I am really really really liking the show as of now. I pray to almighty that the show doesn't lose its essence and ends in its own stipulated time. Amen!
Usually, I am skeptic about royal stories on Indian television. Some of them had been hilariously illogical while some have murdered history in the name of entertainment but Ek tha Raja.. is such a breath of fresh air. Firstly, unlike most of the shows it aims not to tell us a story which is larger than life but hits at the hypocrisy of such elite families. It ironically shows the difference between a rich and a royal man. The king is a king of kingdom but has no money. The rich man has no kingdom but is richer than the king of the kingdom . Such a tragic state of affaiirs.
Secondly, it would have been rather saddening thing to watch a royal family in the contemporary world. When a self proclaimed Rajmata loiters around a mansion in the year 2015 I think its downright pathetic . We live in democracy, don't we ? This show therefore takes us years before democracy was introduced in India. So, the dynasty thing looks believable in the story line. The makers have taken ample of pain in creating the aura of those days. Despite of having a good looking herione, they dress her like an ordinary woman of that time and interestingly the herione looks stunningly beautiful. Admirable .
Thirdly, while child marriage was rampant in those days, the story explains why the female lead is still unmarried and how the King is a widower. Not only this, both the protagonist seems to have similiar pain in life with different ways to bear it. The girl is cheerful unlike the King. They have different outlook about dreams. The girl finds solace in dreams. For the King, dreams makes no sense at all.
Fourthly, choice of actors is awesome. Drashti Dhami has improved a lot as Gayatri. I cannot believe she is the same Madhubala. The spark of her eyes when she talks about Rana is simply adorable. Anita Raj comeback is also good. She does have the panache of a Rajmata. The male lead can improve a lot in his character and I hope to see more of him.
Overall, Ek tha Raja is a good show. So far so good.
P.S: The only thing I foound extremely unbearable in this show is Anita Raj's way of talking about herself as Rajmata. Rajmata sochti hai, Rajmata chahti hai. I know the idea is to show her arrogance as a royal woman but seriously she can say' Hum' instead.
