Chapter 30 - Epilogue
One year later
Kalpi lounges in the back yard of Singhania mansion, Ragav's childhood home. Sipping her tea she watches Kamla maa and Neetu maa argue over the care of Pakhi. Laughing silently she recollects how the year had gone by. Pakhi had progressed tremendously, she had no choice in the matter. Poor her, she had three mothers smothering her. She had no choice but to force herself to walk away from them.
Kalpi smiles as she watches Ragav walk up to her. He bends down to give her a peck on her lips and says as he straightens up, "Did not expect to see you out here." Kalpi shrugs and says, "Felt like having some fresh air. How was your day?"
Ragav lifts Kalpi into his arms and says with a mock struggle, "you are getting too heavy for me." Laughing Kalpi admonishes him by slapping him on his arm and saying, "whose fault is it." Slowly sitting down with her on his lap, he places his hand on her huge bump, caressing it and saying, "Did she trouble you much today?" Kalpi smiles contently, places her hand on his and whispers, "No he did not trouble me."
The sit like this for some moments, lost in each other, content with being in each others arms. Silently they watch Kamla maa, Neetu maa and Pakhi. Both mothers on either side of Pakhi as they encourage her to take one more step. Ready to lend their support should she lose her balance and fall.
Sighing contently, Ragav says, "where is aai?" " I am craving something sweet so aai is making me suji halwa." Kalpi says. Sammy walks up to Kalpi and Ragav with a bouquet of roses. He calls out, "Kalpi how much longer do we have to wait for the little one." Smiling happily Kalpi says, "Not much longer, he should pop out soon." Ragav interrupts her, "You mean she." Shaking her head, Kalpi says softly, "Nope he. And he is going to be just like his father." Leaning in to kiss her hips as he trails soft kisses on her jaw line, Ragav says, "I am telling you it is a she. A little replica of you. I just know it." Sammy clears his throat aloud and says, "Gosh man. Get a room."
Laughing Kalpi looks at the flowers and says teasingly, "Yay flowers for me." Sammy blushes and says, "Nope. ask your husband to get you flowers. These are for Pakhi." With that he walks towards Pakhi. Kalpi pouts, looks at Ragav and says, "Why is it that you never blush?" Trailing kisses along her jaw, he looks into her eyes and whispers, "I was blushing last nigt", causing Kalpi to blush and hide her face into his chest. Laughing aloud, Ragav says, "Sammy is right. We need a room." Ragav watches Kamla maa, Neetu maa walk towards them with Sammy and Pakhi trailing slowly behind. Pakhi holding Samy's hand for support as she tries to walk the whole distance.
Clearing his throat, Ragav says, "Be right back." Kalpi nods, her attention on her family, calls out, "Chintu don't forget my halwa." Scowling Ragav leaves to the sound of Kalpi's laughter for she knew very well how much he disliked his pet name. A name he is now often called by now that his mother recovered her mermory. Shuddering, he thinks, "Thank God we reached a truce and now mum only calls me by that name at home."
He stops at the entrance of the house, turns around his gaze seeking his wife's. Looking at her with love as she laughingly interacts with everyone he smiles. Glances up towards the sky and says, "Thank you God for brining her into my life." He looks back at Kalpi thinking, "Thank you wife for teaching me to live and love again. For giving me the greatest joy, a mini version of you. I love you."
THE END
