Part 1
She opened the door as the bell rang, looked up into a stunning face, her heart skipped a beat and she fell in love. As she kept looking at his face, the world around them stopped. All that existed was him, her and her beating heart. Then someone shook her.
"Riddhima, let them in" Padma, her mom wispered. That brought her back to the real world. And all she could hope was, please dont let it be him. Please God, I'll do whatever you want me to, but please don't let him be the man who is going to marry my sister.
Since Riddhima is still standing there thinking, her mom pushed her aside and opened the door wider, smiling. "Namaste ji. Welcome to our home, Im Padma, " she invited them in. A lady came through the door first, saying "Namaste, I am Sunita" as well, mid 50's, good looking still, but one can tell that she was a beauty in her youth. Then entered an adorable looking kid, maybe 5 years old, followed by her greek god (he really was one, tall fair and handsome. Something out of a fairytale) and another guy who was goodlooking but didn't hold a candle to her love.
Everyone was standing in the foyer with an awkward silence surrounding them. Actually, the lady who had fixed this alliance, Kavita Aunty had taken to bed with a sudden stomach bug and wasn't able to make it. The families had wanted to postpone the meeting till she was better but Kavita Aunty wouldn't hear of it. So now, everyone is here and really, it seemed like no one knew what to say next. Then suddenly, the kid asked the older lady, in a really adorable way showing a dimple in his left cheek, "Is she the one who's going to marry chachu?" pointing at Riddhima and for the second time that day, she fell in love.
That broke the ice and everyone laughed. "No Sunny beta, that is not your Anjali chachi," the older lady, sunita, replied. "Then who is she?" sunny wondered out loud.
"Good question beta. Im sorry, I seem to have forgotten my manners. Please let me introduce my family. This is my husband Shashank and my younger daughter, Riddhima," Padma laughingly added whereas Shashank and Riddhima said folded their hands in greetings as well.
"And I seem to have done the same," Sunita smiled as well. "This is my grandson, Sunny." Sunny waved. "Hello, How are you? My name is Sunny Malik and I am 4 years old," Sunny added showing 4 fingers on his hands to his hosts. Oh how cute.
"This is, as you know, my younger son Atul," Sunita said pointing at the not so goodlooking guy. Oh thank you God. Thank you!!!. Riddhima sent her grateful thanks heavenwards sneaking a peak at her greek god. He is not the one who is going to marry her sister! It was all she could do to stop herself from jumping for joy. Actually, Riddhima has just come back this morning from her hostel in Delhi where she attends college and hasn't yet seen the picture of Atul, the potential groom coming to see Anjali today. Ever since her arrival, everyone had been busy with the arrangements for the visit of the groom. Now that finally she has seen Atul, Riddhima had to admit that Atul was actually very nice looking (again, nowhere near her LOVE), but still pretty handsome.
"And this is my older son, Armaan" Sunita said as her greek god put his hand towards Shashank and her to shake it. aww..Armaan, what an apt name. He is just what his name means. Riddhima smiled dreamily. She felt a jolt of electricity as their hands shook and quickly looked at him to see if he felt the same. But all she could see was a dimpled smile that again left her breathless.
"He is Sunny's father and let me tell you, sunny has totally taken after Armaan. Bilkul badmaash hai dono baap bete!" Riddhima quickly took her hand back from his, shocked. While everyone stood around laughing, Riddhima's heart was breaking into tiny little pieces. NO NO NO!!..this cannot be happening to her. She had fallen in love for the first time in her life and he was MARRIED!!!! No..please god no. Then a sudden thought occured to her. Maybe he's widowed. ya! Maybe his wife is not with him anymore and he's available. After all, he has come alone today. And if he had a wife, she would be here on such an important day for her devar.
"His wife Nikita is a surgeon at Sanjeevani Hospital. Actually she was supposed to come with us today too. But a surgery came up at the last moment and she couldn't get out of it," Sunita added regretfully.
"Ya. She's a great surgeon. Everyone always wants Dr. Nikita Malik to operate on them. She doesn't get much time off at all," Armaan added with a pout but the pride he had in his wife's achievements was evident to everyone.
Riddhima could feel her world going out of focus as her eyes blurred with unspoken tears. She wanted to get out of here. She couldn't bear to look at anyone right now. As Padma directed everyone towards the living room, Riddhima excused herself under the pretext of checking on refreshments.
She quickly ran to the nearest bathroom and closed the door behind her. Then turned on the faucet and started crying. "God, this is not fair! I have always believed in you. Always thought that whatever you do is for the better of everyone. Then how could you do this to me? How could you make me fall for a guy who can never be mine??" she questioned her faith in God with anger. Before today, she never had a reason to doubt that God was indeed on her side. She was blessed with a lovely family, who doted on each other. She was given beauty along with a brain that has left some people in wonder. She had amazing friends who would give their lives for her. She had never known what sorrow was because she was always surrounded by happiness. And today, when Love, the thing that she had always dreamed of, had finally happened, it only came into her life to go away from her. Love had given her a moment of happiness before it snatched everything she had and left her with a shattered heart. God, please tell me. What have I done to deserve this? And what do I do now?

Actually, I love this song. It is such a powerful song that describes heartbreak soo well. And you know sumthin very ironic. I had written this whole sad part and when later I was watching a Savni vm on this song and i thought to put it in here. Then I realized this song has put into the lyrics the exact same words that Riddhima was saying when she's talking to God...lol..I guess heartbreak is the same everywhere.
