As an adult, when i had to cook for survival, i tried to make that okra curry. I only knew it looked reddish, smelt great and had oil and lot of green leaves floating on top and tasted heavenly.
I had vague idea about the ingredients, had no idea about their proportions and when & how they needed to be added. As i started cooking , the curry's colour wasn't red enough, i kept adding red chill powder and got the colour. After much experiments, it looked like Mom's curry, but smelt different. And when I ate it, i threw up, my stomach went up in flames and I had to rush to the hospital and was diagnosed with food poisoning, much to my embarrassment.
I later learnt from Mom, that red colour doesn't come only from red chili powder and i needed to use tomato, lot of it and if i wanted , i could add some tamarind. She told me one thing about cooking i'll always remember,"balance". Everything has to be in balance and all the ingredients should be added at the right time and in right proportion.Only then, they'll all blend well and become a fabulous curry.
As I watch the spoilers of Gayathri's death/.fake death soon after Fake Sulu's exit, for some reason I'm reminded of the horrible curry i cooked that was so spicy that , it made me sick.🤢
P.S- I'm very well.
P.S- Guys, this is something that happened years ago. I've since survived many more experiments in the kitchen and pride myself as a good cook now.😆
