Why is Ashish sounding apologetic about returning to the show? What's with the "I gotta" and "No comments"?

Is he trying to be in the good books of the fans or does he genuinely feel that all of it is rather ludicrous..ie, him being asked to return for a couple of episodes just before the show ends and that he has to do it as he's still under contract?
