Hey guys! I'm back with another update! š This will be my last update till next week as I'll be going out of town for a week so next update will be next week after I return. So without any delay, here's presenting Chapter 18:
Chapter 18
The next morning, Kalpana woke up feeling much better than she had felt in days. She smiled brightly as the morning sun peaked through the rectangle glass windows, spreading its warmth across the room.
Kalpana sat upright against the bed as she looked around the room. She noticed a vase filled with her favourite orchids by the bed side making her smile turn into a grin as she pulled out the note from between the flowers.
Her eyes turned moist as she ran her fingers across each word.
"My heart is and always will be yours. You're truly the best thing that has ever happened to me..."
"Oh Raghav..."- Kalpana mumbled wiping away the tear which rolled down her cheek.
A soft knock distracted Kalpana as she quickly slipped the note under the pillow before looking up to see Gauri Singhania enter the room.
Gauri beamed when she saw that Kalpana was awake. She quickly made her way towards Kalpana and gave her a quick kiss on the forehead before settling down on the edge of the bed.
"How are you feeling beta?"- Gauri asked giving Kalpana's hand a gentle squeeze.
"I'm feeling much better aunty. A little sore though."- Kalpana replied truthfully.
"It's only natural after all that you have been through... But I'm glad you're alright now..."- Gauri said softly. "Where is Raghav though? I was hoping to catch him here."- Gauri questioned glancing around the room.
"I'm not sure. He wasn't around when I woke up."- Kalpana replied uncertainly. Truth be told, Kalpana had been thinking about Raghav from the time she had woken up. She silently hoped that her request to lay down with him hadn't upset him. Last thing she needed was to give Raghav another reason to not talk to her.
Noticing Kalpana's anxious look, Gauri smiled to herself. "He'll be back soon. He didn't leave you for a second when you were unconscious. I'm sure he must be nearby."-Gauri said kindly. Watching Kalpana relax, she continued. "You know Kalpi, Raghav blames himself for your situation. He told me what went down between the two of you that night. Talk to him beta... He's suffering and from what I can see, you are too. Clear the misunderstanding. I can't see the two of you like this."- Gauri said, her eyes filled with concern.
After hearing what Gauri had just said, Kalpana was unable to look Gauri in the eyes and was forced to look away. A lump formed in her throat as an unexpected wave of guilt swept over Kalpana.
"I'm not blaming you Kalpana. I just want the two of you to sort things out."-Gauri said, embracing Kalpana into a motherly hug. Kalpana dutifully nodded as she returned the hug.
"Chalo, now give me a beautiful smile."- Gauri said smiling as Kalpana pulled away. She gave Gauri her best fake smile which always failed to make her eyes twinkle. Even if Gauri did notice this, she didn't say anything as she understood the turmoil that was going on inside Kalpana.
Just then Raghav walked into the room carrying three cups of steaming hot coffee. Kalpana was glad to see him in such a joyous mood as Raghav walked up to his mother and offered her a cup of coffee before giving another one to Kalpana and taking the last one for himself.
Gauri smiled at Kalpana and gave a quick hug to Raghav before excusing herself saying that she had some work to attend to and she would visit Kalpana later at home after she was discharged.
Kalpana thought that this was the perfect opportunity to clear the air with Raghav but just as she was about speak, Raghav's phone rang and he gave Kalpana an apologetic shrug as he answered the call. Kalpana watched in silence as she heard the one-sided conversation and her curiosity grew as she heard Raghav giving the person on the other side of the line directions to her private ward.
"Yes, it's the second last room on the right when you exit the lift."-Raghav explained before saying goodbye and disconnecting the call.
"Is someone coming?"- Kalpana asked excitement clearly visible all over face.
"Yes, indeed. I have a little surprise for you."- Raghav replied with a look of amusement as he noticed Kalpana's reaction.
A moment later, there was a knock and Kalpana and Raghav were joined by two strangers. Raghav walked over and hugged them both before turning his attention back to Kalpana.
"Kalpi this is..."- Raghav began but was silenced by Kalpana's shriek.
"SAMAR RAIZADA!"- Kalpana said nearly jumping off the bed. Kalpana's reaction sent everyone into fits of laughter as Kalpana slummed back into bed, blushing furiously.
"You can call me Sammy. That's what everyone else calls me."- Sammy said chuckling and stepping forward and giving Kalpana a side hug as Kalpana hid her face in embarrassment.
Sammy was also a cricketer in the Indian National team as well as Raghav's best friend.
"And this is Sammy's fiance, Raz."- Raghav said introducing their female guest. Kalpana looked at Raz in awe as she stared at the stunningly beautiful lady standing in front of her. Sophisticatedly dressed with her brown wavy hair falling perfectly into place, she looked like someone out of a fashion magazine.
The two ladies smiled warmly at one another as Sammy made way for Raz to sit on the stool beside Kalpana.
Soon the four were at ease as the conversation flowed smoothly amongst everyone as Raghav and Sammy shared stories of their training experiences and teased one another causing the girls to giggle at their child-like behavior. But the best part for Kalpana was the fact that Raghav sat beside her the entire time with his arm protectively around her, making her chest swell in pride.
A while later Doctor Singh entered the ward. After basic examination, Kalpana was officially discharged to go back home.
Kalpana eagerly got out of the bed and freshened up with the help of Raz while Raghav and Sammy went to complete the remaining formalities. Kalpana could not have been happier to leave the hospital as she put on a fresh pair of clothing.
Raz assisted Kalpana in packing her belongings while engaging her in small talk as she didn't want to exert too much pressure on Kalpana knowing she was still recovering.
Kalpana was beginning to like Raz as she got to know her better. She had hardly made any friends since she had moved to Mumbai as all her free time had been spent with Raghav but now she was looking forward to establishing a friendship with Raz.
Raghav and Sammy returned just as Kalpana and Raz were done packing. Kalpana quickly grabbed the bouquet of orchids and slipped the note into the pocket of jeans avoiding Raghav's questioning look after which the group left the hospital premises and headed towards Sammy's car.
Raz sat in front with Sammy while Raghav and Kalpana climbed into the back.
The journey back to the apartment was a quiet one as Kalpana was still feeling too weak to engage in long conversations and spent the entire ride resting her head on Raghav's chest who gently stroked her hair and murmured occasional sweet things into her ear making Kalpana go red in the cheeks.
Reaching under the building, Raghav and Kalpana got out of the car as Sammy drove off to find a parking spot.
The duo was greeted by the security guard who informed them that the lift was under repair and they would have to take the stairs. Kalpana looked helplessly at Raghav as she knew she had no energy to climb up the stairs.
Without uttering a single word, Raghav quietly lifted Kalpana into his arms and began making his way up the stairways towards Kalpana's apartment. Kalpana looked adoringly at Raghav as she noticed the love and concern in his eyes. Remembering what Gauri aunty had told her, she mentally vowed to tell Raghav the truth the first chance she got.
Just as they reached the entrance of Kalpana's apartment, both Raghav and Kalpana were shocked to find Arjun waiting there with a bouquet of orchids in his hands...
