjan found this awkward. I could tell by her face. she blushed. I changed the topic.
'Main apne liye ek coffee lene waala hoon. Tumhe kuch chahiye?'
Phew. Thank god she hadnt guessed anything.
' Mere liye ek orange juice leke aoge please?'
I nodded.
'Theek hai Chashmish. Main abhi leke aata hoon.'
I moved towards the long line.
...
Gunjan's POV:
I was sitting there waiting for Samrat when two hooligans came up to me. They carressed my cheek.
'Hey Babes... what's ur name?'
I flinched away from them. This time they grabbed my hand.
' Don't touch me .' I said, getting panicked.
They didn't listen.
' I said don't touch me!'
They snickered.
'Oh really... whose gonna stop us?'
Suddenly, someone grabbbed his coller from behind. It was none other than samrat. My hands were still shaking. But I knew everything would be ok now that Samrat was here. He looked so angry. His eyes were burning red. I tried to calm him down.
'samrat... please. Unhe chod do!'
Samrat pushed my hand away.
'Chup chaap khadi raho Chashmish. I'll take care of it.'
He turned back to the two men.
'If you want to live, then you had better get out right now. Otherwise u dont want to know what I'll do to u. U got that?! Get lost!'
They left the restaurant in a hurry. I had never seen Samrat so angry. I looked down to see that Samrat was holding my hand. I felt a wave of affection towards him. I pushed this feeling back as we went back to finish our breakfast.
End.
