Character Sketch

Kripa Sharma- Age 33. A marketing expert for a large international firm. She left her hometown of Ann Arbor, MI at the age of 17, heartbroken and hopeless. After her MBA, she settled in Miami, FL. She lives with her fiance Prithvi Bose, and they've cohabitated for around three years. She recently found out that she's pregnant, a news she thought would bring happiness to both her and Prithvi, and finally convince him to get married—something he's been stalling for a long time. However, things don't always turn out as expected, and Prithvi says he needs time to "think". Heartbroken yet again, and with nowhere to go, she returns to the only other place that's familiar to her—her mother's home in Ann Arbor, another thing she's NOT looking forward to.

Angad Khanna- Age 34. A physician who spent the last 13 years in Atlanta establishing his private practice. He came from the "bad part of town", growing up in poorer pockets of society. Had a bad-boy image growing up, but all he wanted to do is become a doctor.Three years ago, he moved back to Ann Arbor, because his father-in-law suffered a major heart attack. He hasn't been able to move back to Atlanta however, much to the chagrin of his wife Mishti and son Prateek. His wife who insisted that they move back to Atlanta eventually grew depressed and started drinking...eventually passing away in a car accident due to drunken driving. The loss of Mishti, the hardship of being a single father to a teenaged son who displays nothing but contempt, and the guilt of hurting his first love have been taking a toll on him. Frustrated, he keeps busy with his father-in-law's private practice.

Prateek Khanna- Aged 16. The only son of Angad and Mishti, basically a good kid at heart, he's been deeply affected by his mother's sudden death, and blames his father for her miserable last days. Like his mother, he too misses Atlanta, and wishes that someday he could return home. His anger makes him act out against Angad, straining the already tense relationship between father and son. His only outlet is his notebook, but that is strictly his private property, and nobody is allowed to even touch it. He doesn't have any friends at his high school in Ann Arbor. No one except for Avantika, who he wishes would leave him alone, and is quite rude to her.

Mishti Khanna (nee Varma)- Now deceased. Angad's wife and the mother of his only child. She hated Ann Arbor even though it was her hometown. She thrived on the Atlanta social circuit, but felt suffocated when their family moved back to Ann Arbor to be with her father. She started drinking, and lost her life due to a drunken driving accident.

Prithvi Bose- Aged 33. An ambitious lawyer that would go to any lengths to be successful. He has one aim in life: to become the most successful lawyer in the country, and is willing to sacrifice whatever it takes to get there, including his fiance and unborn child. He keeps stalling his and Kripa marriage, and is very unhappy to find out that Kripa's pregnant. He asks for "some time to think" when Kripa tells him she's pregnant.

Gayatri Sharma- Kripa's mother. Her and Kripa had always had a strained relationship, and for reasons unknown to only Kripa. Gayatri is a stoic lady, independent yet traditional in her values. Though she and Kripa's now-desceased father separated when Kripa was 12, she never actually divorced him, stating that "they didn't do that back then". Only she knows the real reason for her difficult relationship with her daughter, and trying to keep it to herself has caused much friction between them over the years.

Aaliyah Malhotra- Kripa only other "true" friend from childhood. If it hadn't been for Angad, Aaliyah would've definitely been Kripa's best friend. She understands Kripa more than Kripa would like to think, and was always available to lend Kripa a shoulder to lean on, no matter that Kripa didn't take it. She's married to her high school sweetheart Josh Malhotra and has three children Avantika (14), Siddharth (11) and Sameer (8).

Josh Malhotra- Aaliyah's husband and loving father. Though he's a tough city cop by day, he's a loving and caring husband and father at home, especially to his first-born and only daughter Avantika.

Avantika Malhotra- Aged 14, is a freshman in high school. She's always around Prateek, who she wants to be friends with. Although he's downright rude to her, she brushes off his rudeness, as she understands he's still mourning his mother's death.

Rajesh Varma- Mishti's father, a minor character. He's a physician who suffered a major heart attack 3 years ago, and since has given up practicing full time.
