Chapter 45
"Hukum par hamla hua hai"(Ranaji was attacked) Explained Ram Singh to a worried Govind Seth and his wife.
There was a doctor with Ranaji now as he was taken into Seth Govinds home in a rush and lay to rest in one of the rooms.
As he explained the details of what looked to be an attack from a dacoit who had stolen the little the king had his rings and maybe his watch but left Indravarden badly hurt and unconscious at that Gayatri was returning from her trip to the village temple when she overhead the conversation. As expected her eyes and expression took to a very worried state.
With the elders explaining that it wasn't as bad as it looked Gayatri who hadn't seen her Ranaji for days now felt unfortunate that her encounter of him was to be like this.
She looked from the glass within the door of the room Ranaji was behind and saw him lay unconscious for some reason Gayatri felt that maybe her prayers this morning had been lacking for something so fortunate to occur.
Worried she was but soon enough came news of Ranaji having regained consciousness which Gayatri was thankful of but one thing others did notice was that Gayatri had not yet given Ranaji an opportunity to see her and it was only right that his wife be the one to take him the ointment he needed over anyone else but Gayatri hesitated. For reasons only she knew of but the women could sympathise with.
Damyanti only reminded her daughter of her obligations the rest was up to her.
Swarna however who had seen Gayatri over these few days knew what this distance was doing to Gayatri, she also knew that there was a sense of coldness in the air between king and queen. Gayatri had this feeling that she had not yet been completely forgiven by him. That he remained angry and would not want to see her but Swarna knew better. The moment he committed to sending Swarna here was the moment Ranaji had pledged to be by his queens side it was just that she didn't see it.
Even if she did Gayatri had never been good at tolerating pain. To see him hurt would upset her and the king did not tolerate weakness of that sort. It would only infuriate him .
"Une takleef mein dekh kar ham kamsor padjayeyge Swarna aur Kamsori tum jaanti ho ranaji barshash nahin karte.."
(To see him hurt will upset me Swarna and the king does not tolerate such weakness.)
Gayatri wasn't wrong but she also didn't see what Swarna did. Swarna saw a couple very much in love and where there was love these little things did not matter.
There was insecurity in Gayatri about the little things in this moment but like a friend would Sawarna helped her realize that her worries were false.
"Jaaon, Aur waise jaise tum Ranaji ko pheli baar unki patni ban kar mili thi." ("Go and not like this, go the way he saw you on the first morning after your marriage.")
She smiled and pulled out Gayatris curly locks to the side and pulled her saari over her head a little because if there was one thing that won over the king it was innocence and gayatri as she once was is exactly what won him over at the time and would now.
A gentle knock on the surface of the door is all Gayatri took aid of to announce that she was there but that too was not a requirement he knew she had arrived. Call it intuition or observation or a sign of one in love.
From the mirror reflection as he sat on the side of the bed he could see Gayatri. Her eyes to the floor she looked just like she did on the morning after their wedding. Simple, beautiful, innocent but silent, he observed her for a moment whilst Gayatri hearing no objection enters the room.
How both of them had missed one and other but in the air lingered the conversation that they never had but sometimes silences told the story better than words did as was the case here.
She was unsure of where she stood with him and he was unable to really look Gayatri in the eyes, the wife that was forced live away by expectation or obligation.
Whatever it was Indravarden was wise enough to know that no wife would ever want for this in her life it was just Gayatri who was goodness in all she endured.
Ranaji had injured a few bruises some blood shed the worst of which looked to be on his arm and as Gayatri took a seat beside him with that ointment he bought his arm a little closer for her to apply it. He watched her intently of course he had missed her incredibly in the last few days. He did not have many words but he hoped she would understand his silence and did he hers. He watched apply the ointment the one thing that struck him was that his young queen no longer seemed to be phased by blood or hurt for that matter.
There was no pain like being apart from and there was no pleasure like knowing she was aiding him in duty as a king and that was where Gayatri had formed her strength. Just as there would be need for conversation to the strange silence in the room both King and Queen here the footsteps of someone outside from the window close by. It was Ram Singh taking a seat for his no long able to stand in guard of his king outside the home as his responsibility required.
"Aap ko une apni zimadariyon se ab mukt karna chahiyey.."
She was right Ram Singh was getting old and like many others in the mehel was too devoted to Indravarden to speak of such a thing however RamSingh had often spoken to the rani's about his wishes it was just that the king always ruled against.
"Kuch chand log hai joh ham chahte hai hamare paas rahe hamare wart ke liyey nahin magar unke atchayi ke liyey bhi." (There are a few selected persons who I wish to keep by me and not just for myself but for their wellbeing too. )
His words may have had multiple meanings but Gayatri only felt his love in them. She completed the tie of material around his arm when Ram Singh himself arrived at the entrance of the room.
Shama kare maharaj par mehel par raj parivar aap ka intaasar kar raha hoga . (People will be worried by your absence in the mehel your highness. )
Ramsingh was not wrong taking it as a prompt to leave, Ranaji with a little strain puts his arms through his blazer and does not realize when Gayatri begins to help him into his shoes. A man with a heart like Indravardens was able to know why Gayatris were actions were such and even when he had put his feet into his shoes did her hands linger upon them for a moment more. The time she left from the mehel, the moment she had tried to take his leave he had rejected her gesture of asking for his blessing rather harshly. He regretted that, and he regretted this too. Dipping his posture a little he took the side of Gayatris face into his palm. Picking up her expression up to him so her eyes would meet his, he caressed her cheek lovingly telling her she could change her mind right this moment and he would gladly take her back to the mehel.

Many at the party had asked for Subharna but even as Indravarden looked around she was not to be seen.
As Indravarden searched the mehel he walked past Subharnas quarters to see she was still getting ready a sevka (maid) alongside her who suggested the Queen ware a more vibrant colours, The vibrant yellow was once Subharnas favourite color added the maid who had arrived a the mehel along side the princess as a child.
Subharna only smiled looking at the maid in the mirror - Tum toh jaanti ho Chanda jo rang Rana sahib ko pasand nahin woh ham nahin phente.. (You know i don't ware colors the king dislikes)
Ranaji observing and hearing the conversation from a far is as ever reminded of Subharnas loyalty and love for him.

Read last two parts in a go, really loved them both 😊
Chapter 46
Life was what it was for all involved after the decision Gayatri had made to leave the palace.
Rajmata was happy that traditions were being met.
Subharna was likely to be silently aware of the circumstances but she had seen so much in life now that she did not want to assume, presume or in some ways want to know what the reality was.
Ranaji was a man carrying out his duty with Gayatri as ever to heart as was Subharna in her own way because each of his relationships with his queens was special in its own way and so it happened that life had given him a chance to rectify some of wrong doings towards his older wife now and he welcomed the opportunity. Slowly being around Subharna and giving her attention was cleansing his soul so to speak and ridding him of old burdens.
Yet there was a long way to go which Rajmata happened to remind him when she visited in his chambers especially to mention that today it was Subharnas birthday and unlike all other years she would insist that they celebrate it because it was a time like no other where Subharna would get Ranajis undivided attention and that is something she deserved after all these years.
The king as expected had no objection and just as the conversation between mother and son was complete Subharna herself had arrived at the entrance of the room.
She wondered why the two pair of eyes were so for her over anything else as she entered the room she felt that she was the topic of conversation but in a good way.
Raj mata whom was leaving the room is naturally the first person Subharna offers prashad to from her morning prayers as she leaves. Her mother in law as ever has the most love for her and wishes her on her day after which Indravarden wishes her.
Intrigued he was as he watched her smile modestly.
...
Many at the party had asked for Subharna but even as Indravarden looked around she was not to be seen.
As he searched the mehel he walked past Subharnas quarters to see she was still getting ready a sevka (maid) alongside her who suggested the Queen ware a more vibrant colours, The vibrant yellow was once Subharnas favourite color added the maid who had arrived a the Mehel along side the princess as a child.
Subharna only smiled looking at the maid in the mirror - Tum toh jaanti ho Chanda jo rang Rana sahib ko pasand nahin woh ham nahin phente.. (You know i don't wear colors the king dislikes) Ranaji observing and hearing the conversation from a far is as ever reminded of Subharnas loyalty and love for him.
She was a lady to admire Subharna, there was something very elegant about her. She looked beautiful Indravarden knew in many ways he was not worthy of her but here they were.
The moment Ranajis presence was noticed the room was vacated.
She wouldn't be long she said as she looked into the mirror with conscious eyes, because she wasn't completely ready to be seen by him. His unexpected arrival meant that the maid had failed to complete her task, the back of the queens blouse still open and astray.
If that was the only thing that was holding her up then he would do it himself said his eyes.
Watching him take the first few steps towards her Subharna watches him in the mirror for a moment before lowering her gaze.
As Indravarden stood over her posture and looked upon her back, he noticed a scar that could have only been from Badi ma's unfair punishment towards Subharna at one time. For a second Ranajis finger tips instinctively lingered upon her skin, his touch turning her cold for a moment understandably so for he had not touched her in such a manner in years.
With concern he looked into the mirror to ask her if there were more but it was then that he realized that he ought to have known, he didn't expect her to answer after that said his eyes.
He drew together her blouse in a tie only thinking about his own short comings as a husband once again.
...
Subharna certainly had Ranajis attention though out the night, even when she was not alongside him Ranaji had Subharna on his mind. He noticed everything about her again this evening like he was seeing her for the very first time and maybe that is what their relationship needed. For him to recognize all the things he had over the years.
As for Subharna everything Ranaji was for her was a blessing, she savoured it but held no expectations for life was a strange thing it had a way of taking sudden turns. She kept her emotions, her joy carefully boxed within her heart, her eyes very slightly glowing a little differently.
...
There was a moment in that evening however where the king and queen spent away from each other but for very different purposes.
Subhara received a message, on a platter in due course of what was more of a simple gathering than party. It was from Gayatri, she was unable to attend she wrote but sent her wishes which the older queen received well.
...
Elsewhere in the Mehel Ranaji spent sometime thinking on his own at a balcony looking over the night sky. There was a lot on his mind and on his heart that he dealt with secretly, things that maybe he would never share with others but that was the man he was. As a maid approached he turned towards her as she uncovered a platter for him to see, he approved.
That same platter reached Subharna as requested by the king. Uncovering what was all the embellishments a queen was gifted by her king to tell her of his intentions of intimacy with her. It wasn't something Subharna had expected to say the least as she looked towards him as he was engrossed with guests at a distance.
...
Stood in the room that they once shared as King and Queen of Amerkot. That night was as vivid to Subharana as it was then. The once Ranaji had returned to Amerkot and the first time he had laid eyes on her as a lady fit to be his wife and queen. She gave her all to him that night and assumed that it was enough but it was not so.
Years on and Subharna could not believe she was stood in this manner in front of her mirror reflection in waiting for him.
There was many a thing Subharna could think about but wasn't this all she had ever wanted. His love his attention, him for herself. There was no way of describing to anyone how she felt at this time.
Dressed in the saari, jewellery Ranaji had sent for it wasn't long before Ranaji had entered the room.
Whilst he noticed how pretty she looked from the moment he entered the room he could see that there was lot going on in her mind as he expected but he wished to know exactly what she was thinking at this time.
"Kya soch rahin aap" (What are you thinking)
"Ham aap ki dusri raniyon ki jitne khusburat toh nahin .." ("That I am not as young or as beautiful as your other queens. ")
His other queens were much younger and prettier she thought in comparison to her, maybe she felt this way because she was older but it had never crossed Ranajis mind and that showed in the way he turned her around with warmth in his eyes.
Before he say anything she had something to say and respected that.
Her eyes filled with realm of love, aspiration, fear and still hope.
"Ham nahin jante ke aap apna dharm nibha rahe hai ya phir yey aap ka pyaar hai joh bhi ho ham use pyaar samajna chahenge."
...
Subharna soon found her answers within their intimacy that was more significant than just obligation it was a way of healing damage done to both souls throughout the years. It was clear that the past, hurt and the kings shared heart would always be present that was something that could not be changed. Neither of them knew if they would come out of this healed or more broken but they had left that to fate.
...
The beauty of a heart like Subharnas was that she had great respect for others feelings. Even though this time with the king had abolished so many walls and brought them closer Subharna respected the fact that Gayatri was still very much apart of the kings life and as Ranaji prepared for a new day she demonstrated that when she took out a specific handkerchief and choose it to go inside the pocket of the kings blazer. Gayatris handkerchief did she fold ever so perfectly and placed it where it belonged close to his heart one could say where Gayatri should remain.
...
From a distance a maid whom secretly watches the king and queen and takes news of the goings on in the Mehel for Swarna makes sure she is not noticed.

Chapter 47
Days would easily become weeks turning to quickly to months.
Some would say that it was to visit Swanlekha did Ranaji arrive at Seth Govinds home weekly, others would say the king was breaking tradition and was visiting Gayatri and it may have been so but for Gayatri Ranaji was gracing her with his presence for without these glimpses of him she knew not how she could continue to be so resilient.
Her heart felt heavy today for no particular reason than the obvious as she looked into the mirror and brushed her curly locks even she could see that her eyes showed how fragile her heart was at this time.
Maybe thinking about someone intently did pull them to you because if Gayatris ears served her correctly she could hear the engine of Ranajis car park outside the house from her room.
As Ranaji walked through the door of Seth govinds home he spotted first by Swarnlekha who was happy to see her brother in law. Their relationship had always been a strong one not only was he a brother in law but he was father figure to Swanlkeha and a friend when she needed one so the pleasure of seeing him was only natural. As Ranaji conversed with Swarlekha and then the children who insisted on his time Gayatri as ever kept her distance.
Maybe it was the fear of letting down her guard, or falling weak to her heart that kept her distant from him when he did visit and he never questioned it. In fact over the last few times the king had visited for various purposes Gayatri had noticed a heightened hesitancy in him to look her in the eyes she had never seen.
She watched him from a far as he sat with the children at the chess table after finishing catching up with Swarna, his eyes had wondered a little ever since he had arrived most likely in search of her but then when she did come before him for a moment with his coffee he hardly seemed to look at her and she at him yet it both of them could converse with their silences. The way gayatris hands were a little unsteady drew his attention a little more towards her. Putting behind him the shame of trying to be before her having been unfaithful to her so to speak Indravarden takes a look towards Gayatris lowered expression and as a husband is able to recognize her upset. She walked away into the kitchen as soon as she could letting a stray her tears in a silent corner.
Ranaji did not stay long, he never did and like all other times he never insisted to see Gayatri either, she kept her distant and he respected that although Swarna always tried.
Before leaving Ranaji had a very important job for little naveli and her brother. Whenever their bua got upset they were to remind her that "he loved her very much".
...
Months past this way, Subharna was well aware of the kings heart that even though he gave her love and affection, respect and attention Gayatri was still held a place in his heart and she wouldn't have ever wanted that to change.
Role responsibilities kept Ranaji focused but today something significant was going to take place that would change his life forever.
He walked the corridors of the Raj mehel after gaining news that a doctor had visited the premises but he was too late.
Rajmata and Subharna already stood in the middle in the corridor by the time he had found time for them. Naturally the king was worried yet when saw his mother and queen stood before him, Rajmata with a smile and Subharna stood somewhat behind her he wondered what it was that was going on.
Why and earth would Subharna ever need his mother by her side to approach him and that too stood in her shadow more than beside her. He was intrigued watching his mother speak with one of her brightest smiles.
"Ham atchi khabar layey hai Indar.. aap pita ban ne wale hai" (Its goodnews, you're about to become a father. )
The king needed a moment to put that together and but when he had done his eyes lit up like they hadn't in days. Amongst the little specles of happiness he was able to see in Subharna over the last few days this was the most ample moment for a long time.
He was about to become a father. He looked towards Subharna for confirmation it took a her a moment but when Rajmata moved out of the way and Ranaji had view of his queen his eyes seemed to look upon her stomach and then search her eyes to confirm the news and when she did the smile on his face was one that had been missing for a long time now.
She nodded - yes, it was true. She was indeed carrying a child. A little reserved Subharnas eyes conveyed her happiness after which she attemped to touch his feet but there would be non of that from now on he ruled. Nothing should ever strain his little one. Out of joy and commitment did he pick Subharna up and walked her down the corridor and into their room to place her on the bed. He was incredibly happy and after the reality had formed in his mind what what made Ranaji even more happier was Gayatris return into the palace was no far off now.
...
The raj mehel was not the only place that news was welcomed but also Seth govinds home because Gayatris test of patience was now over. She had decided to walk on a very painful path but she had today proved that she had made the right choice. Ranajis burdens had been shedded, a relationship mended and a new fresh start ahead of them.
...
Ranaji took great care of Subharna during this time, he was by her side every step of the way and that was something Gayatri was proud of. Although as a wife she had dreams of their family Gayatri had always been aware that Ranaji was never only hers. He belonged to all as a king and there was enough acceptance in her heart to for this too.
...
In no time at all days had passed at the arrival of Amerkots new princess as Ranaji had always claimed had arrived.
Whilst Gayatri prayed back at Seth Govinds home. Ranaji silently prayed as he paced the corridor outside the room in which his queen had gone into labour. Anxiousness was understandable but even Ranaji could sense when something seemed not right. Subharna seemed to be in a lot of pain for a long period of time and it was as Indravarden feared. Things weren't okay.
The doctor whom left the room for a moment had some troubling news. Subharna was in some sort of complexity and It was possible that both mother and child would not be able to make it. Ranaji was no compromising man, the force of a king came crumberling down on the doctor when he warned him that neither should be hurt.
The sound of Subharnas struggles continued to echo in the corridors of the mehel for a long time until there was just silence and the sound of the baby cries followed.
It was relief to his his heart but as rushed to enter the room he was stopped by the doctor.
It was not the perfect outcome they had hoped for. They were unable to save his queen said the doctor. Ranajis expression fell to its worst .. that could not be true. He barged into the room to see for himself. As he approached her bedside he saw her still and lifeless.. the cries of their baby meant nothing in this moment. He just stood broken in stare of her.
A lifeless wreck Indravarden did not even bother to look upon his child and instead retreated to his chambers to wallow in his grief.
..
The news as devastating to all, the loss of such a wonderful soul and pillar of Amerkot. News of the tragerdy was sent out to Gayatri but in the mean time
worrying was the kings reaction, he needed time they all needed that but he still had no regard for the part of him that would help him through this and that was his child. He had not laid eyes on the baby since the birth, the one time the doors to his room were open Rajmata had taken the baby in her arms so father could meet the child but Ranaji was ice cold. He did not respond or react, he was simply sat in his chair withdrawn.
It was a dreadful time for all.. but this baby deserved to be loved. There was nothing more rajmata could the only person that could now get through to him was Gayatri.
...
It was not how she had imagined returning to the palace but she was now needed more than ever before.
Tears, upset and devastation filled all four corners of the rajmehel and Gayatris heart like it did all elses but she saw a ray of hope in the baby Subharna had left behind. The baby cried and seemed continuously unhappy until it had reached Gayatris arms. Among all the sadness this baby had bought a smile to her face and it would bring change to Ranaji's heart if he allowed so.
...
Feeling the palm of Gayatris hand upon his shoulder, Ranaji who was starting into the night sky from a balcony at once turned around.. his eyes red in sorrow Gayatri was a sight for sore I eyes.
It wasn't often a king or a man like Indravarden broke down but he cried the moment he lay eyes on Gayatri as did she. She took him in the tightest embrace whilst she heard him just apologize to her through his tears.
She had returned and she would not leave ever again spoke his hold on him. There was so much to be sad about in this moment but there was also something to be rejoice.
"Aap apni rajkumari se nahin milenge" she said as she broke of his embrace still holding his hands. Rajkumari?.. it was a girl.. his eyes showed animation through the sorrow.
Yes she confirmed with the slightest smile that the heart would allow.
Swarna bought into the room Ranajis little princess in her arms, as was tradition she lowered the baby first to the kings feet and then placed her in his arms. She was the most perfect little baby girl that mesmerized him right from the moment he lay eyes on her. She soothed his sorrow and gave him a new lease of life.
...
A year later and little Rani was the be all and end all of Ranajis life of course Gayatri was too but their daughter meant the world to him and to Gayatri. She had them both wrapped around her little finger and raj mehel was a place of laughter, love and harmony. Gayatri had now become the perfect queen , her strength had only evolved greatly would continue to as she became a mother of yet another little princess and had Ranaji by her side in every triumph and struggle.
END
