The Germans have a word for it, the appeal of some of these shows," he says. "It's called 'schadenfreude.' It means taking delight in the misfortunes of others. It's a guilty pleasure."

A lot of psychologists attribute the success of reality shows to this. Waite and Booker call this phenomenon "humilitainment," the tendency for viewers to be attracted to spectacular mortification.

If reality viewers are in fact tuning in to feel better at another person's expense, Waite predicts a maladaptive future for heavy watchers. "They expect it's OK to humiliate and to be humiliated by others, instead of thinking there's something wrong with this behavior," Waite said. "The world they're living in is different from others." In this world according to Waite, the borders separating on-screen from off-screen blend indistinguishably.

Its OK. What I had posted was a common theory as to why reality shows are popular. There are other theories that contradict it also. I was trying to put forward a general view on reality shows, not FG in particular.

Hi Ramani, What maddy means is that the drama bit in FG went well with the people. Fg was more of a reality drama than a singing competition! Seeing all the onscreen drama with real people we the general people felt better & said we are better off in our own world. Basically, watching Fg was guilty pleasure of some. Felt guilty but that was entertainment for us the people!

Though some people criticized that the enthusiasm of the fans changed the nature of the program and reduced its cultural content! Some people said: "The fans are the people most unconcerned about the singing. They only need to see their idol or favorite chosen by them on stage. As long as the idol stands there, it does not matter how he or she sings, they will cheer. Therefore, success does not depend only on singing, but it depends more on personal charm and other complex reasons. Qazi, is not a trained singer & is just learning singing but is very enduring & endearing at the same time.

If customer satisfaction is the ultimate standard to rate products, then the acceptance by the audience is the most convincing standard to rate singers. Going by that Qazi is the best! 😉 😃 There is no single formula that will satisfy everybody. So enjoy the flavor of the month......Qazi & Rupu!! 😃

Because of the publicity and drama surrounding them. The drama is what made them heros and zeros at the same time. 😆
