Chapter 2

"Sir, this is Kalpana Kapoor who didn't show up for three months." Hearing this, "Hm," the only word came out from his mouth while Kalpana just lowered her head in shame. Looking at Kalpana, Ragahv said, "I am glad you liked the music. Hope to see you in the class regularly." Kalpana nodded her head. She was still standing with her head down.

Ragahv: Have a seat.

Looking at other students, Ragahv said, "So, you already know the basics. Now I want all of you try to learn how to play this music." Then he distributed notes to all the students.

Ragahv: do you have any questions regarding this?

"Yes sir," one of the students said. Then he started answering questions. While answering questions, he noticed that Kalpana was just flipping through the pages he just distributed. Once he finished answering all the students, he grabbed some old notes and directly went to Kalpana. Putting the notes Kalpana was trying to read aside, he said, "Ms. Kapoor, don't bother with it for now." Handing over old notes to her, he added, "Read these first as you have missed so many classes. Let me know if you have any problem understanding. If I am not around, get help from other students."

Kalpana: Thank you and I am sorry.

After thinking he said, "I will accept your apology if you correct yourself." Saying so he left from there with a smile on his face. After he left, Kalpana heard whispering from students, "Strange! Kalpana missed so many classes but sir didn't scold her rather he is helping her." "Have you ever seen any of us get scolded by him? No right?" "No." "This is how he is. He believes without scaring us he would be able to teach students more friendly. Hearing them Kalpana smiled.

After the class when Ragahv was all ready to leave for the day, Kalpana stopped him saying, "Sir, I know I am way behind. I will try to cover. If I have any problem to understand would you mind if I go to your house?" hearing her Ragahv smiled and said, "I am glad that you are taking it seriously."

Kalpana: So I can come to your house right?

Raghav: yes, you can.

Kalpana: thank you. I will come over the weekend.

Raghav: see you then.

Then he left from there.

Kalpana started feeling more interested in music. She never felt this much interest in anything in her life. But her parents always wanted her to learn music, dancing, arts when she was kid. Finally when i will learn how to play the piano, how will I feel, she thought excited.

Four days later

On weekend

Kapoor's house

Everyone in the kapoors family were having breakfast. Sahil and Nitu were doing official talk while eating. On the other hand, Kalpana was just eating quietly. After eating a little Kalpana got off from her chair.

Nitu: Kalpana, finish your breakfast.

Kalpana: I don't feel like eating anymore.

Saying so she left from there. she grabbed all the music notes in her bag and was about to leave the house but Sahil stopped her saying, "Kalpana, where are you going?"

Kalpana: I have missed so many music classes. I am way behind. I am trying hard to cover. I already spoke to my music teacher. He agreed to help me over the weekend. So I am going to his house now.

Sahil: Why do you need to go to his house? He can come to give you tuition here. I am ready to pay him double.

Kalpana: music is not his profession. He is doing it because he loves music. He has other things to take care of.

Nitu: Ok, go but come home early as we will have guests coming from USA.

Kalpana: Hm

Nitu: Take the driver with you.

While going out, the driver said, "Kalpana mam, come, let me drop you off."

Kalpana: No, I can manage.

Driver: if sir and madam get to know, they will get upset.

Kalpana: I don't know when I will be able to finish. I don't want you to wait for me. You stay here. Dad said we will have guest today from USA. They may need you.

Then Kalpana left from there taking a taxi.

Raghav's house

Seeing Kalpana in front of the door, a smile appeared on Ramu kaka's face.

Ramu: good to see you beta?

KAlpana: good to see you kaka?

Kalpana: Kaka, were is Ragahv sir?

Ramu: he left early in the morning as he had to attend an important meeting. Do you need him?

Kalpana: actually, sir promised me that he will help me regarding music class.

Ramu: you go to the same school where he teaches music?

Kalpana: yes. I just got to know that he is our teacher.

Ramu: how come he didn't tell me? Anyway don't worry if says he will help you then he will definitely do it.

Kalpana: did he tell you when he will come back.

Ramu: No beta. Let me call him.

Saying so he dialed Ragahv's number but his phone was switched off.

Ramu: He must be in a meeting.

Kalpana: no problem. Let me wait for him as I have nothing to do at home.

Ramu: Are you sure.

Kalpana: hm

Ramu: Ok. You wait here. Let me make lunch for all of us.

Another three hours passed but Ragahv still didn't come. Ramu tried to call him but Kalpana stopped him saying, "He must be in the meeting. Don't bother him. I can wait until he comes." In the meantime Ragahv entered into the house. Seeing Kalpana there, "oh, I am really sorry. I totally forgot about your coming."

Kalpana: It's ok.

Ramu: No, it is not ok.

Looking at Raghav, Ramu said, "Do you know she been waiting for you since four hours." Hearing this Raghav felt sorry. "I am really sorry again," saying so he took out a business card from his wallet and handed over to Kalpana.

Ragahv: take this. Next time before you come here, call me.

Kalpana: Thank you.

Ragahv: you guys already had lunch?

Ramu: Not yet. We were waiting for you.

Ragahv: give me two more minutes. Let me freshen up then we will eat together.

After lunch Raghav helped Kalpana wherever she had problem understanding. Ragahv found out that Kalpana was a quick learner and he hoped she would be able to cover everything in a month. Kalpana also liked the way Ragahv explained. She wished her all the teacher would be same as Ragahv.

In the evening once Kalpana reached home, Nitu scolded her saying, "Why did you take so long? Didn't I tell you to come early as we will have guests today?"

Kalpana: Guest already left?

Nitu: how long they will wait for you? I don't know when you will become a responsible daughter. I really feel bad for Karan. He came here especially for you. He flew over to delhi today for a month.

Kalpana: Karan?

Nitu: don't tell me that you don't know who is Karan?

Kalpana: Mom, I really don't know which Karan you are talking about?

Looking at Sahil, Nitu said, "Did you hear your daughter? The person she is going to marry in the future, she forgot him."

Kalpana: marry?

Sahil: yes. When you two were small, Karan's parents and we have decided when you will grow up we will get you two married. Now did you recognize Karan?

Kalpana: Mehta uncle's son.

Sahil: yes. When you will turn 18 we have decided that we will get you engaged.

Kalpana: Dad, I am only 17. How can you fix all this now?

Sahil: As I said you will only do your sagai but after you come out from the college you will get married. At that time you will be 22 and Karan 26. Perfect age to get married.

Arguing with her parents was nothing but wasting of time, with this thought, Kalpana left the room by almost slamming the door.

Sahil: Is there any boy in Kalpana's life?

Nitu: So far no.

Sahil: When Karan will come back from Delhi, let Kalpana go with Karan out everyday. This is how she will be more open with Karan. This girl never appreciated our likes. You never know, one day she will bring someone far from our society and tell us that she will marry him. I don't know how much she will make us suffer.

Three weeks later

In the music class

"Ms. Kapoor, I am really very happy that in a month you already made up. From now on you can start working on something practical," Ragahv said. Hearing this Kalpana was so excited. She couldn't wait anymore. Other classmates were also jealous as Kalpana was getting more attention from Ragahv. When Ragahv was going out of the class he heard one of the students saying, "No matter how much she is doing good in music but she is having difficulties with other subjects." "she will definitely fail this time too." "Last time when she failed her parents scolded her a lot." "I know, I remembered, how much she was upset."

Ragahv's house

It was Sunday evening. Seeing Kalpana at his place, Ragahv asked, "Ms. Kapoor, you shouldn't be here as you have exams ahead. You need to concentrate your other subjects as well as music."

Kalpana: I know but I don't know why I cant concentrate on other subjects. When I try to read I can't understand what they are trying to say and then I lose interest.

Ragahv: So far I know you were not interested in music too. But now you like it.

Kalpana: yes it is because the way you teach, others don't.

Ramu kaka was just listening to them without uttering a word. Now he felt like to interrupt them saying, "Ragahv baba, why don't you help her the way you did with music?"

Ragahv: Kaka, how can you say that? You know how busy I am.

Ramu: Busy for what ha? Don't open my mouth again or we will have a big fight again.

Kalpana was looking at Ragahv with so much hope. "I don't want to hear any excuse. From tomorrow you will help Kalpana," Ramu said with a serious tone.

Ragahv: Ok, but tell Ms. Kapoor that she has to work very hard as she doesn't have that much time.

Ramu: I trust her. She will work very hard.

Pinching her throat she said innocently, "I promise I will."

Looking at kalpana Ragahv said, "Over the weekend you will come to my house and on weekdays you have to come to my office. My office address is there in the card I gave you." In the meantime his phone rang. Excuse me, "saying so he picked up the phone. He walked toward his room while talking over the phone. After he left Kalpana's eyes fell on a piano at the corner of the big living room. she walked toward the piano. She sat on the tool in front of the piano. She placed her notebook on the piano stand. Then tried to play the piano seeing the notes from the notebook. She was trying hard but it was not playing properly. Hearing someone playing the piano Ragahv came out from his room. he cut the call and then walked toward her. KAlpana didn't realize when he came and stood behind her as she was playing facing her back. She looked at her left side as Ragahv placed his left hand on the piano from her left side. Then right side as he placed his right hand on the piano. He leaned more toward her from her back. "This is how you need to play," saying so he started playing. He was as close as she could feel his warm breath on her bare shoulder. She couldn't concentrate on what he was playing as her heart was beating very fast due to his closeness.

Ragahv: Ms. Kapoor, you want to try now?

Kalpana: Hm

She placed her fingers on the piano but she couldn't play as her fingers were shaking. Ragahv took her hand in him and helped her placing her fingers correctly on the keyboard. Few seconds later she took her hand out and said, "It is already late. I have to go home now. My parents may worry about me," saying so she grabbed her bag and left from there leaving Ragahv confused. What happened with her all of a sudden? Other days whenever she would come she was not bothered to leave but ..., Anyway, then he let it go from his mind.

Kapoors house

Laying on her bed Kalpana was tossing and turning as her sleep was far away. Whenever she recalled that moment with Raghav in this evening, her heart started beating. Though she didn't realize but unknowingly an unknown feelings started growing in her heart for Ragahv.

The next morning

It was 10 A.M

Once her eyes opened, seeing an unknown person sitting on her bed Kalpana started screaming. The person covered her mouth to make her stop screaming. "Stop screaming," The person said. Kalpana pushed him with all her streangth. "Who are you and what are you doing in my room?" Kalpana shouted. Kalpana, how can you forget me? I am karan," the person said. "Whoever you are, just get out of my room," saying so Kalpana pushed him out and slammed the door in front of his face. After freshening up Kalpana came out of her room. seeing Karan still standing in front of her door Kalpana said annoyed, "You are still here?"

Karan: What is wrong in that If I wait for my would be wife?

Kalpana: I am not your wife yet and haven't decided to be.

Karan: you are still same Kalpana. You talk with so much attitude.

Looking at her from top to toe he said teasingly, "By the way as you grew you look so hot."

Kalpana: I am warning you, don't look at me that way.

Karan: ok, ok I am scared now.

"By the way, you didn't give me any complement as how I look," he said fixing his shirt collar.

Kalpana: same as you were before.

Karan: you meant to say monkey'?

Without any hesitation she said, "Yes,"

Karan: how can you say that Kalpana? Do you know girls die to have a glimpse of me in USA?

Kalpana: whatever but I don't.

That's why I like you so much Kalpana, Karan thought, you are different than others.

Karan: Kalpana, today I am free for whole day. Can I take you out?

Kalpana: I cant as my exams are ahead and I have to work very hard.

Nitu heard while she was passing from there. "When you started working hard for exam?" Nitu said surprised. Kalpana didn't answer.

Nitu: by the way, Karan is here only for you. You shouldn't have disappointed him.

Kalpana: but I don't feel like to go out now.

"But..." Karan stopped Nitu saying, "It's ok Aunty. Don't pressurize her. I want her to go out when she will feel like to."

Nitu: she is always like this. Don't be soft with her.

Hearing this Kalpana's eyes filled with water which was not unnoticed by Karan. Holding Kalpana's hand, Karan dragged her to the dining table. He pulled a chair for her and he sat beside her. Then he served food for Kalpana and for himself. "Can we start eating now? I am so starving." Kalpana wiped her tears and then started eating. To change the atmosphere, Karan said, "Achcha tell me, why didn't you answer any of my emails? Before I left for USA you promised me that you will communicate with me through the emails."

Kalpana: I am sorry. But I didn't feel like to chat through the email.

Karan smiled and said, "Finally, maharani said sorry to me. You know what, you owe me a lot." Hearing him she looked at him confused.

Karan: I meant to say you made me wait for so long without any communication and for that you have to work very hard to repay. You made me suffer a lot na.

Kalpana: what do you want?

Karan: for now you have to give me a big smile.

Kalpana: what?

Karan: I meant to say since I saw you either you were fighting or upsetting. Now I want to experience something different. I want to see how you look when smile.

"Karan, you are too much," saying so she started hitting his back. To save himself Karan ran from there and Kalpana also followed him behind. Kalpana reached the terrace following him. "Wait wait let me take a breath now," Saying so Karan sat on the swing. Kalpana sat beside him. Looking at Kalpana, he said, "Do you know that you have a beautiful smile?"

Kalpana: Don't try to flirt with me. I am too dangerous.

Karan: what do you do when boys try to flirt with you in your class?

Kalpana: boys already know me as fulondevi that's why they don't dare to flirt with me.

Karan smiled and said, "What did you do that boys are scared of you?"

Kalpana: I been in the same school since four years. When I was in ninth grade a boy dared to propose me. I didn't reply at that time. The next day I called him to meet me in the cafeteria in the lunch time. He thought I am also going to propose to him. But he didn't know my plan. There were lots of student's at that time in the cafeteria. He came and asked me for my answer. I slapped him hard in front of everyone. After that he not only shows me his face but he had to leave the school for forever. It was not only a lesson for him but for other students who would like me but not dared to come and propose me.

Karan was shocked hearing this. "Really Kalpana? You did this?" he said.

Karan: in one point it is good or what would happen with me?

Kalpana: Hey I am warning you again. Don't try to flirt with me.

After thinking something Kalpana got off from the swing and said, "I have to go."

Karan: Where are you going?

Kalpana: I am going to my music teacher's office.

Karan: why?

Kalpana: I am not doing well in my test that's why he told me that he will help me.

Karan: when are you coming back?

Kalpana: I don't know yet.

Before Karan could say further Kalpana left from there.

Singhania constructions

Kalpana was waiting outside of his cabin as his PA informed her that Ragahv was busy with his clients. After 30 minutes, Ragahv came out of the cabin and told her to come inside. He guided her to the couch and sat beside her.

Ragahv: Let me see your syllabus first. I need to go through your syllabus.

After checking it he said, "you have only two months left and you have to cover all of these. It means you have to work very hard."

Kalpana: I know

Ragahv: Now tell me which part you found difficulties to understand.

Showing the Economics book, she said, "I don't understand Economics at all."

Ragahv: really? Anyway, this was one of my favorite subjects.

He read first two pages and said, "before I go over the book, let me give you a brief, how does it work?" then he explained. After 45 minutes of explaining his P.A informed him that he had to attend a meeting in 5 minutes. Before he left he told his PA to order lunch for both Ragahv and Kalpana.

Ragahv: Ms. Kapoor, I want you to read few chapters in the meantime let me finish my meeting.

Kalpana: sure

After one hour

Ragahv came back to his cabin. "Did I take too long?" hearing Ragahv, Kalpana smiled and said, "No."

Ragahv: Come, lets have lunch first then we will go over.

While having lunch Kalpana said, "I am really sorry. I know I am forcing you to do this. You are busy but still you need to take out your precious time for me."

Ragahv: it's ok. Do well in the test. It will be a big reward for me as I have taken your responsibilities.

After lunch Ragahv helped her for another one and half hour. He helped her to clear all the confusion she had about the subject. After that whenever she read by herself she didn't find that many difficulties to understand.

One week passed like this. Seeing Ragahv helping Kalpana in his cabin, his office stuff's started gossiping. Though Ragahv didn't care but Kalpana felt bad for him when she heard one of his female staffs saying, "I been working with Ragahv sir since 7 years but never seen him with any woman. I thought he is a very decent person. But I was wrong. He made me disappointed doing this at this age with a young girl?" on the same day when Ragahv was explaining Kalpana, he noticed that somehow Kalpana was lost.

Ragahv: Ms. Kapoor, is everything alright?

Kalpana: Sir, I have decided that from tomorrow I will not come here.

Ragahv: may I know why?

Kalpana: I think I will be able to manage it now.

Ragahv: Are you sure?

Kalpana: hm. If I have any question I will come to your house but not here in the office.

Ragahv understood. "Come with me," saying so both came out of the cabin. Looking at his stuffs, he said, "I want every one attend a meeting right now for five minutes." He heard his stuffs saying, "What happen. All of a sudden sir called for a meeting."

Once everyone gathered in the room, Ragahv said with a serious tone, "I want everyone pay more attention on work than other stuff. Nowadays, I can see you love to make yourself more busy gossiping with others personal lives. From now on if I hear anything I will not wait to fire." Hearing him not only his office stuffs but kalpana was also shocked. She heard a female stuffs saying next to her, "What happened with sir all of a sudden? I have never seen him this strict before." Before leaving the room Ragahv told Kalpana in front of his office staffs, "See you tomorrow in my office."

On the way to her house, Kalpana was thinking about how Raghav supported her. She felt good as this was the first time someone stood up for her.
