@Shona
I really liked your analysis.
I do want to bring up that Raghav does save Kalpi too. He saved the chawl, he tried to guide her to pick herself up from the cheating fiasco, and he offered her a job. The road trip they saved each other the goons, the drowning, etc. They save each other. 😊
I know the confession seemed rushed to many people. But when I watch the show, Raghav seemed very aware of his feelings for Kalpi. He was trying to avoid her, be mean to her, and then of course she was his imaginary friend on occasion. He was telling himself he could put his feelings on a shelf.
It was straight out of Pride and Prejudice, Mr. Darcy. Mr. Darcy likes Liz, a woman of a lower class, he acts pretty similar to Raghav. Darcy treats Liz, the way Raghav treats Kalpi. The character feels because of his class he is supposed to conduct himself in certain way. When he proposes Liz is so shocked by the proposal, she turns him down. She didn't see it coming. But as she thinks more about him, she realizes everything she viewed as unfavorable about him was really his way. His intentions were not mean, just misinterpreted.
I feel like the story is on the same theme, Kalpi was not even thinking about Raghav. Now she is seeing him. It one of those people you never think about, but can you say no. She does not think it will work out, what is the point.
I don't think Kalpi has been deprived of love. I think her entire house including her mother revolve around her. I do see why Kalpi feels a certain way about Paakhi and her moms relationship. But her mom dreams only for Kalpi. I think Raghav and Paakhi have the need for love.
Kalpi's real problem is she is too sophisticated to spend her life being middle class, but she may not be happy in the social circles of the upper class. She is stuck in between.
