The story of 'Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani' is a love story set in 1945 between a King and a commoner's daughter, who then goes on to become his queen. Drashti Dhami plays the role of Gayatri daughter of a rich money lender. While she is considered an insignificant part of her own family, Rana Indravadhan Singh Deo (Siddhant Karnick) decides to marry her for political gains. Initially he is unable to give her the position of his wife as he is still in love with his first wife, who died while he was away at waging wars in Wold War 2. The story revolves around how he falls in love with Gayatri and how she helps him become the most loved couple of the kingdom. To showcase a realistic view of the 1940s, the makers have shot the show across various locations in Rajasthan as well as setting up an expensive set on the outskirts of Mumbai. The 'big budget' show will also feature polo matches, imperial balls, vintage cars and expensive costumes and jewellery.
