Lakshyaraj: Why the outrage?

Hi everyone, first post in this forum. I'm mostly a silent reader.

While the track of exposing the truth of Badi Rani Ma is extremely important in the scheme of things, I wish they gave a little more importance and time to Swarnalekha's track.
In last night's episode (November 19), they showed Lakshyaraj jumping at and slapping Cheetah. They showed that he was enraged because Cheetah was eyeing Swarnalekha in an improper manner. A couple of things about this small moment:

1. Lakshyaraj has the same feelings for Swarnalekha as he has when he sees a door. Then why the outrage?
2. A few days ago, Lakshyaraj kept this same wife (for whom he is beating up a man he is attracted to) locked in a box. She was tortured by him in the most inhuman and merciless manner. Then why the outrage?
3. I thought he was in the know about how his parents are going to get the waaris they so desperately need. Then why the outrage? Is he jealous to note that the latest object of his affection has no feelings for him? Or is he genuinely feeling protective of Swarna?

The answers to these questions can seem obvious in the light of the rajmahal ki maan maryada and all of that, but they can add several layers and shades to the equation the two share. Somehow, Lakshyaraj's character, in particular, I feel, is being shortchanged. They don't focus enough on developing his character. Depending upon the situation, he is either a blackhearted villain and murderer or a victim of his father's thrashings. Nothing in between. If they choose to develop it, then the Swarna-Lakshyaraj track (while retaining their stalemate) has immense potential and value.

Thanks for reading!

Hey,

I believe he was upset at the fact that Cheetah preferred a female over him. Its evident that Lakshyaraj wanted Cheetah for himself. The sheer naughtiness in his eyes when Cheetah was shirtless to when he comes to the door explains it all. #LOL

I prefer Swarna's track over BRM's to be honest.

Irrespective of his orientation or his own treatment of Swarna, Lakshraj considers her some kind of a possession of his..when he ill treated her in their bedroom, he was being contemptuous of her needs...he was not wired to fulfill them and he could not have a legitimate relationship that allowed him to seek appeasement...he was angry with Swarna for expecting what he could never have as her right...I think it was a mix of a lot of things - anger, hate, contempt, self-hate, resentment and so on..
Although, what did he hope to gain by keeping her locked up? Maybe he wanted her under lock and key so she never gave out his secret to the world...and he probably thought his parents would support him on that...he never imagined that they would want him to be the figure head father to the progeny of another man..!

Not only was his orientation, his desires and his needs dismissed, he was asked to continue playing a charade all his life...his father cared two hoots about what his son's needs were or what he wanted...at that point, he wanted his son to stand guard while another man attempted to impregnate his wife...a man that Lakshraj had wanted for himself..

In choosing Swarna, Cheetah had rejected Lakshraj and his orientation and humiliatingly so...

Possibly, there is also the dog in the manger attitude...he does not want Swarna but he does not want her to be with anyone else..nor can he accept any other man wanting her...

A very layered character, Lakshraj certainly has more scope..if handled sensitively and with care, the track has huge potential..!

@bold: Same here! Prefer their track to this hallucination, skeleton, mask and murder track. Although the murder-for-power bit could have been used in a better, more real manner, I guess TRPs rule.

While it's clear that Lakshyaraj wanted Cheetah for himself, in his moment of rage, he tells his father that Cheetah ne kitni gandi nazar daali rajkumari Swarna pe. That was the bit that really caught me..

Thanks for reading and responding :-)

This scene was well done and well enacted. It was perhaps the only time we got a glimpse of his inner turmoil at its peak.

Although, what did he hope to gain by keeping her locked up? Maybe he wanted her under lock and key so she never gave out his secret to the world...and he probably thought his parents would support him on that...he never imagined that they would want him to be the figure head father to the progeny of another man..! About keeping her lock and key, I wonder whether it was some shock element for the viewers. Unfortunately, we know so little about Lakshyaraj that we cannot judge whether this behaviour was in keeping with his basic character or not. He murdered Saroj despite loving him deeply because he felt it was essential. Thereafter, he grieved him too. But torture? Not sure of that.

I sincerely hope they don't gloss over this moment! There is great scope for drama here (not in the sense of melodrama but actually propelling the story forward)

So well written! Points I had thought of too, but could not articulate as nicely. Thanks for reading and responding :-)

On another note, I recently got to know that math whiz Shakuntala Devi was married to a gay man. At first, she was very bitter about it, but subsequently wanted to understand it more closely. She's even written a book about it, The World of Homosexuals, which went unnoticed when published, but which could be considered path breaking simply because it was among the earliest studies on the subject.

Just thought about this in the context of Swarnalekha being married to a gay man.

Some interesting and valid points here. He perhaps has no ambition to rule, but is being pressured by his parents. His character really needs to be fleshed out a bit more.

@bold: This is the part I am not sure about. But lets wait and watch what the CVs show us!
