Maanvi had noticed the change in Virat's behaviour when he came to Hrishikesh suddenly one fine day. Or rather night. She had noticed his nervousness and restlessness. There were quite a lot of incidents when he had to carry her. It had surprised her to hear his increased heartbeats whenever she touched him. She understood that he had started developing feelings for her, thus forcing her to avoid him. She had only considered him as a friend. And her health was also a problem that she didn't want him to find out about. But he found out soon enough along with the rest of the Vadhera family.At that point she had expected him to either get depressed or to scoot, and find a good girl for himself. A girl who didn't have a deadline to live. He surprised her by creating an entirely new option. She had to admit that he was depressed for sometime but he bounced back to his own self soon enough. He spent most of his time with her in the hospital with her, cutting jokes and often annoying the hell out of her in his usual Chep ways.
Now when she thought back she realized that she really owed him a thanks for being normal to her. He was the quickest among the Vadheras to understand that she wanted to be treated normally, followed by ther di.The extra-attention made her feel more helpless and he knew it. Virat never said anything to her that hinted that he still loved her but even she couldn't ignore the changes in him. He had become responsible, something that finally made Swamini Bua crack a smile in her direction. And she noticed how fiercely protective he was about her. He stayed with her the entire day, only leaving when Jeevika di came into the room. Sometimes she would wake up to find him staring at her with so much love that she couldn't bear to look at him anymore. The most touching and endearing thing that she noticed about him was that everytime she had to face the needle he would flinch as if it was he who was being pricked and not her.
Maanvi had thought that there was only one person in this world who loved her more that oneself. And that was her Jeevika di. Finally she had found someone else, Virat. And somewhere in between all the bitter injections and drips and chemos she realized that it was nearly impossible not to love him back. Their hearts seemed to be in sync now. She realized why he was not being truthful to her about his feelings. He didn't want her to think th at he was just like the others .He didn't want her to think that his love was "sympathy" .He was waiting for a day when she would be truly alright. She knew all these things, but still it didn't make the wait easier. Her last visit to the hospital was the best one ever. The doctor told her that she was almost free of cancer now. She was free to live. So now she was sitting on her bed, munching jalebis and thinking of ways to get Virat to confess.
Her phone vibrated showing that Virat was calling her. She picked up at the second ring.
"Hello" he said in his honey-coated voice. The rest of the conversation was a blur to her, at least until the perfect idea hit her. They were talking about her health. When he asked her how she was feeling she replied cheerfully saying that she was perfectly alright. She could hear the elation in his voice as he replied.
"That's great news Maanvi!. Maybe I should come to Hrishikesh'"He trailed of suggestively. And that was when the perfect idea hit her.
She tried hard not to let her excitement show as she said. "ya chep, that would be great. I am going to need some moral support tomorrow."
"kyun? Kya hua?" he asked. She could almost imagine him frowning in concern. He must have expected something related to her treatment.
"Well.." she said deliberately drawing out the sentences. "A boy and his family are coming to see me. Now that im alright Beeji has decided its time for me to get married!"
She could feel his breathing stop at the other end of the phone.
"I sure hope he's like Ranbir kapoor. Not for me partner.. Badi Beeji always wanted a daamad like that..but I guess I wouldn't mind." She giggled.
"Mmm" he said. She could sense his distress at the other end of the phone. She decided to end the conversation not wanting to hurt him too much. After all she loved him.
"Soo..i have to go partner. Have to go for some shopping. Have to look good tomorrow right?" she said.
"Ya" he said gritting his teeth. She cut the phone simultaneously looking at the clock. It was already 6 in the evening. He should reach here by tomorrow morning.
Perfect, she thought.
