🤗thank u so much Dee 4 the appreciation!! Actually this started off as just 1 chapter..which then became 2...eventually becoming 5!! I never ever thought that I would be asked to continue as this is my first time writing!! I like to get into a character's skin and think from that person's POV- be it reel or real life!! I have been asked to continue this story...thinking abt it...only one prob- EMA is frustrating now and thats clogging my head😆 😆

Hi guys...I know I had intended to end the SS at Chap 5...But continuing this at some of my readers' insistence...

Chapter 6

It was past 1 when I pulled into my parking slot. It had been a long and tiring day. But I knew sleep would elude me.

Mom was still asleep. The nurse was by her side flipping through the pages of a magazine.

"Did she wake up while I was gone?"

"Just once sir... to drink water. But she is not sleeping well. She has been continually tossing around and has been mumbling something. But I could not make head or tail of it."

I just nodded "It is ok. Refill the jug with water, in case she wakes up thirsty again...If you need anything, just call me"

Mom had just recollected her memories after 20 years. It won't be easy for her to calm down easily. I decided to take a shower ...I needed to wash away the tiredness. As the hot water hit my body, my body felt more relaxed. But how do I relax my mind?? I so wished just like the steam all my worries would also evaporate. Alas, life is never easy. I wanted to wipe the slate clean. But my actions had already left a mark. It will not be easy to undo everything but hopefully with time , my efforts would help me succeed in fading away those marks. Although I knew I had to set things right, I had no clue as to where to start. No, I knew where to start but how do I start...

I felt my stomach growling. I had not eaten anything since morning. I made myself a sandwich and then settled on the sofa along with a cup of coffee. I stopped after taking just a bite. Although I felt hungry, I didn't have the mood to eat further. My thoughts went to Kalpi..She wouldn't have eaten anything. So how could I sit here and eat peacefully when my love stayed hungry!!

I closed my eyes and went over the events of the previous day. Yesterday morning, I had woken up greeting the day with a smile with thoughts of starting a life with Kalpana. But by evening, Kalpi was out of the picture and I had ended up with Pakhi...

[FLASHBACK]

After having proposed to Pakhi...

"Meet me at the courthouse at quarter to 4 sharp. Don't be late ok..."

She blushed " I won't be late, Raghav"

"Ok so I think you better get going..I need to see to some things"

"Bye, Raghav!"

"Yeah..bye!!"

I remembered something as she turned away..

"Listen.."

"What happened, Raghav? It seems that you don't want to let me go!! It is just a matter of a few hours, then we can be together!!"

Just hearing those words made me cringe. "No..what I meant to say was that you come alone to the courthouse at 3.45pm. But ask your parents to reach there only by 4.30pm ok"

She was confused "But why??Why tell them a different time?"

"Umm..Pakhi..You know I am not at all comfortable in front of others. And it will take me some time to warm up to your parents. Won't it be a nice surprise for them to see us as an official couple when they come?"

In reality, I wanted to execute my plan before the Kapoors arrive. They may raise a ruckus if they smelled a rat. She accepted that explanation without any questions at all!!

"Raghav, what do you want me to wear?"

"Huh..what do you mean? Wear whatever u want"

"No Raghav... do you want to see me in sari or a lehenga..and what will you be wearing?"

"Pakhi please just wear something good...and why bother what ...Pakhi, this is just a simple affair. Wear something appropriate and that will be more than enough. As for me, a suit will do"

She stood there sulking "Raghav, what are you saying?? This is a memorable day for me...I mean for us. We should look our best. Ok, fine then I will decide what to wear and will surprise you. Frankly speaking, I already had selected some designer outfits for our marriage some days ago..."

I was feeling exasperated. Why wouldn't she stop talking?? What have I gotten myself into? I was trying hard to keep a straight face..

Regardless, she still continued..."Please Raghav wear a sherwani..for me ok...Do you want me to pick out an outfit for you too?? We can go now to my Preity aunty's boutique..She is the best in town for wedding attire.."

"No..NO..Pakhi I can manage"

"OMG!! I have lots to do...I have to get my facial done...manicure..pedicure. No time for spa...Hair..makeup...I am so excited..I have to rush...!! Love you" Blowing a kiss and she was gone..

Thank God!! Mom didn't come down during this time... I had asked her to stay upstairs saying that I was expecting some clients!! I had not told mom anything about my plan till then.. Actually, I didn't know what she would have thought of it!! Taking out my cell, I dialed my lawyer " Yes Verma, I hope there are no problems...then I will meet you at 3"

Before leaving for the courthouse, I took mom's blessings ..I had told her that the first step of vengeance was taken. But I was careful not to go in front of her weraring the sherwani...I was not sure how she would have reacted...

3 pm: I reached the courthouse...I was not supposed to be here. The auscpicious time set for my marriage with Kalpi was passing by...She would be waiting for me. But look... I am at a courthouse far from Kalpi waiting for my "bride"

Verma was already waiting for me...Everything is fine sir. When will the bride come?"

"Soon..very soon"

I was hoping she reaches on time. I had forgotten that she was not a stickler for time...But wasn't this nature of hers that had favoured me? If she had reached the party that day on time, I wouldn't have danced with Kalpi...Then Kalpi would never heard my accidental confession!! I don't think I would have ever accepted my feelings for Kalpi...

3.40 pm...Where is Pakhi?? I tried calling her on her cell..network busy!!

3.45 pm ...I wish I had told her to come a bit earlier...

3.50 pm I saw her car entering the courtyard.Finally ..just a few minutes late..She was really eager to marry me. Little did she know what really awaited her...

She was all decked up with a heavy red lehenga and ornaments. "Gosh!! What was she wearing? This was a courthouse for heaven's sake and not a wedding hall..Relax Raghav!!" She was attracting quite a few eyeballs...

Suddenly I was feeling anxious . I tried to get a handle on my churning emotions... When she came near, I forced a smile

"Raghav, how do I look?"

"Nice.."

Sporting a pouty face she said "Nice?Thats it? Don't I look beautiful?"

Immediately I thought of Kalpi...Now that's beauty...Even in the simplest of outfits and with little makeup she managed to look extraordinary..

I was broken from my thoughts "Raghav, why aren't u saying something?"

"Huh...You look beautiful...Now come on we are getting late..Shall we go?"

Verma was outside the registry room. Before entering, he gave me a silent nod signaling everything was ok. Inside, my three "hired" witnesses and the registrar was waiting...

Pakhi looked around "Oh..where is Sammy? I thought he would definitely come"..But the next moment she hit her forehead with her palm " Oh what a fool I am..Sammy would be with Kalpi right? Today is their marriage right or was it yesterday"

I clenched my fists.."So she was responsible for all the misunderstandings. And what kind of daughter is she? She considered Kamlama as her mother ...and Kalpi as her best friend..Yet she was least bothered to find out what was happening... In a way, her ignorance favoured me!!"

We signed the declaration in front of the officer following which the witnesses also did the same- after which we were asked to sign the marriage certificate book...

"Congratulations!! You are officially married now..If you want you can perform any other formalities as well"

I quickly replied "Thanks..but no other formalities"

Just then Pakhi spoke up "Uh..Raghav aren't you forgetting something? vermillion...and sacred necklace?"

I was expecting this question so had my answer prepared beforehand ..."Pakhi, I don't believe in all these things!! I have brought them along just for your sake!! For me, this signature on legal document holds more value..But I won't ask you to change your beliefs!! So please forgive me but go ahead and apply the vermillion and wear the necklace...You wouldn't want your husband to lose face in front of your parents right"

I could see the dejected look on her face...But I had vowed that I would never fulfill this wish of hers. That was only for my Kalpi...On the premise that her parents would ridicule my views, she consented "No problem Raghav..anything for you. For me being with you holds more importance"

"Pakhi, just wait outside while I proceed with the paperwork. Your parents may arrive any time now"

She flashed a smile and went to the corridor.

On her exit, my lawyer silently stepped inside and informed me "You will get the certificate within 5 minutes!!" "Thanks, Verma"

Minutes later, I had the "fake" marriage certificate in my hand. The thing looked so real that she would not suspect a thing. She didn't realize that what she had signed was not the marriage certificate book!!.

Her parents arrived after some time. They were shocked that we had proceeded with the marriage without them...

Saahil enquired "Why didn't you guys wait for us?" To which Neetu countered "Saahil, what difference does it make?? What matters is that they are married "

Saahil offered me a handshake while Neetu hugged Pakhi...I was trying to stifle a laugh when I saw them hugging. The discomfort was clearly seen on Pakhi's face!! When Neetu came upto me, I immediately said "No, its fine, Mrs. Kapoor"..."What Mrs.Kapoor?? You should call me mom..." I thought to myself "Yeah..when hell freezes over"

Saahil asked "But tell me Raghav, why all of a sudden??" Seeing my frown, he continued " I meant that everything happened so quickly...and to do court marriage weren't you required to give a 1 month notice and provide documents like the passport, pan card, voters id ..?" I casually replied "Please don't overthink...I wanted to marry Pakhi at the earliest!! I know you wanted your daughter's wedding to be a grand affair. But not to worry there is plenty of time now for celebrations. And as for the court requirements, you forgot that Pakhi was my employee; so I would have a copy of her documents well at least most of it and..." I paused for a second and continued" most importantly, money speaks for itself, doesn't it? But you already know this right?"

Saahil seemed to be convinced and even if he was not, Neetu's overenthusiasm cleared all his doubts... I had specified the 4.30pm time for Pakhi's parents because I knew the courts will be closing for the day...and Saahil will not be able to do any investigations at that time.

As the Kapoor family were exchanging niceties, I was guiltily thinking of Kalpana... I could picture her worrying for me at the mandap...I have to go to her and break the news...

[FLASHBACK ENDS]

Suddenly, I was shaken from my thoughts by a hand on my shoulder..."Hh..Kalpana!!" I opened my eyes to meet my mother's face staring at me...

Note: I wanted to get this RAKHI marriage out of my system and I definitely wanted it to be fake...Believe me, I actually went through many articles on annulment of marriage but to do it certain conditions had to be met which I could not digest. and hence the fake marriage...Please don't bash me if you have found the above scenario unbelievable!!😊 Apologies, I know the update is not up to the mark, but feeling a bit under the weather..
