Zee TV new show Ek Tha Raja, Ek Thi Rani starring Drashti Dhami and Siddhant Karnick has not opened very well, after a first day high of 2.2, it went down to 1.7 TVR in the first week average and has further dipped to 1.5 in week two. However producer Nilanjana Purkayasstha, did not seem too perturbed, " I am satisfied with these numbers, you need to take into account that we are up against big shows like Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai (Star Plus) and Swargani (Colors) at the super prime time 9.30 pm slot. Also off late Zee has never opened big, except for Jamai Raja.
I am confident in the coming weeks as the story is quite gripping and interesting, things will surely perk up. Anyway it is too early to make a call ideally a show should be given 8-12 weeks to stabilize. We have a great show on hand; a fictional period drama on the pre partition era has not been tried before on desi TV. A drop or rise of 0.2 is not really a matter of concern/happiness as it happens anyway, we will be elated / scared if the difference is up to 0.4/0.5."
Lead actor Siddhant Karnick says, "Never understanding the TRP funda, I just do my job and leave these technical matters to more knowledgeable people. Personally speaking, I don't feel that TRP really represents the popularity or otherwise of a show. Certain shows are popular in particular areas which are not properly picked up by the ratings. A large number of people also prefer to watch their favourite shows online at their convenience or check out the repeats on the tube, these again are not picked up by ratings. Having said that I do agree that advertisers use TRP as a basis to buy commercial air time on channel ,so they are very important."
