Chapter 2: Chose one, Chose All.
"Sammy what is wrong with Kalpi? Can you please do me a favour, please can you go and check on her? I have just got off at the airport and I don't know why there is something that isn't right. Will you please do this."
Raghav was disturbed while he waited for his baggage to arrive. The night air was gloomy and disturbing. Sammy had assured him that he was on his way to check on Kalpi. But he was restless. His jaws twitched as he tried to get all his senses to calm down. "Damn you Kalpana, pick up my phone."
AT THE CHAWL:
"Pakhi baby, I know what feelings you have for Raghav baba and I have told you time and again that until you know his feelings you should not build your fairytale dreams. And, I am quite sure that Kalpi is no way involved in this. She hates Raghav and so does Raghav baba. I have explained this to you. It's a misunderstanding" Kamla tried to calm Pakhi with her words.
Kalpi felt a searing shot of pain. Her mother was defending her, she trusted her with all her heart. Kalpi lost balance. She was right in the middle of her chawl ground. Feeling naked and exposed. She was stripped off her dignity and the pain and hurt engulfed her like never before.
"Tumhe kya lagta hai Kamla meri beti juthi bol rahi hai? Kamlaa my daughter is never wrong, she is brought up in a rich, traditional, classy family. Not like your daughter- chawl-wali." roared Neetu Kapoor as she entered the Chawl to support her daughter!
Kamlaa felt the World spin around her. Those words were like thorns. Kalpi's tears gave way and she sobbed silently as Neetu Ma'am hurled one abuse after another.
The accusations of the fellow chawl members too did not go unnoticed. They exchanged glances and looks of disgust as they muttered their resentment against her.
"Raghav yaha bahut badi gadbad ho gayi hai. Tu bas Kalpi ke chawl jaldi pahuch. You were right, Kalpi is in grave danger. Come fast Raghav"
What Sammy witnessed next was something he had never imagined. He always felt Pakhi had Kamla Bai's upbringing, but what she said next was beyond his tolerance.
**Kalpana knew what was coming her way will either break her or make her. She had to take that step NOW. She had a choice, and she knew which one she had to make.**
