Part 2
Life is the most unptedictible thing. It surprises you when you expect the least.
Raghav and Kalpana were blessed by all the elders present there. Both of them were ocassionally stealing glances at each other. Mehraji if you don't have any problem can we keep the engagement ceremony tomorrow. We will bring our rest of the family. Only if its not a problem. Finish, Kalpana's father was surprised at first but then he has enquired fully about the family since they are well known people. Nitali's, Kalpana's elder sister, in laws had helped them a lot in this. He readily agreed and brought euphoria in both the families.
Soon it was time for them to leave and thats when Raghav's Dadu Harivansh Singhania said "Chutki come here" "Ji Dad" "Raghav give me your phone" Raghav was confused but without uttering a word he handed over his phone. "Beta take a picture of Raghav and Kalpana together, others at home will wish to see how good they look with each other" "Mehraji if you have no problem can we take a picture of theirs together" "Sure" "Come dear and stand besides Raghav" Kalpana looked at her father for permission and he nodded.
Kalpana hesitantly started walking towards Raghav and his family but it wasn't just few steps it was a glimpse of the soon coming transitional phase in her life from being Mehra to Singhania. Kalpana's mother Shobha got emotional. "Ma you were waiting ain't you." She smiled with tear filled eyes. It was she who was on hyper active mode to get her daughter married and today when finally the rishta is fixed she already felt the loss. After Nitali's marriage Kalpana was there but now the couple will soon be all alone. "C'mon Shobha...our daughters are in the same city isn't this fortunate enough for us that they are just a lil kilometers away thats it. Now just stop crying and enjoy other wise your lil one will start crying and I can't handle both of you together" She passed am angry glare and both Nitali and Dinesh smiled.
Raghav was happy that his own family gave him a chance to stand do close to Kalpana. She was just right besides him. He so wanted to keep his hand on her shoulder or waist but knew very well going by Kalpana's nature she wouldn't like it. He was amused at his own thinking. He knows this girl only from past few hours but still he feels so connected. May she is the one his heart was searching for and today it got what he wanted since long.
Kalpana looked at Raghav and at the same time Raghav looked at her. Their eyes were having the glimpse of range of emotions going in their heart. Unknown to each few hours before and now are going to spend their rest of life together.The camera clicked and the shutter sound broke their small but deep eye lock. "Perfect...but we cannot show this to family. So Bhai...Bhabhi...please continue your staring session later on."
'BHABHI' the word as soon as slipped from Kavya's mouth brought a sudden sensation in Kalpana's body. Relations... Marriage is not just unity of two souls but it brings a while new family and n number of relations. Each one needs to be nurtured properly. Each needs personal attention. She has to prepare herself for the same. Not just her surname her life is also going to change in 360.
Finally Kavya captured a beautiful photo of theirs and now it was time to bid goodbye. Kalpana again took blessings of the elder but this time Raghav too went ahead and seek blessings from his in laws. Raghav's family was proud of him and Kalpana's parents were overwhelmed with his gesture. It meant a lot. When they went outside to escort them to their car,Kalpana went upstairs to the terrace and saw them leaving. They sat in the car and Raghav slowly opened the mirror and waved at her in a way nobody can understand but everybody did and she too waved back and blushed at the same time.
"Kalpana" Nitali screamed her name out of happiness and ran towards the terrace. Kalpana was thrilled. The feeling of being engaged was yet to sink in. She held her shoulders and twirled her out of happiness. "See I told you why to think negative, just see what happened I am so happy for you Kalpana." "Di...thank you for building my strength." "C'mon lil sister you are my darling. You know I should call Vishesh he must be waiting. He was equally nervous for you." "Di put the phone on speaker."
"Hi sweetheart... I love you...muahhh" Nitali flushed with embarrassment while Kalpana looked here and there. "Vishesh the phone is on speaker and Kalpana is right besides me." There was an uncomfortable silence for a while and breaking it Kalpana said "Hi jiju how are you doing." "Kalpana I am all good and by your voice I can visualise band baaja baraat. Congratulations!!! I am very happy for you. You deserve the best and I have heard Raghav is a very genine guy. I am glad you got the best." "Thanks jiju...I am waiting for you...jiju do you think he is right for me...I mean all this has been done on such a fast pace that I am yet to analyse my decision." "Kalpana ma,papa, mom & dad have done all the enquiry about him and his family. Don't you trust them...they will do the best for you." "I know jiju and I completely trust them but..." "Toh bas...forget everything and go with the flow. Enjoy your courtship period...time like this will never come back. Raghav is a nice guy try to understand him this understanding will become the concrete base of your relation. Don't hold yourself." "Hmmm"
The rest of the family was eagerly waiting for him. They were prepared to hear a genius excuse from their son's mouth. The six stood before them with straight face. It was an act put up by Chutki to tease her parents and elder brother and bhabhi and all followed it.
"What" asked Uncle"You again gave a super excuse to escape from this situation right!!Raghav what are you waiting for...you are big and responsible enough to get married than what's stopping you...at least tell us what kind of girl you are looking for...but stop making these excuses." His brother Madhav shook his head in disappointment. "Raghav this girl was chosen by Papa...what was so wrong with her that you said" "Yes" Madhav looked up in surprise... His wife and aunt were also very happy. But his Uncle was so busy in scolding him that he didn't realise what he said. "Wahi toh Raghav what was wrong this girl was chosen by Papa and you said Yes...haan...wait you said Yes" "Ji Kaka..." He looked at his brother and he nodded in affirmative. "Raghav" overwhelmed with emotions hr hugged him and Madhav joined in."Congratulations chote" "I am so happy beta." His chachi and bhabhi came forward to congratulate him.
All of them settled down at dining table. All of them were curious to know why Raghav said yes. On thing they knew it wasn't out of parental pressure since he is not that kind of guy but then what did he like in the girl!!! "What!!!" "Raghav tell us why did you say yes to this proposal." All curious eyes were on him. He looked at his Dadu and he was the only one smiling. A smile which said he already knows the answer. "I can sum up in one word Simplicity." All of them were amazed.
Dadu held his hand and said "I apologize on everybody's behalf." "Dadu what are you saying apology and..." "No let me continue" He huffed a lil and said "Son in our times we fashion was limited to only two types of chappals 'Sandals' and 'Heels' Shirts were also of two type 'T-shirt and Shirt' and there used to be only one type of pant. But with the passage of time the meaning of fashion has changed and its more intense now. You have given various names to the foot wears like pencil heels,pumps and..." "Wedges, stilettoes" Chutki spoke in between "Ya right...and even dresses have been named differently." Raghav and everybody were confused. "I know you all are thinking what I am trying to say. "You have studied in abroad and we all thought your mindset have adjusted according to their way of living. We believed that you want someone in your life who knows this fashion thing and can match up to your way of thinking. We were wrong and the mistake on our part was we never asked what type of girl you want in your life. We couldn't think that our son still hold on to his roots. But when you asked for two years and then six months more I observed you closely. You never mixed up with the kind of girls we have chosen for you nor you allowed them to come near to you. This is where I realised that you want simple genuine grounded girl."
"But Papa how did you meet Kalpana...I mean who told you about Kalpana" "I am associated with the same NGO where she teaches. In today's world where people don't have time for their own family this girl was earnestly teaching them. I believe a person who feels is accountable to the society is the one who knows his duty very well. I found her sensible. No doubt she is beautiful. I felt she will be perfect for Raghav. So I asked the manager to give more information about her and her family. After getting all the information I called them."
"Dadu you are the best." "I know tell me something new." They all laughed and suddenly sounds of crying caught their attention. The all moved backwards and saw the twins crying badly. "Ye lo the moment they loose attention they start crying." "Aisa nahi hai bhabhi" Raghav stood up and took the 10-months old girl in his arms while Kavya took the boy. The moments the kids captured everybody's attention they stopped crying. Raghav looked at his princess in shock and then at his bhabhi who gave him a look which said I told you. "Sorry" she laughed and the two kids also laughed. "This girl is becoming naughtier day by day" "And the credit goes to her chachu" his elder brother said.
Dinesh and Shobha busied themselves for tomorrow's preparation. They called their close relatives and were now busy in preparing for tomorrow. Kalpana came ahead to help them but they sent her upstairs with Nitali to first find a suitable dress amongst the various dresses they have purchsed for her and all the matching accessories and jewellery. As soon as they reached in her room Nitali asked "Kalpana chit mei kya hai" Kalpana's eyes widened in surprise. How come she knows that Raghav gave her a chit. "which chit are you taking about Di" she asked keeping her tone as much casual as she can. "Achha ji...piya milte hi behna se jhoot" She lowered her head and looked particularly at no where. "Jao chod diya" her eyes lit up and she hugged her tightly.
Both the girls after a good brain storming session decided that she will wear a light violet color saree with silver border and a diamond set matching to the design. After keeping aside the dress for tomorrow Nitali left the room to help her parents for the big day and also give Kalpana some time alone to digest this news and of course to talk with Raghav.
After getting the much needed space Kalpana locked the door and picked out the chit from her mobile cover. Slowly with trembling hands she opened it. She was surprised,confused amazed and almost on the verge of crying...feeling happy inside and it reflected in her moist eyes.
"You are beautiful and I mean it" Below it was a smiley with a wink and his number. She blushed and kept the chit close to her heart.
Sometimes our close family fail to understand us and end up doing things which doesn't please us. Raghav has studied in abroad and hence his family made a false assumption that he will choose someone who is fashionably sensible but they were wrong. On catching the mistake Raghav's grandfather chose someone whom he knew his grandson will agree to share his life with.
