Chapter 36

When Gayatri approached the kings room she was faced with the back of Ranajis posture. He on the other hand had already sensed that she had arrived. She walked into the room to see him disgarding his blazer, removing his cuff links and folding away each sleeve of his white shirt one at at time.

Gayatri started the conversation per her nature. "Aap ne bulayey.." ("You called.".) after which she stepped into the room waiting for him to explain but he only turned to her her a little.

"Sahbha mein hamara dhayan kuch bata hua sa mehsoos ho raha tha gayatri.. shayad hamare sabhajano ko bhi apni raja ki vyaavasaayikata par aaj shaakh hone laga ho ga" (I was extremely distacted in todays meeting gayatri I'm sure my council are out their mocking my unprofessionalism right now )

Gayatri looked concerned but he simply continued with his words followed by some measured steps towards her.

"Aap jaanti hai hamara dhyaan kis cheeze pein tha.." (and you know what the distraction was... ?)

"Ji ?" she looked at him confused when told her she was his distraction. "Aap Gayatri .."

It was only then that Gayatri took note of their proximity, the way in which the king stood over her his eyes speaking of his intentions for her but there was still a sense of confusion for In gayatri at what she felt the king was implying and what he was actually speaking of. If she had done something wrong in that meeting that she was unaware of it and she apologized "Anjane mein ham se koi galti ho gayi ho toh maaf kare .." (Im sorry if i did something wrong..) all the while her eyes drawn to the floor she didn't notice that Ranaji was rather amused by his queens innocence, it only made her and the moment that more appealing to him.

It was going to take more than words to settle the distress she had caused him. Gayatri could feel breath tone echo on her skin per his proximity over her.. "Saza ham denge aur Kabool aap karengi.." (I'll decide upon the consequence and you will oblige)

She nodded faintly but he wanted to hear more of a confirmation because he took pleasure in teasing her.

"Ji Sahib ." ("Yes sir ")She replied meekly without moving her eyes and that was alone enough for him to put her out of her misery and his too . A smirk on the kings lips at innocence he gradually swept into the crux of her neck with his lips, taking her by surprise he felt her go cold for a moment at his intimacy but soon enough she realized that his intention was to make love to her rather than punish her.

A shy Gayatri, a shade of crimson with embarrassment began to melt to the kings ways she too had missed him these past few days in a way she could never put into words but a moment or two into their closeness and something changed for Gayatri. She opened her eyes almost in realization if anything. Feeling his advances more vividly now it was hard for Gayatri to remain true to what her mind told her when her heart was so willing to surrender to him. "Aap jasbaton mein beh rahe hai maharaj.." ("Your judgment in clouded at this time your highness.)

Said a voice from beneath him as he continued to carress her with his lips. He partially heard what she had to say but it only went passed him. He was more interested in demonstrating his love than listening to her but she continued this time mentioning his older queen. "Rani Subharna ka soche.." (Think about Rani Subharna )Soon enough his level of tolerance for her resistance had peaked.

Did she not understand that she is what he wished for right now, she was his love and she is what he needed.

He took a step away with deadly annoyance in his eyes which Gayatri could feel even if she wasn't looking at him.

He wasn't pleased to say the least. "Shayad hamne hamre raniyon ko kuch syada hein azadi de rakhi hai" (Maybe I give my queens more freedom than they ought to have..) he mocked angrily. His eyes indicating that she could leave now but of course Gayatri did not dare raise them and so he made clear his wishes in a very irritated tone of voice as he stepped back enough this time to give her enough space leave. "You are excused.."

As Gayatri walks to leave the room she hears the king shout one of his trusties and ask him to present him a lady that would respect and obey him like a king.

Knowing well that Ranaji did not mean those words but was simply expressing his fury so it could be well heard by her Gayatri leaves the room a little uneasy but aware that It would only be a matter of time before the king would calm down and the certainty of that was already showing when he threw Diwan out of the room too for misunderstanding his sarcasm for reality.

The next morning as Gayatri gets ready to take part in the Raj sabha as was routine now she has an unusual visitor to her quarters with some unfamiliar news.

It was Yashodra stood before her with a message from the king detailing that he wished for her to attend the court alone this morning. Worry came very quickly to Gayatris expression at the news after which she wondered if this was still Ranajis resentment at her after yesterday. She put her curiosity on paper to be delivered by the hands of Yashodra herself.

The reply was a worded one which translated to something along the lines of..

"There is no place for personal matters in politics I have chosen this for you as a means for you to learn, as Rani Subharna is able to lead on the countries matters without me I expect the same from you too." All of which Yashodra repeated to Gayatri. One comfort the king had given her was yashodra who would be by her side during the assembly.

To begin with the assembly of Ranajis Kingsman were a little skeptical they wished for the King to be present and if not the king than surely Rani Subharna but they weren't used to dealing with the younger queen. An unsure start it was but Gayatri had learned profoundly from the king over the past few days and not only that she had a strong standing too. Unaware was she that the king watched from a balcony above and was proud as well as equally impressed by how well Gayatri was doing. He expected nothing less. There was a glimmer of pride in Ranajis eyes as he watched his younger queen shine and when the meeting had finished and Yashodra made Gayatri aware of the kings distance presence Gayatri saw the pride in his eyes for her when she looked up at him In the distance not only that but their eyes spoke wordlessly about their respective state of minds.

Both Rani's had been summoned by Rajmata who went on to explain that Badi Rani was on her way to Amerkot and that meant everyone especially the Rani's would have to be to their finest. That meant from the way they walked to the way they they spoke even breathed had to be on point because Badi Rani ma set a royal standard of her own much more stringent and expecting of royal conduct than Rajmata ever was.

Rajmata only wanted to warn the Ranis.

Gayatri had only ever heard of Badi rani ma but she took on Rajmatas words of caution and left when excused where as Rajmata wanted to speak to Subharna on her own for a moment.

Subharna would not say but Rajmata was aware that Subharna had reason to feel unhappy on Badimas arrival. She had never made life easy for Subharna.

Stepping that little closer Rajmata reassured Subharna by placing her hand over Subharnas shoulder who seemed a little preoccupied.

Fikar mat kare rani.. Ham hai na, (Don't worry Subharna, you have me by your side. )

fikar toh hame choti rani ki hai. (but I am concerned for Gayatri. )
