Samrat is very easy to understand - all that matters to him is himself. He's an incredibly self absorbed, egoistical Indian male.
Another member here mentioned that to an outsider he wouldn't come across as bad - on paper sure - he works hard, earns well, provides for his entire family (parents, brother and sister in law included) and he's not a wife beater in the physical sense.
I fail to agree with anyone who will classify a person as good or bad just based on the above listed criteria. In Samrat's case - he is going above and beyond as far as fulfilling his DUTY as a son, brother and brother-in-law, however his demeanor and attitude towards people and women in general in my opinion really nullifies the "good" he does as far as providing for his family.
The way I see his character is a very dark shade of grey - meaning I see much more bad than good in him. I completely agree with him going above and beyond as far as fulfilling his duty in providing for his family and working hard, however that doesn't give him the right to treat his family the way he does.
In the 3-4 weeks the show has been on air - every step of the way we see Samrat as the kind of person who will do anything to satisfy his ego. Everything is always about him, and he treats his family so poorly - always belittling his elder brother, behaving rudely with his parents - ya u provide for them but how does that give u the right to disrespect them?
The writers have done a good job of keeping his characterization consistent thus far - he's not hard to understand at all - he's just terribly ill-tempered, arrogant, egoistic and rude.
Urmi is in for a very rude awakening when she realizes the person she married is not the person she imagined him to be. While the situation is rough for her - I unfortunately am not able to sympathize with her primarily because she had many instances to understand Samrat's true colors but over looked them.
