True Abba was a hit in our heydays. But, I had been a die hard fan of the Beatles, Pink Floyd and later Clapton.

I think you are talking about female spiders. You rarely get to see dead male spiders, as they are eaten up by their female counterparts immedaitely after completion of mating. The crumpled up legs indicate to the male spiders, that they are not in danger zone.
I have a dead tarantula spider collected from Death Valley(Mojave Desert) - it has a span of about 6-7 inches. But its legs are not crumpled.
