These tears, this heartbreak , these unexpected turn of events reminded her of that fateful day.
It was the end of school. And the students were attending The Farewell Party. It was the last time they were meeting their friends, teachers and school staff. 12 Years had gone by and everyone were teary eyed, it was like leaving home. Nostalgia took the better of the fun as everyone ended up reminiscing of the past and refreshing fond memories.
But Suman, seemed so excited. Not because she didn't feel for her school but because today she was going to confess to Shravan, her feelings. That soft little corner of her huge heart did a somersault as Shravan asked her for a dance.
"Shravan, Shravan I want to say something"
The music was playing but she was oblivious to it.
"Shh! Just enjoy this moment", he winked.
They swayed together on the beats like a wave in the sea.
After the dance, she took him away from the crowd.
"Kya hua Jo abhi baat karni hai?!", he got a bit irritated as she dragged by to the lonely poolside.
"Shravan I, Shravan...", she took a deep breath.
"Aise behave kar rahi ho jaise propose karogi mujhe", he laughed
"Haan!", she jumped
"What?!?!", he freaked.
"I love you Lambu", she confessed innocently like a small kid admits his love to toffees.
"Wait, what, but what?", he fumbled. He didn't know how to react at that moment. He was so taken aback that his thoughts mingled like entwined roots of a grapevine.
"Don't you love me?", she said horror struck.
"Suman, listen to me, see I..."
"You love me or no", she said blankly, her voice shaky with forming tears.
Shravan just gasped at that, he couldn't form words. They were friends, very close ones but love? He wasn't sure about it.
"Yes Or No.", she said, stepping back.
But Shravan couldn't say anything.
"I got your answer", she sobbed and ran away.
"Suman, Suman, wait!!", he shouted but she didn't even turn before leaving.
She immediately left for Texas the next week to pursue Medicine and they couldn't talk anyhow, hence. She cut off all her social media connections on FB, Twitter or SnapChat. She didn't want Shravan to approach her again and clarify anything.
It was late evening by the time she went for a check on him.
Conscious, he was. But he was blankly staring at the ceiling.
"Shravan, do you want to eat something?", she offered.
He nodded weakly.
The nurse brought soup and khichdi.
"Eat it", she said.
"So, what do you?"
"I'm a Lawyer", he smiled proudly.
"Ah! So you have a firm or you work for someone?"
"No I've a firm of my own."
"Who's in your family?"
"Me, Papa, Pushkar - my cousin, Chachi, Lalaji, Varun Bhaiyya, Vandy Bhabhi and... And... My mother", he sighed.
"Ohh that's great!", she cheered.
At least he considered His mother family. That was a good progress from the shock.
After a few minutes of this brisk chat, Shravan had already finished his food, well, almost
"Finish the soup Shravan", she said sternly.
"No, I'm full", he said.
"Common! Finish it!", she insisted.
"I'm full!", he stressed.
Suman picked up the spoon to feed him as he said :
"Sumo! I'm done with eating!"
Both of them were surprised at this.
"That... Umm... I'm sorry DR. Suman. I don't know how I used this for you."
"So whom did you use it for?", she asked, hope flickering.
"For my... My... No one.", he refrained from opening up.
She left the room almost immediately after it coz the tears accumulated inside could no more contain themselves from letting out loose.
