This NL will be every other week. Us members of the NL team are very busy, therefore we would rather you have a good NL every other week, rather than a sloppy NL every week.

Along with that, we may not have the same articles every week. Some articles will be there every week, but then there will be other articles that appear one week, that aren't there the next week.

However, despite these changes, we are here to enlighten and entertain you about the happenings in our favourite show EK THA RAJA EK THI RANI.
So do leave your thoughts and comments, and appreciate the hard work that goes into creating this wonderful newsletter.

This week starts with Rana being confused over the return of his first wife Sulakshana. He is unconvinced that Sulakshana is back from death. But he is confused since he sees the similarity. In this confusion he forgets Gayatri. But he returns to her once he remembers. He breaks her fast and together they have their meal which does not go unnoticed by Sulakshana who gets angry about her husband breaking fast of another woman. To calm her Gayatri lies that she is Ranaji's friend's wife who is here since her husband is out of Ameerkot on some job. Sulakshana gets angry on her which upsets RAnaji but he stays silent. Badi Rani is all support to Sulakshana and is hell bent on sending Gayatri out of Rajmahal.

But Ranaji is not ready to leave her yet. So on Badi Rani's idea he plans a picnic on which he takes Gayatri along. There Gayatri gives him an ultimatum to decide whom he wants in his life, his first love or present wife. This puts Ranaji in dilemma. But he decides in favor of Gayatri and decides to tell the truth to Sulakshana. But when he does that the Dressed in Black woman creates a scene in a way to make Ranaji believe that Sulakshana has tried to take her life on knowing about his second marriage. Among all this Sulakshana is made Rani of Ameerkot which brings down Gayatri which Ranaji could not take. Upset Gayatri ties to leave Rajmahal but Ranaji stops her putting his life in front of her.

Gayatri's love for Ranaji makes her stay. Among all this chaos, Suvarnalekha escapes Lakshraj and meets Lakhan and asks him to save her only to get to know all the plans of Kunwar and Kunwar Rani to get an heir to their family through Lakhan! This breaks her completely.

On the other hand it is revealed that the woman Dressed in Black is none other than Badi Rani herself and the one who is introduced as Sulakshana is some Gypsy named Jhumki who is masked as Sulakshana by Badi Rani to throw Gayatri out of Rajmahal.

Though this week was filled with Drama and Drama alone.. THere was one scene that became special. It is none other than Ranaji taking a stand for Gayatri.

He is discouraged to do so in many circumstances. But at least to himself and Gayatri he takes a stand. He goes to Sulakshana and tells her that though she will remain his first love, Gayatri is his present now and he does not wish to change it. He does not even falter seeing the little suicide Drama. His heart is fixed that his wife and present love is Gayatri and Gayatri alone and even Sulakshana cannot take her place now. This scene stood out among many fillers and dramas and conspiracies!

This week has been super eventful with the emergence of new and old characters and revelations of hidden identities and motives.

The arrival of "Sulakshana" has undoubtedly created a major hurdle in Ranaji and Gayatri's relationship. However, what I hated the most was Gayatri proclaiming herself to be Ranaj's friend's wife. Gayatri is a woman who had held so many aspirations in being called as Ranaji's wife rather than be titled as a Queen. But now that Ranaji had wholeheartedly accepted her as a wife, Gayatri not only lost the right to be called a Queen of Ameerkot but has also (in the public's perspective), lost the right to be called as Ranaji's wife. It is a mere statement of how Gayatri is not yet ready to take upon the mantle of being both a wife and a Queen. She can only do one at a time until she has successfully passed the necessary trials and tribulations.

The negative factor is the whole return of "Sulakshana". The entire wearing a mask, and pretending to be a dead woman, just does not sit well with me. There is something really off putting about it and I am simply not interested in this track nor as to how it will proceed. Same thing with Badi Rani Maa's revelation of being the woman in black. Many people had already predicted it and frankly speaking, if a woman of her stature is to stoop to such cheap tactics to gain what she wants... again, I'm simply not invested into her. It reveals that she has no merit of her own and neither does she hold any real power if she has to lurk about in the dark, use disguises, hire people and deceive her loved ones. Plus the actress who is hired to be Sulakshana is horrendous. Her high pitched voice, I-don't-care attitude (which is done in an OTT manner), and excitement over receiving money or being crowned the Queen... it's all atrocious. She needs to dial it down. A lot.

The only saving grace (for me at least) this week has been Swarna and her track with Lakhan. Their initial meeting and interaction has created so much interest and let's be honest, there is a lot of chemistry there. Swarna as of right now, is being imprisoned by her in-laws and her husband and is being forced to commit adultery. This whole aspect of a woman's imprisonment, lack of individual rights and freedoms (regardless of status, age, authority, class etc.) is a crucial juxtaposition of what Lakhan supposedly is - a freedom fighter. If he is fighting for freedom, then who is fighting for? Yes, we all know for India's independence from the British rule, but is he fighting for the nation as a collective or will his mission become something personal if he starts to recognize the atrocities and torture that Swarna is having to face? Will he begin to see the struggles on an individual level and begin to see how despite being from royalty, not everything is easy and simple as it seems? Rather, things become even more convoluted and blurry when it comes to politics; especially ones that involve high stakes.

Swara and Lakhan's track is something that I look most forward to more than what is supposed to be the main plot. Badi Rani Maa wanting to gain the throne by using "Sulakshana" is something that I am just not interested in. I genuinely wish that Sulakshana's character was used in a much better sense rather than maligning her character and tarnishing whatever peaceful and happy memories that Ranaji may have associated with her.
