BHAJAN & DANCE 16.9
Revenge is a dish best served cold and serve, she did.
Descending down on those who had left no stone unturned to snatch everything she had once held dear, she unleashed her wrath like an avenging Goddess and this time they had nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.
They would pay, all of them and burn in the fire of retribution. The very same fire that had fuelled her desire to live long enough only to see her enemies fall!
She watched in silence as the kingdom fell crumbling to dust and revelled in their destruction. The man who stood before her laughing like a raving lunatic would never be whole again, just the way she had existed for the last four years.
He pointed the gun to her temple with shaking fingers like a deranged man, his eyes burning with rage, angst and betrayal but she was unfazed by any of it. She had nothing to fear for she didn't have anything to lose either. But try as he might he could not bring himself to pull the trigger on her and a moment later he doubled up laughing like before that ended up in a blood curdling shriek.
She walked away leaving him to his plight knowing he was beyond any hope or prayer.
Stepping out into the cold stormy night that was alight with the celebrations of Vijayadashami, she made her way back to a place where she had not set her foot in for a long time. The place did not look any different from what she remembered but yet she didn't feel any connection with it. She was not sure if she belonged anywhere. Nonetheless she had left something of hers behind and it was about time it came back to whom it belonged. She walked silently past the ornate oak doors and past the plush living room and the flight of stairs that led to a solitary room adjacent to the corridors and all along the wall, she could see some of the most beautiful memories captured in frames. Memories that she had buried in the deepest bottomless depths of her mind were fighting their way through to see the light of the day again. No that had to wait for now for she had a more daunting task at hand. She had tread on a path of hatred and vengeance for so long that she had forgotten how it felt to feel anything else but now it was all coming back to her in bursts and it was overpowering. She wasn't sure if she could contain it anymore. Taking a deep breath she closed her eyes to calm her nerves which were doing a somersault right now and unlocked a drawer in the closet. She pulled out a piece of cloth that smelled of mildew and at first glance one would mistake it for an off white veil with splashes of red colour in abstract patterns. But the uneven texture of the smooth chiffon fabric said otherwise, speaking of a tale so tragic, cruel and perverse that would send a chill down the spine of anyone who ever heard of it. She had burned in it turning to ashes from which she rose like a phoenix. She had refused to let the fire simmer down but now was the time to let go.
Wrapping it around herself, she walked out into the balcony where dark clouds loomed in the horizon accompanied by the loud chants of the shloka for the Goddess. She raised her head up to the sky as a drop of water fell from the skies onto her eyelashes and as the shankh dhwani echoed all around the city of Kolkata, it began to rain in torrents. She pulled the veil closer around her shoulders holding onto it like it were her salvation.
Salvation from all the pent up emotions that she was finally setting free, taking the burden off her broken soul as the rain washed away the vermilion on her forehead and it cascaded down her face like tears of blood. And though she knew it would take more than a blizzard to take away the blood stains this was a start. It would fade with time and this time she would let it fade and let her soul heal. Exhaling a breath she had been holding for long she bit her bottom lip hard to keep them from trembling but she failed miserably as a sob escaped her and a while later she sunk down the floor, her body wracked with tears that she had held back till this moment. Burying her head in her palms she wept her heart out as nature wept along with her.
But this was not over. Not yet! Not till she dealt with an unfinished business that was due...
