Just experience in life can do that too.I think during war he was different. More aware of the liars out there. Its probably why he seemed more aware of things in the beginning of the show. In war its easy to distinguish friends from foes. But actually he was too guarded, too black. That is what Gayatri means when she talks about him being angry.

He started changing after he realized he was misjudging Gayatri + he became attracted to her pretty fast even when he was judging her. That period confused him allot. It has to do with him being black/white. When he turned 'white' it was easy for BRM to fool him. Goal for Ranaji is to become grey, but that might take a while.

I have another perspective to his reckless actions. No human is perfect, and this maybe his character flaw.

Its his manly pride, poking its head. He does not heed advice from his mom or his wife, unless it comes with proofs. With BRM, it was blindtrust from chidhood, manipulated ofcourse, and now with Avdesh, Its his misplaced trust that he is a Yodha like him and will be fair like him. Fascination with the devil himself and it will prove costly.
He has made the judgement call that Avdesh is different, he has to be right.
He feels Avdesh is a perfect opponent for him to prove his mettle. His wife has doubts on his capability of winning, little does he realise the reason behind her fear is the opponents unscrupulous tactics. Rana is challenged and he needs to win at any cost.
Didnt he say, the sword fight was to win back his wives trust.
So far Rana has been winning, he's tasted blood, he is confident he is gonna win the dice game too,he has been pulled deep into the quagmire, there is no getting out till he loses everything, but his principles and his righteousness, his goodness, his inherent qualities, the Indravadhan that G knows and loves and respects,
Avdesh can never take that away from Ranaji and can never qualify to compete at the same level as him.
Rana might make gross mistakes, but his character would shine even through all that and G will always with her resilience and strength, keep him grounded and emerge a winner, only he needs to not give up.
.

You could be right...but frankly his character is not so shallow as to be driven by pride alone..and a desire to prove himself right...at least not where I am looking at him from!

And a man with an ego would never have deferred to G's judgment with regard to the bhog or even her taking the initiative during the crowning epi...he has respected G most of the time...except where he has held a strong opinion...with BRM, it was his deep affection for her...with Avdesh, it was his misplaced trust borne out of a deep faith in human beings..!

Yes, he was hurt by what he felt was her distrust of his capabilities...and felt the need to win her trust...he did not say that he would prove her wrong...instead he said he would fight the war in such a way that his wife would begin to trust his capabilities...I think there is a difference there!

I am not so sure about this one...if he felt he had misjudged G, he should be even more sympathetic to opinions coming from her...

And a weird sort of connect had already been established between RNJ and G even prior to his knowing who she was...the reason why one part of him distrusted her while another part felt moved by her...hence the conflict...!

But yes, RNJ sees things as black or white...and frankly Avdesh is all black...a gross misjudgment on the part of RNJ...

He probably needs to become grey like you said...develop a keen sense of mistrust even...look at everything with a tinge of suspicion...!

@Bertie,
Its not shallow, I feel majority men dont like to listen to their mothers or wives who act all knowing and ready with the "I was /am right look".
They like to make their own calls even at the risk of a loss and would prefer to bounce back, and I'm sure hate the " I told u so" look.
At the same time, when they make a mess they do regret and take counsel.
When u look at the pride and stately stride of the male lion, u can never even in your wildest thoughts imagine that they sleep mostly and its the lioness which hunts and only when the prey is too heavy, he helps her. That is nature.
Man comes with his pride and the female with her motherly instincts.

Genny...I did not say pride by itself was shallow...but to be driven purely by it is definitely shallow...and my point was RNJ's character has far more depth than that...that is about all...!

Your reason could well be a small factor but certainly not what got him to behave the way he did...like I said, if pride was what drove him, he wouldn't have done many things he did..!

But yes, like all of us, am sure RNJ has a healthy dose of self pride...and when a warrior he considered his equal paid tribute to him, he certainly felt good about it..which explains why he looked at G triumphantly when Avdesh praised him at the table...

The man did not understand that it was fall praise and intended to set him up for a fall...!

Having said this, RNJ is not going to take every word of praise to heart and trust his opponent...there were a lot many more reasons why he trusted Avdesh..!

Oh yes, its not just pride but his inherent goodness and his extreme love for G to prove his capability to her and also the thrill of men games, healthy competition and alcohol.
A heady mix of adventure and thrill and show of superiority over an equal in might.
Male ego/ pride is just a small part of the entire gamut.😃

It is taking this pride into consideration that I said that G and RM approached the whole issue the wrong way...instead of in the open hall, if they had expressed their reservations about Avdesh being unscrupulous in the privacy of his study or something, the outcome may well have been different...

Women and men have to learn to deal with each other...and the best way to rile a man is to tell him that his decision is wrong, that too when there is company...going by experience, most men are amenable to reason...you just have to put it across right..😊

I would believe the same of women too...I mean wouldn't you hate it if your spouse called you out in the presence of friends or family...I sure would!

He does listen to her opinions but to him in that moment its a he said she said thing. Ranaji needs to see proof. His instinct with these type of villains is not trained well, so he wont' feel it.
Which is why Gayatri went all out to fake her death.

And yes that conflict started early; its just that he was not sure how to feel about it.
Eventually things will lead its way, and true colors will come out.

Spot on there.👏
There would have been no outcome and Avdesh would have been sealed , packed and parcelled off to far off wonderland. But Conflict and drama is the bread and butter for ETR2 here, so Provocation is the name of the game here.😉 and the yardstick of success is TRP.

Exactly. pride and instinct don't match.
Men see it as a personal attack, woman see it as precaution
