But that's it! They are projected as characters and not as HEROES that the main female leads fall for. Esp, someone like Sam who is stalked, manipulated and ultimately to be destroyed by the same hero.

And then we have fan wars over who he should be with!😲😆

This is guy is AT THIS POINT a negative character. Negative characters are interesting to watch. But they give me acute attacks of nausea when projected as heroes to be fantasized about.

I would SO watch a movie about Stalin.😆. He was actually good looking in his younger pics. But doesn't mean I am going to be happy watching women fantasize about a mass murderer.

But that's the fan's reaction. And we shouldn't read too much into it. I mean as far as me watching the show, all I've seen is this is character who's grey/creepy/fascinating and the actor is doing a good job of it.

I mean Sam is being manipulated, she's falling for a persona. None of them actually know him. He's fooling them. It's great story telling of how far this character can go.

The glorification comes from fan's end. And that's not the story teller's fault.

As for your Stalin comparison, if he was played by, I don't know, George Clooney or somebody, fangirls will continue to fangirl. It's not worth reading into and psychoanalyzing the entire audience base. People watch shows with different levels of commitment, doesn't mean they condone everything shown and everything they fangirl about.

Come on dude 😆
You can't be oblivious to the sympathetic light Arjun is being painted in.

The close ups of the sad face while he is manipulating her (subtext- I have to destroy you, but I will cry while doing it, so that makes it OK😆)
The abs display. (Subtext- may be seducing you into bed with the stated intention of leaving you high and dry, but I am HAWT, so babe, say 'take me, I am yours'😆)
The soulful BGM (Subtext- what he is doing may be criminal but somehow oh so HAWT and romantic)

Right manipulation, to gain "sympathy". I get you. SO MANY shows 😆
It's a common device. Sp shows love doing that. But what I've seen so far of Arjun, I don't get the feeling that they want him to be the good guy. Because the stuff he's doing is so clearly wrong, that I find it almost deliberate.

If Sam or Rad have some verity of Stockholm syndrome and love him for his manipulation, then it's a different story.

Right now he's a manipulative creep who wants sympathy. I like that build up.

I saw this now 😆 I have seen Gone Girl but I much preferred the book. The ending of the movie created much debate eh!? 😆 ppl are still trying to figure it out lol. I would also say that Arjun depicts traits of Kevin Costner in Mr Brooks and Matt Damon in The talented MR Ripley! I think he is more a combo of these two characters than anything.

If only desi tv spent a fraction of the time that its watchers do on analyzing character, portrayal and the wider implications of all these things.

But it's early days yet.

(Not that I'm super hopeful about Arjun developing along the lines of a truly complex character struggling with different conflicting feelings, beliefs and actions-- soaps like this have a history of starting out with a promising male lead with lots of potential who eventually ends up as a stunted, petulant, thick-headed man-child.)

But serves me right for watching anyway, I suppose.
