Part 2

Gunjan's Pov

I can do this -

I can!All I need to do is-

""..walk gracefully down the stairs with the perfect smile and eyes downcast and dont you forget the blush.."" said my mother from my side.

Her words made me more nervous.This was horrible-everyone was staring at me.I swallowed hard and concentrated on moving my feet.Amid all the stares I could see someone's eyes much more intensely fixated on me.

And i made the mistake of looking at him-He stood watching me with such tenderness and longing that it was difficult to look at him long.The stare made me blush harder-and I almost tripped.

Finally the stairs came to an end and I stepped down-I was glad when I saw Nupur Di hurrying towards me but someone side stepped her and came to stand by my side.

Before I could blink Samrat was standing next to me.I looked up at him in confusion-why was he standing here?

I looked at Ma -she gave me a confused look.

""May I?"" he said giving me his hand.

I looked up again,this time his eyes met mine.I stared at him trying to understand him while his eyes sweeped over my face once,twice and again.The heat rose in my face and his lips curved in a smile.

I could hear titters in the crowd.Benji cleared his throat loudly.

""Take his hand Gunjan-you guys can play who looks away first later!""

Some people burst out laughing.I wished the floor would open up and swallow me.This was embarrassing -actually beyond embarrassing!And there was Samrat smirking at me.I looked down almost feeling tears well up when Pamela aunty saved me.

"Samrat-.Dont tease Gunjan-Go stand next to your friends"she scolded him.

""Sure-Can I atleast say she looks beautiful?""

I was sure if I got any redder I would probably burst into little tiny pieces.Pamela aunty whacked him on the head and winking at me he left.

""He seriously is besotted by you Gunjan.""she said taking my arm.
I closed my eyes.

An angel in white!

My angel...my chashmish..my Gunjan!Mine...

If you asked me how my engagement party was all I would tell you was she looked beautiful.Dressed in a simple white sequined saree her voluminous black hair resting on her shoulders,her eyes heavily kohled-she was my dream!!

I stared at her as her cheeks flushed again.I could barely make out what my mother was saying -all my senses were concentrated on Gunjan-her smell-she smelled like freshly ripe strawberries.I wanted to bury my face in her hair and breath in.

""Samrat ..""My father nudged me.I looked at him.He extended a ring and I took it.

""The engagement is important because through this ceremony it signifies that you are actually making a place in you hearts for each other.""

A place for her in my heart- she owned by heart!It belonged to her.

Smiling broadly I placed the ring in her finger.I looked up-she was looking down shyly.

""Gunjan..""

She nodded and took the ring from her mother and tremblingly touched my hand.I almost gasped.It was as though someone jolted me with an electric shock-her fingers were soft and smooth and when she placed the ring on my finger I clutched onto her hand.

Her eyes flew to my face frantic and confused.Seeing her eyes widening with fear I lifted her hand and kissed it,my eyes closed as I signified my subservience to her.
