The obvious answer to the Q would be that the creatives wanted it that way!
The next answer of course would be that RNJ's brain had gone for a holiday, assuming he had one in the first place!

There is a pattern here though. It started with BRM and now it is Avdesh. What makes RNJ susceptible to the wrong kind of people?

In BRM's case, one can't really blame him because he had been led to believe from childhood that she had his best interests at heart. She had maintained this facade for decades. It was impossible for him to imagine that the grandmother who had hugged him and caressed away his tears in his childhood could actually conspire to murder him?

But why Avdesh? He was not a lifelong friend after all. Even worse, he had just fought a duel with him.

I don't know if the creatives bother to consider the whys and wherefores of a track or even a character's behavior. However, it interests me to probe into a character's mind and understand why he/she behaves in a particular manner.

For example, we know that G has always been a fighter. So it is no surprise that she fights against any form of injustice, without a thought to the consequences. Some of her actions land her in trouble but she does not think twice before carrying the fight forward the next time round too!

Coming back to RNJ, I think he somehow seems to believe in the innate goodness of human beings. It is incredible that such a quality has been retained even after he has been witness to the horrors of World War II. War has not turned him into a cynic. He is still a romantic, trusting and believing that the world is not such a bad place to be in and people are not so bad after all!

Has he conditioned himself to believe this? To block out the horrors of the war? We will never know.

I would assume that Kunwar Chacha's truth has been clearly established before him and hence he does not trust him.

But that apart, although his inquisitive mind wonders, we have never seen him instinctively distrust anyone.

With regard to Avdesh, his first impression of him is that of a savior. He saved G's life after all and that thought can never be erased from RNJ's mind.

When he came back to challenge and fight a duel, RNJ took it as some kind of kshatriya dharma. It is the duty of a Rajput to avenge his forefathers after all.

So, like a true Rajput, RNJ also went ahead and defended the throne that had been handed down to him by his forefathers.

But Avdesh's action in not taking his life when his back was turned made the whole thing personal!

Avdesh claimed that he respected the worth of a fellow warrior and would prefer to become friends with him. He preferred to end the generations of hostility between their families.

So RNJ went ahead and accepted his hand of friendship.

Thereafter, when he met him that evening, he was still not sure what to make of Avdesh. However, when he heard Avdesh's sob story of how he had been wronged by his own family, maybe, just maybe, it struck a chord in RNJ. For he too had been just betrayed by his grandmother. Of course Avdesh preferred a violent resolution to the situation, which RNJ could not really look down upon as a Kshatriya. It was after all kshatriya dharma to kill an enemy and Avdesh had done just that.

However, he was struck by the fact that while Avdesh chose to follow kshatriya dharma with regard to his step siblings, he preferred to break the code and extend a hand of friendship to him. He had not killed him even when he had had the opportunity to.

Somewhere this fact combined with the fact that he had saved G's life convinced RNJ that here was a friend for life. When he appeared heartbroken because he claimed to have no family to back him, the soft hearted RNJ immediately offered him the comfort of his home!

In an ideal world, RNJ would have been a splendid human being. However, we hardly live in an ideal world. So RNJ appears to us a gullible fool.

But somewhere, speaking from personal experience, I do not believe that this will crush RNJ's faith or trust in humanity. He might be a little more wary but he will believe still!

I hope the lessons he has learnt from these two experiences will guide him better in future, teach him that trust is a precious gift and should be awarded with care and not squandered away on the unworthy!

That's a splendid write-up and yes when you put it together like that it makes us understand what really rnj thinks and how he acts. He is fair at the same time a softie.
Hope after the experience with this duo of brother and sister he emerges stronger mentally as well.

Thanks...don't know if you have ever seen a film called 'Swami'...it has Girish Karnard and Shabana Azmi...if you watch that, you will see that Karnard's character is the same as that of RNJ...even his own wife is irritated by what she thinks is his gullibility...finally she learns it is not gullibility but compassion...a lovely film...I think it is on YT!

You understand Rnj better than anyone else 👍🏼
I agree with u. Rnj os a very compassionate human being. According me that's what make him different from others and that is why I am in love with this character. As you said he was touched by Advesh's sob story. And offered him friendship. Avdesh confessed RNJ that he killed his step siblings. And he wanted his father to accept him as a son or a prince whatever, He was truthful to Rnj. May be this fact attraced a sincere guy like Rnj to him. After tonites episode when A refuse KC proposal,I think there is no point to distrust him. Rnj is too good at heart but that does not mean he is dumb. I know such a person who is good at heart and very successful in life but failed to choose a trustworthy friend for himself, and have no best friends. Such people exist in the world. They easily trust people. May be Rnj is like that, he is not bad ao he cant think bad about others. Beautiful written about the character Bertie.

Ps -I hope you watch the video of G slapping Advesh Looks like a nice scene. Abhiram did well I guess. Everyone clapped for him

@aan-rish

Thank you

It is not that I understand him best...just that i try harder because I really want to 😊

Haven't watched the BTS..it spoils the epi for me...prefer not to...

Avdesh is doing the psycho thing quite well...his eyes have a certain madness about them...which lends itself well to the character...

Ranaji just wants to believe in the goodness of everyone.
The experience in war is definitely a reason for that too.
He is not harsh by nature, only if someone pushes him to become that way. So he is also very black/white

But really if CV is smart, the villains can learn something from Ranaji! Im tired of villains being used just to stay bad forever, and keep hurting Ranaji.

That is why I said he believes in the goodness of humanity at large...!

It takes a child to have such faith...I guess he is still one at heart!

RNJ's character makes me always wonder can nice guys come first?

His inane quality is to be nice and only when pushed too far he acts harsh.

In real life too, it's a fine line between stupidity and trusting. Poor RNJ is pushed off the tight rope walk for twists.

I've no issues in RNj bringing Av home too. It's a sign of your strength to invite erstwhile enemies to your lair, but there is no excuse for gambling under the influence of alcohol. He is proved to be an unfit ruler. with the latest spoilers, another meltdown on the way.

This riches to, on the street track could've been done differently too.

Even Avdesh could have been brought into the palace by other means...

It now looks like the duel was wholly for the purpose of establishing Avdesh as a decent chap in RNJ's eyes..how preposterous is that..!

Yes, he had no business gambling under the influence of alcohol...but like you said, RNJ is pushed off the tight rope for twists..

He was, he is and he will be...that is to be the story of ETR2!

I have another perspective to his reckless actions. No human is perfect, and this maybe his character flaw.
Its his manly pride, poking its head. He does not heed advice from his mom or his wife, unless it comes with proofs. With BRM, it was blindtrust from chidhood, manipulated ofcourse, and now with Avdesh, Its his misplaced trust that he is a Yodha like him and will be fair like him. Fascination with the devil himself and it will prove costly.
He has made the judgement call that Avdesh is different, he has to be right.
He feels Avdesh is a perfect opponent for him to prove his mettle. His wife has doubts on his capability of winning, little does he realise the reason behind her fear is the opponents unscrupulous tactics. Rana is challenged and he needs to win at any cost.
Didnt he say, the sword fight was to win back his wives trust.
So far Rana has been winning, he's tasted blood, he is confident he is gonna win the dice game too,he has been pulled deep into the quagmire, there is no getting out till he loses everything, but his principles and his righteousness, his goodness, his inherent qualities, the Indravadhan that G knows and loves and respects,
Avdesh can never take that away from Ranaji and can never qualify to compete at the same level as him.
Rana might make gross mistakes, but his character would shine even through all that and G will always with her resilience and strength, keep him grounded and emerge a winner, only he needs to not give up.
