RE: EK MUTTHI AASMAAN (EMA)
EMA promised us a journey that would highlight the realities that a kamwali bai faces in her life. The difficulties low earners face. It spoke of a promise of how one through determination and hard work can change their circumstances and achieve their dreams. Of how education is door that can enable anyone to take a step up the ladder in terms of standard of living.
EMA reeled us in at a time where other dramas were still stuck in the 90s, its concept fresh, its attitude modern. We thought, at last Zee Tv is catering to world viewership too. We got crisp scripts and situations that were plausible and did not drag. Every day we looked forward to the new adventure that Kamla, Vithal, Pakya and Kalpi would face.
Then came the much-awaited leap. We looked forward to how the revenge track would intergrate with Kamla's dream for Kalpi. It started with a bang. We had Ragav, who was bang on, intuitive, smart, eye on the ball. We had Kalpi, focused, but needing that push to strengthen herself. An indirect support that Ragav gave her, perfect after all the corporate world is cutthroat. Then we got Ragna, as fans we were ecstatic. We were looking forward to see how the creative team would balance Kamla's dream, Ragav's revenge and Ragna's love.
The serial was giving out an important message: Equality
Anyone can dream and achieve their goals through hard work and determination.
Love takes place between people and not class.
There were inane tracks, of which one is Kalpi's graduation results. Had the creative team done a little research, they would have found out that it is not just one person that marks the paper. That there is an outer body that goes through the results (unless India is different from the world). We chose to overlook, because overall EMA was great. The serial was at such a delicate phase. Then all went downhill. Suddenly our creative team was stuck in a time loop. It joined the other serials into the 90s era and has occasionally ventured into the 80s.
The journey downhill:
The marriage track done distastefully, it was tacky; it is not the EMA, we fell in love with.
Loose scripts
o Artificial flowers becoming real!
Indigestible tracks
o Who comes from the west and thinks that the way forward to get your revenge at any situation is to marry your enemy's daughter. There is a law out there that protects a spouse from spousal abuse. There are plenty of NGOs.
o Ragav is after their wealth, he is aware that should he and Pakhi divorce, she gets half his wealth, which will actually make the Kapoors wealthier than before; unless your solution is going to be, a foolish Pakhi signing a prenup without reading! The way Sahil Kapoor, an accomplished business man, who has swindled people, signs documents without reading. Who does that today?
o An educated girl, Pakhi, whose only interaction with Ragav can be counted in one hand, is in love. Tell me lust, we can believe, love... nah! What is she a twelve year old? Who gets excited at her age because a guy looked at her or spoke two words to her? A modern girl, self-involved, self-absorbed is suddenly playing sati savitri. Really? Why is she not standing up to the wrong that is done to her? Had you wanted her in this avatar, you should have moulded it into the story. She has not shown concrn for Kalpi or Kamla maa over Kalpi's broken marriage.
o Kamla maa... oh God where to begin... a character we all loved... creative team, you have shredded her character, beyond repair. If there is a true villain in this show, it is she. This is a mother, who has raised both her daughters in two extremities. Neither correct. One she neglected from childhood and the other she has over coddled. She has lacked the balance needed when raising children. For somebody who has such aspirations for her child, she is narrow minded in every other matter.
Her dialogue to Kalpi, "... I did not save when you were drowning... I wanted you to stand up for yourself... to be strong..." The child does not know how to swim, are you serious.
Is nobody proof reading the script... do the actors not understand the dialogues given to them... are the creative team and actor not recognising the damage they are doing to the characters they lovingly created and portray... in the end you are damaging the show.
Lately we the fans are not able to relate to the script or the characters... please pull up your socks.
Ragna fans have not demanded that Ragna needs to be together always... we understand that ther needs to be drama...we expected a separation, we expect Kalpi to go after her dream, but not this way... in the midst of shoddy screenplay and an 80s/ 90s track.
There is so much more, but we will stop. This letter is not with the intention to criticize every little thing, but with the intention... please wake up and smell the coffee!
We want our old EMA back.
Apologies in advance, should we have hit a nerve.
Disheartened Ragna and EMA fans
