Actually, in those times, and even much later, childrearing was mostly the domain of the mothers - the fathers would leave that to them, assuming that everything else was going smoothly. It was after they grew up some that the fathers would be more involved. But no father would, on seeing the rowdy behavior of his kids, just stand quietly in embarrassment wondering what the mother was doing - he'd step in and take control himself.

I didn't say that all modern day women talk like that - I know they don't. But the way Susheela talked to Sudama, shouting @ him, was exactly like what we see in other serials when you have an unhinged woman yelling @ everybody. In those times, it was perfectly possible that a woman would blow her top and yell @ her sons, bahus, daughters, devars and so on, but it was inconceivable that she'd yell @ her husband in that manner. That was a pathetic portrayal of Susheela's character, and it's worth remarking on since this one is a fabricated story, unlike the earlier one (except perhaps the Chakradhar parts)

Another thing they showed in Monday night's episode was Susheela sleeping on the bed w/ her 4 children, & Sudama sleeping on the ground. This was tough to digest.

Listeners showed their appreciation by offering cash, food, etc. Obviously there was no guarantee of the number of listeners or the extent of their appreciation and hence the income would be rather irregular

In today's episode, it ended w/ Sudama telling his fat son Mohan that from tomorrow, he'd teach them about Brahmin dharm and to beg for food from no more than 5 homes, and make do w/ that.

Question here - wasn't the whole idea of Rukmini supplying him w/ everything he needs so that he won't have to beg? As described above, Sudama's job was to sit in front of a house/temple & chant the vedas, wouldn't it have made more sense for him to teach his children to chant the vedas so that they are spiritually enriched??

Like Susheela's character twist, this theme of Sudama continuing to beg doesn't sound right. Yeah, his being prosperous now implies that the well being of him & his family no longer depends on the outcome of his beggary. But wasn't it also the dharam of Brahmans to not crave for more than they needed, and clearly, Sudama has all the material things he needs. So why not teach them to chant the vedas in front of temples, or similar activities, instead of teaching them to beg? Yeah, begging was something that was taught in gurukuls, but the purpose of that was to inculcate humility in the shishyas, rather than be a free source of food for people w/o a steady income.

This was the childern's day special episode. Sudama teaching his sons once again to offer food to Krishna first, then to discipline Mohan, he allowed him to do what he wanted first, then when he was hungry at night, he ate the same food, he refused to eat before. Till this every thing was ok. But Sudama wanting, to take all 4 kids to get bhiksha with him the next day is not accepted, those who have appreciated this track even they may not like. Basically the reason for asking from 5 houses was to fulfill their basic needs. A brahmin's dharma is also giving education to other, why can't he teach them Vedas, Shashtas. The knowledge is a brahmins biggest wealth. When Rukmini sent that brahmin with her letter to Krishna, he valued knowledge more then wealth. Krishna had told that brahman wealth of Gyan can never get over, but monetory wealth can get over some day. So you are wealthier then me. Even Sudama himself needs to learn to use his knowledge, in this fictitious track.

Continuing on the theme from yesterday, today they showed Sudama & his kids begging from houses. In the 4th house, the lady was surprised that they were doing this, but Sudama explained to her that they were doing a Brahmin's role of begging, and so she went in and brought some grains for them. In the 5th house, the lady called her husband to see his friend.

I'll comment on the main episode once the update is up. In the meantime, though, I'm wondering what would be achieved once Sudama makes his point to the people around him - that it's their job to beg? Essentially, won't he be setting up an example that it's okay for a Brahman to be rich, but nonetheless, he should continue to dress in rags and go from door to door? Or that it's okay for him to be in rags & go from door to door, but change back into rich clothes once he's done? That's really a bizzare message to be sending to society, and since Sudama is the most influential Brahmin in his neighborhood, other Brahmins in the place would follow his example?

In short, the Sagars don't seem to have understood the significance of what he did, and why. Once his poverty was over, he didn't have a need to beg - begging was supposed to be a source of income. Yeah, it was said to be a virtue of kings & merchants to feed Brahmins, but this was supposed to be for their own spiritual well being. I know that Dronacharya was a bad example, but did others - Vishwamitra, Vashistha, Valmiki, et al beg for their living?

Agree with you about the Sudama story. We all know 'that' SB version only. Don't know from where the Creatives got this 'new' story for DBSK. 😕 Lets just hope that they have a relevant mssg at the end of it. Th' personally I am enjoying the 'Devotion' part in Sudama's character but yes, we also need the story to be 'authentic' or at least 'around' some authentic incident.

Hey, guess what? In today's episode, a new Susheela surfaced once Sudama got home. She's more attractive than the old Susheela, & welcomed her husband. The kids are all unchanged - the 3 younger ones were still pretty dignified while eating, while Mohan remains a slob.

But the thing that struck me about this - apparently, for DBSK, Susheela is a more important character in this show than either Rukmini or Satyabhama, so that now, Krishna's only wife is Jambavati, and there are no substitutes for Priya Bhatija or Urvashi Pardeshi, but there is one for Geetu Gambhir, who plays Susheela.

I'm impressed!
