The back-stage squabbling and whispering and whining among contestants in Monday's show ( Oct 10) led me to pose this question to myself: What have the contestants gained and what have they lost by joining the FG show? Have they become better singers and performers? Have they become better human beings?
The contestants joined the show to gain name, fame, and money. Most of them have become famous (or infamous!) already. The Jodi will also win the contracts and the cars.
They were subjected to discipline in gurukul, and were instructed and trained. They had fun, I'm sure they enjoyed learning, and performing on the stage, but they also passed through immense stress and torture.
But my question is: How much have they improved as singers and performers? Is there a qualitiative leap in their competence or performnace? Similarly, have they improved as human beings?
Well, some of the contestants have improved. Qazi. for instance, has shown improvement. Others, too, may have improved in different degrees. But tell me honestly: Has the improvent been qualitiative or spectacular? I don't think so. Gain in confidence is not the same thing as a gain in talent or competence.
On the other hand, I find most of the contestants have not improved, but rather degenerated as human beings. This is where compeition for fame and money leads one to. All of them, have - once again in different degrees -lost their innocence and naural goodness. Oh, how many times have their failings and contradictions been exposed on the screen!
I wish the contestants recover their goodness and generosity, purge their selves of the dross, the pollution, that has attached to them during the competition.
Let me recall the words of Jesus Christ: What if you win the world but lose your soul!
