Chapter 17: Ruthless

Kalpi cannot fathom what Pakhi must be going through... to find out the ugliest thing about your parents... the people you love unconditionally... Kalpi shudders internally thinking such thoughts and thanks God for her aai and baba. She tries her best to console Pakhi, she can only try to imagine the hurt Pakhi must be feeling, Kalpi thinks on sadly, but thankfully will never be able to understand it. She patiently lends her shoulder to Pakhi, for as long as she needs it.

Ragav stands silently by the entrance of the guest room, watching Kalpi taking care of Pakhi, neither girl aware of his presence... his heart swells with pride, reeling in emotions he thinks to himself, "I love her." He hears Sammy approach him, turns and heads towards Sammy, wanting to give Kalpi and Pakhi their privacy.

Sammy looks at Ragav, waits for him to come closer and says in a calm voice, "You are a b*****d... You nearly fooled me.", Ragav looks at Sammy innocently and says; "I have no idea what you are on about." Both are speaking very softly, for neither want Kalpi to overhear their conversation and with mutual agreement, they both head towards the kitchen, away from the guest room. They both know that Kalpi would be very upset with Ragav, should she realise what he had done.

With frustration in his voice Sammy says, "She has just received one blow...you should have waited." Ragav continues to look at Sammy innocently and says, "Sammy I really have no idea what you are on about." Sammy laughs harshly and says, "The Ragav Singhania, who doesn't allow just anyone to see his emotions... tonight was very expressive" Not waiting for a response, Sammy continues, "Call me a liar...if, that gesture at the terrace was not for Pakhi's benefit... you purposely showed her your love and desire for Kalpi. Don't you dare, tell me you were caught up in the moment and forgot you were in company... for God sake we were all conversing when you did that! I can believe Kalpi got caught in the moment, but never you." Ragav looks at Sammy unrepentantly and says, "I am not sorry"

Ragav sighs and justifies what he did by saying, "Kalpi is going to hesitate to tell Pakhi about the misunderstanding and about us. She will not want to hurt her anymore." Ragav continues, "I find it unacceptable that another woman should think that I love her and want to marry her."

Sammy butts in, "You promised Kalpi that you would give her the time she needs to clear things with Pakhi." "Yeah, I promised not to say anything and let Kalpi sort it out... I have kept my promise... I didn't say anything."Ragav replies. Sammy shakes his head and says, "Pray Kalpi does not realise what you did, otherwise you are in a lot of trouble." Ragav nods his head, muttering, "I know... I know"

Sammy tells Ragav that it is getting late, you drop Pakhi home as he heads off. Ragav sigh and replies, "Knowing Kalpi, Pakhi is probably going to stay over for a while", not happy about it.

Ragav is lost in thought, mentally analysing and strategising the moves he will make against the Kapoors, Kalpi sits next to him on the sofa and asks softly, "Where is Sammy?" Ragav puts his arm around her shoulder and pulls her towards him, seeking comfort from her nearness, replies, "He left; it is late." He asks, despite knowing the answer, "Pakhi?" Kalpi enjoying her snuggle, murmurs, "Asleep" From the sound of her voice, Ragav realises that Kalpi is exhausted; he repositions himself to make her comfortable... Kalpi lays her head on Ragav's lap and promptly falls asleep. He sits there, caressing her hair, content in having her close and eventually falls asleep.

Pakhi wakes up in the middle of the night; thirsty... she heads to the kitchen for some water. She stops, she sees Ragav and Kalpi asleep on the sofa and thinks to herself sadly, "I will have to convince Kamla maa that I do not love Ragav anymore... so that she can allow them to get married." Unknown to her, silent tears are running down her cheeks, so intent is she in her intentions.
