the result of his ego that he didn't warned sumo about the manhole was going on the stretcher when he saw sumo lying on the stretcher because of him.

The guilt for his doing was visible in his eyes that how much in pain he is seeing sumo lying on stretcher.

He is so guilty. He even admitted a stranger would be kind enough to warn about something like that.
