He really was Govind's cousin according to Harivamsa. In cahoots with Jarasandh and they planned a 2 pronged attack on Mathura. G and the Shurasena Yadavas (Shouris as I saw in KMG😆 ) beat a strategic retreat but later G killed Kalayavana in a one on one or got him killed.

If Yavana means Greek, the Kalayavana means Black Greek. He was the son of Sage Garga and a Greek Queen

Panchali clearly says he carried the burden pretty much alone, while the hubbies 'pursued their virtue' and paid court to HER. I don't understand how THIS woman is thought to be a pawn.

https://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m03/m03231.htm

Formerly, eight thousand Brahmanas were daily fed in the palace of Yudhishthira from off plates of gold. And eighty thousand Brahmanas also of the Snataka sect leading domestic lives were entertained by Yudhishthira with thirty serving-maids assigned to each. Besides these, ten thousand yatis with the vital seed drawn up, had their pure food carried unto them in plates of gold. All these Brahamanas that were the utterers of the Veda, I used to worship duly with food, drink, and raiment taken from stores only after a portion thereof had been dedicated to the Viswadeva. 1 The illustrious son of Kunti had a hundred thousand well-dressed serving-maids with bracelets on arms and golden ornaments on necks, and decked with costly garlands and wreaths and gold in profusion, and sprinkled with sandal paste. And adorned with jewels and gold they were all skilled in singing and dancing. O lady, I knew the names and features of all those girls, as also what they are and what they were, and what they did not. Kunti's son of great intelligence

p. 475

had also a hundred thousand maid-servants who daily used to feed guests, with plates of gold in their hands. And while Yudhishthira lived in Indraprastha a hundred thousand horses and a hundred thousand elephants used to follow in his train. These were the possessions of Yudhisthira while he ruled the earth. It was I however, O lady, who regulated their number and framed the rules to be observed in respect of them; and it was I who had to listen to all complaints about them. Indeed, I knew everything about what the maid-servants of the palace and other classes of attendants, even the cow-herds and the shepherds of the royal establishment, did or did not. O blessed and illustrious lady, it was I alone amongst the Pandavas who knew the income and expenditure of the king and what their whole wealth was. And those bulls among the Bharatas, throwing upon me the burden of looking after all those that were to be fed by them, would, O thou of handsome face, pay their court to me. And this load, so heavy and incapable of being borne by persons of evil heart, I used to bear day and night, sacrificing my ease, and all the while affectionately devoted to them. And while my husbands were engaged in the pursuit of virtue, I only supervised their treasury inexhaustible like the ever-filled receptacle of Varuna. Day and night bearing hunger and thirst, I used to serve the Kuru princes, so that my nights and days were equal to me. I used to wake up first and go to bed last. This, O Satyabhama, hath ever been my charm for making my husbands obedient to me! This great art hath ever been known to me for making my husbands obedient to me.

@sabhayata - thanks for the citation.

@anu - I have some doubts.
1. why it is necessary that Krishna should know about the war before DS? I don't think he was unable to plan according to the situation's needs.
2. Also why should Draupadi be a part of all G's plots? I agree they were best friends. But I think she was intelligent & matured enought not to interfere in his matters which he might not have shared with her.
Regarding Draupadi's volcanic reaction, I think it was natural for anyone who had to go through all those assaults. That never means she wanted her family dead. She might have only wanted her own justice, at that very moment, & that doesn't mean she wanted everything destroyed for her own justice. We cannot blame Draupadi for whatever happened in the war & to her family. Her family did not support her when she was facing all those assaults, did they? Actually, the war, for me, is roughly like how Bheeshma got killed. They fought war keeping Draupadi's assaults in front, but in their own minds, what each person wanted was different.

It is not necessary for G to have shared his plans with her. But as my citation says, she was running a substantial part of IP, if not all of it. How does one simply decide I am going to put someone there who is capable of all this and not share this decision with her? And if he didn't, how did she not recognize his plan?

The point I am trying to make is, if G wanted Yadavas in power, he would have had to know about the war in advance. When he engineered the Pandava takeover of Aryavarta, as far as he knew, it would have been YuDi son who would have inherited.

Yes, he can change his plans according to circumstances. But then that would definitely mean he had not been planning the death of all the kings from the time of his entry into MB.

Again PANCHALI stated she would wage war, with or without his help.

Also even in KK, he really had no way of telling Abhi would have a child or that it would be a son. If he really wanted to Yadavas to rule, he would have helped Abhi, not Ju.

Also lets say, the Boloji article was completely true and Panchali did not recognize G's plans till later. G knew she was doing all of this in IP before and would have had to know she would yet again. They were in power for 30+ years after the war. Why would he not think that she would use it to avenge herself? After all, she had previously threatened to go to war with or without him. Obviously she was not that blinded by her affection for G

The key phrase in your post is AT THAT MOMENT. But the war was not waged at that moment. In any case, Panchali has shown many instances of forgiveness even within the moment with Jaydrath and (tried) Keechak and later with Ashwi. KK came after years of thinking about it. There must have been a reason SHE insisted on it

😆 Sorry Jamy, I get peeved about this.
If G wanted war it was because he had a very astute plan for (take your pick) social reformation / putting his clan in power.

If Panchali wanted war, it HAD to be because of revenge and that too without giving a second thought to the number of deaths that would occur, the families that would be destroyed and wealth that would be lost. And all of this, in spite of being raised as a princess in a warrior can and being the wife of an Emperor (perhaps de facto emperor for a number of years).

I would much rather think of her as a highly intelligent (which she was) and logical (also was, which she clearly showed in DS) villain rather than a docile and love lorn fool, who asked 'How high' when G said jump.

Plus, for me, Panchali always > G > Ju

hmm, why wouldn't she insist on taking revenge? the insult she faced at dyutsabha was traumatising. duryodhan didn't leave the pandavas alone even after that. ghoshyatra incident happen, it was backfired, sending durvasa rishi was a bumerang. panchali forgave jayadrath because he was dushala's husband, keechak was sudeshna's brother he was given a seccond chance.

By that token D/D were closer relatives, their crimes were bad but Jaydrath and Keegan actually attempted rape, and the Ps did not want to to kill D/D. Why then did Panchali want it anyway?
