Hi Everyone 😊
Back with another one shot, this time on the current VeeBa track.
My friend has been incredibly busy, as she's coming to the end of her course, but she's been stress busting by writing a little. We always discuss the show, and she told me that although Baldev is rather transparent with how he feels, Veera's side is more of a mystery. So I told her to try and get inside Veera's head on the current track. She's added an extra scene as well.
As always, apologies for the English dialogues (there isn't much anyway).
Enjoy 😃

Lately

It was happening again. She could practically hear the squeaky cogs in her brain running and whirring in the silent darkness of her bedroom. Her scattered thoughts were pushing and shoving their way around her jumbled mind. Sighing loudly, she brought her hands up from her sides and massaged her temples. The small, circular movements were gentle, as she tried in vain to dull the throbbing sensation.

Every night that week had been utterly restless, and it just seemed to be getting worse. It was all his fault, she thought bitterly.

These days, there seemed to be something simmering beneath the surface of their conversations. Flames had always ignited whenever they argued or fought. They were an explosive pair. Now that she thought about it, it had always been there. That unexplainable element present in their red, hot moments of anger.

And that's where it had stayed.

Confined in their fiery stares and locked jaws. Riding on their harsh words tossed back and forth. It had sizzled strong and addictive in their veins, tingled in their fingertips as they launched themselves at each other. Like magnets, pulled together by an unnamed force. Repel, attract. But now, that something' was spilling, spreading, evolving. Changing...

So much had already changed, she thought emotionally. In a matter of months, her world had come crashing down upon her head. She had found out the truth. She was her Veerji's half-sister. The woman she called Biji had not given birth to her. Her family had been facing financial ruin thanks to her educational ambitions. Veerji had married Gunjan Bhabi to save her and her family from humiliation and only they knew the complete truth...

She groaned loudly and sat up, swinging her legs off the bed. Dangling them off the side, she placed both hands flat on either side of her body, a pained look gracing her features lit by the faint stream of moonlight creeping in through the window.

The one constant in her life had been her interactions with him. Yes. The infuriatingly, frustrating man who teased, taunted, bothered and pestered her to no end. She threw it all back at him and more, of course. This was normal. This was how it worked. This was who they were. It had always been like this. But lately...

Her stomach twisted uncomfortably as she remembered how his voice had dropped, the soft husky words hitting her hard, paralysing her as she stared up at his handsome face.

"I may not know small things about you...but I know about things that are really precious to you..."

She ran her left hand unconsciously over her lower right arm. She could still feel the ghost of his fingers where he'd pulled her towards him. His touch had imprinted permanently upon her skin.

She remembered thinking that she had never seen that look on his face before. His eyes were burning into hers, but there was no anger in his caramel pools. They seemed to tell their own story, as if it was just for her that his eyes spoke such loud volumes. It was unsettling how one person could pour so much emotion into a stare. If she didn't know any better than she may have thought that he...

Scrunching her eyes tightly shut, she titled her head back, pointing her chin in the air.

He said he wanted to marry her. Correction. He was going to marry her. At first she'd thought that this was his new way to irritate her, so she had snapped back and told him to stop with his nonsense. But as the weeks had gone by, it seemed he was serious.

She expelled a heavy sigh and opened her eyes. Those challenges she had thrown at him were meant to be road blocks, a way to slow down his barrage of marriage talks. This was how they had always communicated. Challenging each other. She didn't know any other way with him. And the hard truth, she admitted to herself begrudgingly, was that she was incredibly afraid of losing control of yet another part of her life. What else could she do?

It was apparent that he was taking her challenges very seriously. His confidence was growing by the day, and so was something inside of her. She had started to notice that he was looking at her differently. The way his eyes soften and focussed on her for long moments, capturing her equally feather light gaze. She remembered how that something' kept rearing its head, coursing through her veins, spreading warmth and fire like when they would argue. That something' was one thing she really didn't want to examine right now.

And there is not much I can do about it, she thought frustrated. She had tried to back away, discourage him and act as if she wasn't impressed. But she was...

The unique and endearing ways in which he went about completing the first two challenges was very unsettling. The amount of times she had caught herself almost smiling dreamily at his actions was very unsettling. How he was making her feel was very unsettling.

If she were honest with herself, she'd say that whilst he was flawed, brash and bratty, she knew that he was good. That his heart was always in the right place. He truly cared deeply for his family and his pind. He was brave, determined, confident and far too charming for his own good at times.

That's why she'd always felt compelled to guide him onto the right track. Had watched as that goodness shone brighter as he grew into the man he was today. Plus, he was funnier than she had ever given him credit for...

She withdrew her hands from either side of herself and placed them in her lap.

Memories of last night's celebrations poured into her mind. She was dancing with the pind girls, and then he had appeared dancing energetically. She had heard loud giggles from across the room, and as she stared at her Biji's wide smile and pearls of laughter, she felt that familiar fire flood her entire being as she looked back at him. Irritated with her strange emotions she walked away, annoyed on the outside, but begrudgingly beaming on the inside.

He had always made her biji laugh, she had thought, the corners of her mouth lifting slightly.

He had followed her on her way to the bathroom, pulling her into a shadowy alcove away from the noise and chatter.

"What on earth..." She had yelped as he took her upper arms and trapped her between himself and the wall. Her eyes were huge as she took in the situation. Both of his palms were flat against the wall on either side of her head. He was closer than he had ever been. She could see the velvety rings of colour swirling in his irises. He stared unblinkingly at her. There was no laughter in his eyes now.

By then she had recovered enough to yell at him, but what he said next made her words die in her throat.

"Why do you always run away from me..." He had used that voice again. The voice that made her blood pound. The seconds had worn on, and still he hadn't moved. He was waiting. Waiting for her answer.

She remembered trying to create some distance from the growing tension between them. She could feel it, rising with her pulse at their proximity. Her mind was elsewhere, as his deep stare had once again captured her eyes.

Somewhere in the back of her mind, she heard a tiny, furious voice telling her to push him away. She extended her arms towards his chest, her palms ready for the impact...

But it never came. The moment her hands had come into contact with his chest, they lay flat as if they belonged there. She remembered feeling his racing heartbeat, and how her own rose to match the pace of his so that they were beating simultaneously. Together.

He broke her gaze and glanced down at his chest. He then withdrew his hands from the wall, placing them upon her hands, still stuck to his blue kurta. He held them there, lifting his eyes slowly back up to hers, a new light beaming from within them.

"Why can't you understand what I want..." he'd whispered, softly pleading.

He took a step closer, and bent his head agonizingly slow. She closed her eyes as she let his words wash over her...

"VEERA!! Where are you?!"

A voice came from the hallway, loud and clear. The small world they had created for themselves shattered at the sound. They jumped apart, and a split second later, Veera had managed to regain a small fraction of her senses and ran off as quickly as her wobbly legs would carry her.

She put her head in her hands at the memory. She had found her Biji and Chaiji and asked to go home after that, feigning illness.

Things were certainly changing between her and Baldev, that was evident, but what was she going to do? She could no longer ignore the situation, or what was happening. They needed to talk seriously before things got out of hand.

She lay back down and rolled onto her right side. This was going to be a long night.
