Hello Guys,
Our beloved Mr. Touqeer has been flashed in The Times of India. Here is the article that has been published a few days ago. ( I am sorry if I am posting it again, if someone else has already posted it. )
Crackers boom as Qazi brings fame to Valley
By M Saleem Pandit/TNN
Srinagar: He was born a few years before terror ripped across the Valley and grew up in the shadow of AK-47s, grenades and bombs in what was then a pro-militant neighbourhood in Srinagar. Today, Qazi Touqeer is the latest heartthrob of the nation.
It is party time at home as he has become a part of the Fame Jodi in the popular TV show Fame Gurukul. Qazi Touqeer's house in Kaw Mohalla is flooded with well-wishers and fans, who remember a boy who would always have tears in his eyes at the misery he saw around him. "I am happy that my grandson Touqeer has achieved success in Fame Gurukul," said 85-year-old Mohammad Khalil, Qazi's grandfather.
At the shamiana, pitched outside Qazi's house, an endless stream of visitors gathers to wish the family well and also bask in the young man's musical glory. Bygone days, when security forces were given a tough time by Kaw Mohalla residents and the locality was a safe haven for gun-totting terrorists, are clearly a thing of the past. Residents of the are burst cracers outside Qazi's house delighted that he had won. Nusrat, 13, was not the only fan to visit the Qazi home since Thursday night. Hundreds of other fans continue to rush in to wish the family well two days later. As Qazi's mother is presently in Mumbai and his father in Holland, the guests were received by Qazi's uncle Rafiq, his grandfather and grandmother. Grandma Amina Begum said: "It was my dream to see Touqeer become something especially as his father renounced the world."
Mohammad Khalil explained: "I wanted my grandson to do something extraordinary, as his father Mushtaq Ahmad gave up a law practice and became a Sufi in 1995."
Qazi's Rafiq, who sings Kashmiri songs on local TV, said: "Though I never gave singing lessons to my nephew, Touqeer would watch me doing riaz (practice). He is a born artist, who can't see tears in the eyes of people or see them fighting. It distressed him greatly as a child." Class 7 student Mohammad Faizan said he was thrilled that Qazi had become a member of Fame Jodi.
