The Next Day
Mami: Are Suman Beta?! Tu ab bhi taiyyar nahi hui? Beta Ladkewaalein aate hi honge!
Sumo rolled her eyes. She just wasn't prepared for marriage! God knows why, it seemed as her family were just throwing her off to anyone like a waste bundle. So many unfulfilled dreams, so much yet to do..
Her phone rang as she jerked out of these thoughts.
Shravan: Ready agent?
Sumo: Hun?!
Shravan: Aree Jo plan Maine kal explain kiya thaa woh yaad toh hai?
Sumo: Haan.. Woh.. Haan yaad hai
Shravan: Sumo... Tum itni tensed Kyun Ho? Sab theek Ho jaayega. Tum bass stress mat lo. Nahi toh phir tumhaari aankh ke neeche Bade Bade ghaddhe AA jaayenge aur phir koi bhi tumse shaadi nahi karega--.
Sumo giggled.
Sumo: Okay agent! Waise tum kab AA rahe Ho?
Shravan: Jaise hi woh log AA Jaayein, tum Ek missed call de dena. I'll leave. Abhi kuch kaam hai. Ek dhamaaka haath laga hai.
Sumo: Kya??
Shravan: Ab tum zyadaa savaal mat karo. Chalo ab ready Ho jao.
Sumo: Aye! Aye!
Her dampened face turned into a smile as she wore a pink Anarkali teamed up with silver jhumkaas and white leggings. She looked quite a princess in that look.
Soon, cars honked at the gate of Tiwaris as two ambassadors marched into the compound. Loads of gifts and thaals of shagun were unloaded.
A very thin and pale looking fellow came and shyly sat on the sofa opposite to where Sumo was standing. He looked quite elderly for Sumo. He looked down all the time and blushed hard. It was indeed difficult to tell who was the bride and who the groom.😆
Finally as the elders talked, Mr. Raghu Tripathi, mustered courage to look up and found that Sumo was ferociously staring at him. He swallowed a lump as sweat appeared on his forehead.
Cold drinks were brought in by Sumo and Preeti. Sumo personally went to serve him and oops!
With her high pencil heels she stepped right onto his soft feet.
"'Ahhh", he went.
" Kya hua Beta", the boy's mother asked with concern.
"Woh ... Woh Maa Lagta hai koi keeda tha"
He got up and moved towards the washroom.
He closed the door behind him and took deep breaths. Was she a girl or a storm?
Shooting daggers at him, stepping on him... But he liked her cute face. Howsoever she was, she was his to be bride. And nothing could stop them from getting married.
As he was about to enter the Hall, the glass window crashed and a chit came zipping into the Room.
He got curious to read it. This was his Sasuraal after all and he had the right to know about it.
He tiptoed towards the fallen chit and picked it up
It read:
Dear Sumo,
I have arranged for the full and final execution of that Tripathi. You don't worry. This marriage won't happen.
Yours Always.
The fellow felt the zameen being pulled off his feet. Were these people Gangsters?😆
He immediately rushed into the Hall and whispered the incidents into his mother's ears. They were hell annoyed by all this.
So inspite of all the pleadings and praying from the Tiwaaris, they got up and left.
Before leaving, the mother decided to leave a last taunt, for her satisfaction.
"Aur jaate jaate Ek aur baat... Apni ladki ko sambhaliyega Tiwariji. Aajkal ki choriyon ka koi bharosaa hi nahi, kab kispe inka dil AA jaaye, koi kuch nahi bol sakta. Iski shaadi ke liye shubhkaamnayein. Waise bhi binn Maa baap ki ladki ka Rishta pata nahi kaise Ghar mein, kisse hoga..."
Nanu and others just looked down while Sumo was bewildered. She didn't intend to insult her family. She just wanted to get rid of that meek looking fool. Tears welled up in her eyes.
"Uski koi zaroorat nahi hai Auntyji. Aur app Sumo ko lekar chintaa naa karein" barged in Shravan. "Hum sabko pata hai ki kaun kaisa hai. Apne hi bte ko dekh lijiye. Kya aapne humein bataaya ki uski Ek baar shaadi Hokar toot chuki hai?"
He threw some marriage certificates on their faces.
At once, their expressions changed. They were caught off guard and this was something they didn't expect.
"Ji Namastey", she said and they ran off hurriedly.
She smiled at him and he smiled back. For a few seconds they kept looking at each other. Sumo found trust and support in those eyes while Shravan's eyes carried pride as he didn't let down his best friend.
