Not good.. . Come back soon and read my post I say.😃 As usual my post is a ramble. Why do you say it has to be a ramble? Why not a proper post? Well, like you all I had also gone to Shramanlicious heaven and have just returned. After having seen and experienced the wonderful delights of this heaven... you cannot speak coherently... you can only ramble. Now where do I begin? Monday's post can be divided into three sections...(even my ramble has some sense of an order. The credit for this goes to Sanfan (Rekha... she managed to find order even amongst the chaos) A big thank you to Rekha. Her thoughts are pure gemOkay, the first part is devoted to Mami-Sumo-Preeti-Daboo. Not much to say but elder sista, Sumo was here the voice of reason in making her sister understand the pitfalls of telling lies (But she is a dhakkan if ever there is one🥱). Mami, I liked (Is it an aftereffect of being in paradise yesterday? Am I seeing good everywhere? Ah! well). Mami was honest and spelled out to her daughter in bold terms not to take favours from anyone whether they are big or small favours. But, you were willing to take 6 crores cheques yourself from Shravan remember, Mami? So, she is willing to walk a mile only for her children (Hmm... she is not a bad mother...But⭐️). Strangest aspect of this first section was Daboo and his khurafati RJ (stop listening to khurafati advises... cutiepie😛). His dialogue that every boy falls in love with a girl in whom he sees an image or a replica of his mother is, to say the least, interesting. Now what did Daboo mean? There were two girls out there, not one. I shall speak of the younger sister first... did Pushkar see an image of his mother (Chachi) in Preeti? Well, if that is true then there is sure going to be fireworks in the lives of Sharman.😆 Elder sister I shall speak later on
Next section... Nirmala-Sumo, Sumo-Pushkar. Nirmala is going on a pilgrimage (Thank God😉) but first wishes to hand over a coffee table book to Shravan. So, Sumo comes in the picture. (Mother Hen, Nirmala, kindly go and meet your son.. instead of handing him books. Your son needs answers and more specifically, requires your presence. Please spare Sumo and the whole Tiwari family). Push-Sumo, interaction was funny but with nothing specific. Apart from the fact that the two Tiwari sisters share more between themselves while the brothers are secretive. And one of the Tiwari sister is dumb (Thank you Pushkar, you have outlined it correctly😉), while the other one, understands more than is required (Sumo darling, kindly do not step in between this mother-son angle. You are going to be badly bruised. But, we are going to rot in hell... have some kindness for us forum members😉😆).
Now on to the last section one which transported us directly to Shramanlicious heaven. We see first Shravan seeing his reflection in the mirror (Oh! my God.. he also like Sumo speaks to himself and that too in the mirror...cuties). Face puckered up our Mr.Lawyer is unsure about his own feelings, about the raging storm within. Okay, the storm gets a face and a voice.. Sumo calls. He instinctively smiles, why? Forum members, Meri Jaanus don't make me angry... he was thinking about her (okay he always thinks about her😳). Why was he thinking about her, you say? Damn! You all are making me very angry now. No answers for this one... understand it yourself... it is as easy as my ramble...😃
Mr. Lawyer reasons his overflowing happiness by saying she calls daily and that too fifty times. And yet, you are so happy? Qutub Minar, if someone calls us fifty times in a day.. we will transport that person not to heaven but to hell. 😆And here, you are smiling... But, she cant yet know about his happiness... in fact, he himself shouldn't know or feel this happiness. So, the snob voice asks grumpily, yes what do you want? Sumo says she wants to meet him? Happy but scared... Scared why? He would have to meet her again... and what if he doesn't like her story again? Will this time around she would know more about him? Or he would come to know more about a Shravan lost in time? Sumo wants to hand him a gift in spite of it not being Shravan's birthday or anniversary (Did you guys see the way Shravan blushed on hearing the word marriage? You didn't see it... go and watch the episode again😛). Okay, in spite of his conscious misgivings, Mr.Lawyer does want to meet her as well. He cant stay away from her. How did you manage it these last ten years? So, after lunch he agrees to meet her (scared of lunch time stories, Mr. Lawyer... Sumo caught on to it big time😉).
Sumo-Shravan meet in the garden instead of the conference room. Both with glares on, quite easy for both to hide their emotions (though Sumo was using sunglasses to protect her from heat... Minar had other issues as well). Mr.Lawyer, for a moment in which it seemed as if Time itself had stopped appreciated her beauty and in fact, he expresses these thoughts in words as well (can't control it, Lambu... We couldn't either because our eyes were transfixed on you). However, the mask was again on.. and his face bending over his pile of documents asks why she wants to give him the gift (Red, thank you for this word "mask"🤗). Sumo dilly-dallies (amazingly she was so scared of him the other day in the conference room and he was the one calling the shots... This time it's the other way round) Sumo hands him the gift and the glares are off. He is dumbfounded, grateful that she remembers how much he loved sports cars. He smiles for recreating a happy memory... one which is/was close to his heart. Okay, now go back to Daboo's khurafati dialogue. Sumo recreates a happy memory one which was and still is inextricably intertwined with the image of his mother. Few episodes back, she had again recreated a taste, a flavour of a time gone by, intrinsically associated with his mother. Both soothed him and both calmed him. Sumo is the connecting link between Shravan and his mom and yet... as Daboo mentioned in the next line of his... if she (his girlfriend) turns out to be an exact replica... God save him.😆 If Sumo is or turns out to be an exact replica of his mother...it would only mean for Shravan that his lady love shall also abandon him like his mother. Yet, during the daal incident (I know guys you don't want to hear of daal for the longest time... but bear with me😃) Shravan had said to Sumo to make the daal different. I hope you are getting the picture here.
Now, Sumo asks him to comply with the deal that they had made the other day. Again, the mask on.. but Sumo wants to leave and that too with the gift (how many of you were reminded of the scene when Shravan takes back his gift from Sumo before the reunion party? You all did... good😊). Anyways, Mr. Lawyer agrees to reveal something about his personality but, with the precondition that she should remove her glares. As he wants to see the impact of what he is saying in her eyes.
Eyes... do you want to see how your story impacts her as her fictional story swayed you? Or, you want to read your own feelings in her eyes? Or, you just want to soak yourself in her eyes? What did you mean by these lines, Shravan Malhotra? My thoughts refuse to be untangled... I am again transported back to heaven). The shayari that he speaks is simple but beautiful... the lines I quote below:
Sardi Ki Dhoop, Garmi Ki Chau
Baarish ki Pehli Boond, Ek Pyara sa Ghar
Dekh kar tumhe jaane kyun hamesha yeh khayal aata hai
Jaane tumhari har beetuki baat pe, Kyun mujhe pyaar aata hai?
These lines in fact, register in many different words what he had said the other day under the umbrella "mujhe bhi chao de do" (btw, they are again sitting under an umbrella)... all these different climes, summer, winter, rainy speak of those things when and where you find that refuge, that sanctity, that special hearth, that anchor (Red thank you😳) which can only be defined as Love. Amazingly we get to know these lines were written or mumbled years ago like the letter. The flashback and the present scenes were seamlessly shot... absolutely breathtaking.👏 Sumo on hearing his shayari laughed, almost scoffed at the idea of him being a poet. She calls it a story, as lame as the other one she recited at the restaurant. A lie... yet, Shravan smiled contentedly... he was not angry, he did not feel rejected like those ten years ago. What did his smile register?
This smile, like the poem and the setting in which it was articulated... a garden embodied an expanse, refusing to be contained in one known paradigm, confined to one season, restricted to one particular moment. It did not belong only to the past, its meaning refused to be enclosed within one climatic change... the ghar' that he spoke of is more to understood than mere four walls. It included and was a part of very nature with all its trials and tribulations. Eternal and unchanging, immutable beyond known human experience, the love flowing and yet constant. ❤️
Did Shravan see what he wanted to see in her eyes? Yes, I believe he did. He found that simple Sumo, lovable, flippant, characteristically the one who could lie, tell a tale at the drop of a hat yet could elucidate a truth hidden beyond all the known parameters of comprehension. Her tale found a story which is now rushing for an outlet... at least the journey has started. The last two lines of the poem speak out of her antics, her madness, her transparent nature which managed to simplify any of the complexities of the world to a mere joke or a smile. Her madness which he had often wanted to see, experience and smile serenely ten years before was now again felt. Her antics which constituted his very world was the order amidst the disorder. Why would he not smile happily?
Why did Sumo smile or laughed? She was stunned by what she heard and she I believe also tried to camouflage her feelings. She could only do it in the way she knew and had practiced for so long. Being Sumo like... a storyteller par excellence.😃
I will skip the Tom and Jerry scene... but, why didn't he try to help her? What stopped him? His first reaction was almost similar to what a few episodes back Sumo had said you must have been faking your injury. The jury is still out as to whether any of them had faked it (Sumo hadn't... not very sure about the lawyer). As soon as he tries to apply the medicines, the past comes rushing back... a memory he still doesn't want to acknowledge. A past when he had helped her, when she was the only one for him and he for her? A past when there was no fear about the future.. a past when yet his family in spite of the many troubles, in spite of varying seasons were still together. A past when there was no mask between him and his heart, a past when the mind and heart had not to wage a daily battle within and a past when he could be a child again. A past he feels is no longer there... its dead.. (Idiot...your shayari/letter has already made it very clear that it cannot die😉)
Sumo, the child, the innocent one has no inkling of what her tale has unleashed. The tale of love, of despair and of a heart which refuses to let go. A tale which did not require to be penned down, the notebook was empty. Well, I don't know if it was ever written (if it was where is that notebook? It also, ought to be there amongst his possessions like the crossword dictionary, keychain...), but those blank pages again screamed a love that no words could describe. It has only to be felt and seen in the eyes of one for whom these lines were meant in the first place.❤️
Lastly, Namik Paul... take a bow. Your eyes say what even words fail to do.👏 Nikita looked gorgeous yesterday and did a very good job herself. Full marks for Daboo❤️
I shall no longer continue with my ramble. Let other ramble begin...
And a big, big thank you to Rekha (Sanfan)..
Indrani..I am floored by your writing...The title has me in a daze, the eyes which wanted to see...
Shravan's and Sumo's...(J, ur interpretation is also included in that dazed state😉)
"You can close your eyes to reality but not to memories"...
A very complex man is Shravan but how simple is his love...(that's my interpretation) becos for me love is a simple emotion made complex by human beings...
"The hardest thing is to tell your mind to stop loving someone if your heart still does"
To me this episode was at times a case of MIND OVER MATTER...
Shravan's mind and heart battles...he can't not be happy when Sumo calls him...he super loves attention from her...craves it almost...has to tell himself to stop his fluttering heart.
He tries hard to look nonchalant but fails everytime she moves away from him. All his charade of acting Hoity-toity just goes out of the window. He has to ask her to stay..
The only time he succeeds is when he is not acting nonchalant but when he is deliberately putting distance between him and Sumo...in the last couple of scenes, which I will come to later.
The reason I said this man is complex but his love is simple is becos of the shayari scene...easily the one of the two wonderful scenes of today for me...it explained one facet of Shravan that was a serendipity. I must say having the juxtaposition of the younger Shravan reciting the shaiyari was a fantastic piece of screenplay and direction too...It explained to me the pure love of Shravan for Sumo. He loves her just the way she is...Though I knew this...the scene just shouted it out to me in BOLD...Shravan fell in love with the Sumo the way she was, he loves her the way she is and He will love her the way she will always be. Mad, crazy and laughter ringing thru...He loves her "betuki" baatein...that's what he fell in love with as a sixteen year old. He loves to see her happy and carefree...NAMIK absolutely aced this scene. He had a glazed look on his eyes when he recited the shayari..and when Sumo was laughing...simply marvellous. I have seen a few actors that use eyes rather expressively...this guy is reaching that top notch position very soon...
The Shayari scene..i would like to elaborate on from Sumo's perspective as well becos I guess there appear to be posts which are miffed at Sumo's behaviour. However, to my mind, what was intended to be conveyed was not her making fun of Shravan in the first place, She was not making fun of Shravan...the scene intended incredulity...She can't believe that Shravan can be poetic...so she laughs at that aspect...meaning to say.."Oh come on Shravan...Just like I pulled a fast one on u...u r pulling a fast one on me" Sumo is transparent as a person. I say this with conviction. Her character does not calculate to impress, yes she will do all sorts of Kaands which can get her in trouble. She knows Shravan loves her(thats what she has been saying all along) so ideally she should have been happy/thrilled that he is reciting poetry for her. However, when Shravan recites poetry, Sumo does not see it like that..That's the beauty of this character...She does not see Shravan like that yet. She has not known Shravan to be deeply in love with her and becoming all moony-eyed. That letter in some ways is her only byword of affirmation of his love as a sixteen year old for her. She thinks he loves her like she loves him...simply no fuss...she has fewer cobwebs, she has not realised he is surrounded by cobwebs especially regarding her, she is yet to fathom the depth of his love for her, his inhibitions, his fears and insecurities relating to her.
The last scene very subtle and open to interpretation and so I will share mine. Largely, it can be expressed as a distancing from Sumo becos of a realisation that he was getting caught in that vortex of old emotions which he has been keeping at bay. The recollection of the past just reaffirmed what his mind had been battling from the time of the dinner date. His heart had won over his mind for a while he was basking in Sumo sunshine.
An interpretation
He is complex,..everytime she moves away he will want to be close...everytime she is close, he will want to go away...becos 1) he cannot believe it to last...or 2)it confuses him
If She had not asked him to apply the ointment, he would have...but since she did...he is scared to hope for more..so he clams up. He feels at home with her when she throws attitude when she is the Sumo he knows. I feel he becomes unsure (for want of a better word) when she is vulnerable. The Khosla case...also gave him a glimpse of a vulnerable Sumo...he did not withdraw then tho but his emotions are a bit more muddled now...
This smile, like the poem and the setting in which it was articulated... a garden embodied an expanse, refusing to be contained in one known paradigm, confined to one season, restricted to one particular moment. Marvellous...Indrani..👏👏
I would not like to add anything to the paradigms that u have used to explain the setting of these scenes. It is a beautiful piece of writing from the creator and a beautiful piece of explanation from you, a viewer...Stories inspire and u writing is reflective of that..stay inspired and regale us more with your perspectives.
KUDOS TO THE EDKV TEAM...brilliant teamwork..NAMIK AND NIKITA deserve extra applause 👏👏
