Crucial issue but avoid stereotypes

I have often said this show is apt for these times when we have so many cases of rape, sexual harassment, molestation with females be it at home, outside or by their own relatives or teachers/bosses. Moreover our leaders make worst comments on women and rape.
As much as I like Durga fighting for justice. I hope this show does not end up stereotyping women and confirming that they are vulnerable everywhere.

Nitya went out to work. She got harassed at that club. Now this girl wanted to support her mother after father's death. Did she have nothing else to do except turn to Ganguly for help and agree to his ludicrous proposal? 😲 Don't tell me giving sexual favours and then getting promotions, marks are only recourse left for females from poor families to support themselves!

Otherwise stereotypes of girl getting attacked after crossing Laxman rekha of home or making it in life by offering sexual favours will be reinforced.😲

While I appreciate men being equal partners in getting justice for rape victim I do not like to see Durga getting to accomplish her mission only thanks to Dr. Dayal's or Dev's support.

The show is moving on a tightrope. They have to balance it all and make sure they do not end up reinforcing stereotypes in very process of deconstructing them.

So far. Good.

I think that men and women both have to work hand in hand to battle the issues of gender inequality...and that is what they are showing...

You are right that this show has raised the issue of Rape when all over it seems to be happening more and more.

I agree with you that showing Nandini accepting meekly Ganguly's advances to pay off her debt is sending a wrong message to women to take the easy way out and label it as "Majboori". Her accepting her college marks to get her degree was for what?

Durga is going after a whole bunch of people for this injustice done to her family and in that I can understand she will need assistance from others to achieve her goal.

And Durga seems to set the plan herself and gets others to help her put it in action.

The show is treading on thin ice and I agree with you on that they will have to be careful and still reach the goal of setting all the wrongs that were done to Durga and her sister and her parents and making all the culprits pay for their criminal behaviour.

I have taken Nandini's case in a different way. Nandini's case is a stark reality that exists. We cannot close eye towards it. Girls from poor families are exploited as there is no one to ask justice for them. It is not that every girl faces it , but girls having no resources are subjected to such harassment. It needs to be shown that both Ganguly and Nandini are wrong. A girl need not do sexual favours as it is the only way. Now coming to Sagarika. She was doing a street play against violence for woman. But when she saw her father with nandini she went after Nandini , not her father. I mean her mind didnt want to accept her father is wrong.
That is what most of us do. We talk a lot about justice and all outside the house. But when we are confronted by the same by our near and dear ones we want to hush it up. Sagarika's character is a reflection of that. How a bold girl reacts when the truth of her father stares at her.
Same was the case with Dev from Durga's perspective. When it came to family instead of supporting his friend he decided to stick with his family. So friendship went for a toss in front of family ties. Though more or less I am sure Dev didnt send that email still Dev is at fault for not being there for Nithya in her hour of need. So I am waiting to see how there are gonna sort it out or in other words gonna show Dev's redemption.
But so far as I am fine with it.

I agree with you but that girl need not have accepted the offer. She should have refused. You can do any job, give tuitions etc., but saying Yes to this is not the only option.

Already in real life people say girls get grades or promotions by doing *this*.

This girl was not an illiterate village girl who had no other idea of what to do.

In their bid to address issues they are showing almost every girl as a victim or willingly promiscuous. It can be counter productive and that is the point I was trying to make.

yaa being professional I very well know *this* aspect. That is why I said that girl also should not be shown as a victim.
She was partner to a crime and equally guilty as Ganguly. I mean it is because girls like her agree to *this* other girls like Payal who refuse *this* has to pay the price.
If they limit the punishment to Ganguly alone I am disappointed. The girls/woman who are encouraging this by believing this is the only way out are indeed emboldening a culture of Gangulys and Shauryas

That is the whole issue, there was no other option. She had no choice and it isn't that simple sometimes...saying no is the best choice but if you hvae never been in that situation, you never know how hard it is for a girl from a poor family. If you are given no other choice. You go with what you have.
Such steps are usually taken when all other avenues are exhausted. Sometimes, there is so much pressure that one gives in. She may appear wrong but there is a legal term for this. I don't know what it is but it means that someone is under so much duress that they make a decision that is forced on them so heavily that they can't say no and do what they know is wrong but are under so much duress that they do it...
Why are we blaming the victim here? As a society we always jump to blame the girl or victim. Why is that? The VC has so much power and if she did not comply, maybe she feared for her life...we don't know but in reality there is always some sort of threat involved, direct or indirect
