Are yaar rona to aayega hi na.
Actually in my husband's family there was no tradition of praising someone for food. If they are eating quietly and taking second helpings means they like it. I knew that they liked the kheer a lot because they all took 2nd, 3rd and 4th helpings. In fact I did not even get to taste it at all. If they had asked for more I would have had to tell them that it finished (which would not be a good thing because in India a wife has to become an Annapurna - and in reign of an Annapurna there should never be shortage of food 😉).
So, imagine yourself who always watches the first sweet cooking rasam on TV and movies all the time where the bride gets everyone's special blessings and lots of gift. Well, I cried because noone praised or blessed me and I got no gifts 😭😭😭.
I decided to change the non-praising habit of everyone in family. My father-in-law is usually the critical one about food. As soon as he starts eating he tells everyone what is wrong with the food. My mother-in-law and hubby told me if your father-in-law is eating food silently understand that the food is very tasty. So, if he was quietly eating his food I kept bugging him with questions like " Is salt too much or too less? Did I put too much chilli? Is it still raw? Has it turned cold?" till he said "No, everything is perfect. Good Food." 😆 Then he understood that if he wishes to eat food in peace and save himself from all questions, he has to tell me that food was good. Now, the entire family, even my father-in-law (who never praised anyone's food) praises when I cook because he has understood that I feel good about it. 😆😆
