Barkha Bisht in a still from Doli Saja Ke

Barkha Bisht aka Anupama, who by her own admission is superstitious, refused to enact a sequence where she was to play her on-screen husband Indraneil Sengupta aka Daksh's widow in Doli Saja Ke. Barkha and Indraneil have been together for some years and will soon get married.

In Doli Saja Ke, Barkha plays Anupama, who is considered unlucky by her father (Akshay Anand). In the show, Anupama's father dreams that she is married to Daksh (Indraneil Sengupta) and he fears that the star-crossed woman's husband may die.

While shooting for the dream sequence, Barkha was required to dress in a white sari as a widow. She also had to enact typical scenes like howling before Daksh's dead body and then break her bangles.

When Barkha was briefed about the sequence, she refused to shoot even though the producers and the channel heads tried to convince her.

An insider from the production house said, "Both Barkha and Indraneil are getting married in March this year. Naturally, she was not ready to shoot for the scene which involved her real life boyfriend. She bluntly refused and told the production house to do away with the scene."

Indraneil, who was shooting at some other place, received calls from the production house as well as the channel requesting him to convince Barkha. After several hours of convincing, Barkha agreed to shoot for the scene.

When contacted, Barkha admitted, "It was a dream sequence where Daksh dies and Anupama was supposed to cry like a widow. I had no problems with the scene till I realised that it was an elaborate scene where I have to follow all the rituals. The most dreadful part was that I was supposed to wear a white sari and break the bangles next to Neil's (Indraneil) body wrapped in a white sheet. It was too much for me, and I refused to do the scene"

She further added, "Neil and I have known each other for long now. We will be getting married very soon. Acting like a widow with the person whom I am marrying in real life is a tough call. You can call me superstitious, but the thought itself gives me jitters. I decided not to do it and requested them to do away with the dream sequence."

Thankfully, the drama ended when Indraneil stepped in. "Eventually, Indraneil came to the producer's rescue as it was an important scene according to them. He very sweetly managed to convince me and told me that I am lucky for him, though I am playing an unlucky character in the show. He managed to make me rethink my decision about the scene. I did it only for him," she said.

Thanks for sharing. This is too much for a girl to show on a screen. But I didn't get the director's point. They picturized all the scenes of Anu cremating Chet without his presence in the scene. Then why did they have to show Neil for that scene.I don't know why this scene is so important to show on TV?
