Chapter 1
It was a dark night, and Radhika sat on her bed, fidgiting with her papers and pen. "I want to write something better. Something beautiful, melodious." she said to herself, looking at the songs she had written. She sang her songs in her own tune in her mind, smiling. But somehow, she could not match it. Something was missing. Something very important. She looked outside her hostel window, in the college campus outside. It was empty. She looked up at the bright, jewelled sky, thinking what exactly was missing in her words.
Radhika loved to play with words. Writing was her life. She loved writing poems, songs and stories. Imagining and thinking made her happy. She could also, sing very well. Everyone said she had a lovely voice of singing. Radhika always felt, beautiful words made the singer love the song, which makes the song sound more melodious. The annual concert of college was near, and Radhika was to write songs which would be sung in the concert. She had tried her best, given a lot of time on writing the songs, but the problem was, she still wasn't satisfied. She just could not figure out what exactly was missing from it. Radhika sighed, as she read out her own lines to herself...
"No.. its not matching." Radhika said, sighing. Her heart said there was something wrong. Sighing again, Radhika gently put all her scribbled papers together and put them inside her bag. Lying down in her bed, she pulled the sheets closer to her. "What is it, you mysterious words, that is not in you?" she asked herself. Closing her eyes, she tried to think. She did not know when she fell asleep.

The next morning, Radhika woke up soon, and met her friends in the college canteen. "Chashni! So tell.. what magic have you created this time?" Samaira asked, eyeing the papers in Radhika's bag. Radhika rubbed her nails, as she sat down. "So Radhika.. show us your romantic romantic lines!" Neil laughed. "Neil..Sam..everyone listen to me." Radhika said, worried. "I am not being able to make it perfect!" Radhika said, putting her bag on the table. "Chashni, all your songs are perfect. Show us na!" Sam said. "But Sam, I am not happy with them. Something is missing.." Radhika pouted. "What is missing?" asked Neil. "I..don't know Neil. Something is missing!" Radhika said. "Show us the songs" Sam said, holding her hand out. Slowly, Radhika took out the papers and gave it to Sam. Sam and Neil put the papers down on the table. Everyone else passed the papers, reading the lyrics. "How is it?" Radhika asked, pouting. "Bad na?" she added. Sam gave Radhika a soft punch in the shoulder. "Bad? This is beautiful Chashni. What are you even thinking!" Sam said, putting the papers down. "Radhika, trust me, these are really beautiful. I think we should work on the tune." said Neil. "See how beautifully you have written.. Sheheron mein, Gehron mein, bas tere hi kahani likhe jay, nazron se..palkon mein.." Radhika nodded her head saying a no no. "Neil, these lines they are not sounding good when being sung. I tried also, really." Radhika said, holding her throat in a God promise style like kids. Sam sat quietly hearing Neil read the lines.
"Zindagi ki manzil hai anjaan,
Bol jana hai kis disha mein..
Bas tum se hi hai meri manzil,
Bas tumse hi hai chahatein"
Neil continued to read the lines slowly, and Radhika kept on interrupting every two minutes. "We need a perfect tune for this to match it with Radhika's voice. Umm.." Neil said, fanning himself with the paper. "I tell you guys.. I am not satisfied. It is not sounding.." Radhika closer her eyes, saying the words to herself. Suddenly, a smile appeared on her face. As she said the words to herself again and again, she got what it was all about. She found what was missing. She found what was wrong. "A MALE VOICE!" Radhika said, all of a sudden, leaving everyone in shock! "What?" Sam and Neil asked together. "If we get a male voice to sing, as a duet, then it will be perfect!!" Neil said, reading the lines again. "Dekho, these lines, will only sound good with two voices. We need another voice with Chashni." Neil said. "But.." Radhika said, falling in deep thought again. "But, who will sing?" Radhika asked.
"That, is the million dollar question!" Sam said, putting the papers together. "I tell you, finding a perfect voice will not be easy. Now from where do we get a male voice?" she said, very correctly. In the last few years, there was not many male singers in the college. It was either groups or bands, among which none of them would sing a duet, or boys who had no interest in singing. Radhika had hardly seen anyone with a guitar in the college. She always wondered why she was the only one who could connect through songs and loved poetry and imagination. Was there no one else? Although Radhika felt so, she always thought someday she would find someone with whom she would be able to share all her creative ideas. "We will surely find someone." Radhika said. "How can you be so sure Chashni?" Neil asked. "Aise keh rahe ho jaise you know many boys huh?" Neil laughed. Radhika laughed too. "I just feel, we will get someone. If I could finally find out from the darkness what was missing, why not this?" Radhika smiled sweetly.
