From BARC India website I understood that from this week TRP is taken based on daily averages and not on weekly averages.
Would like to know what difference it makes exactly. Weekly average is the weighted average of daily averages right or am I missing something here.
Also read that 2 weeks down the line they are introducing market segregation and target audience. So what all will fall there.
I mean will the shows have different rating. I mean which shows do good in rural areas and which in urban areas. Also will it include target segregation based on age groups.
But will TV rating alone help for this or mediums like hotstar are also used. I have seen some people in this forum who are knowledgeable on TRP system. Hence putting my queries here to understand it better.

Shruthi, it's kind of confusing, I tried asking some DABH members, they too seem unsure 😆

the rating shown in BARC site and other blog sites are always different...then we got to know that BARC measures the repeat slot TRP as well...

but one thing I know is now trp has increased because new locations have been added this time, which I believe the audience consists of more DABH fans...

and what is the point of splitting rural areas and urban areas? TRP should be an average of all household, from the beginning I never liked the BARC system (not just because DABH rating is low 😆) but overall they seem to be confused and kept changing the method to take ratings and now coming up with more silly ideas...

No niruba. I am for segregation of markets. Let us know which show do well in urban and which in rural. An online rating will also be fine to know the popularity of shows online.
This will help in ad segmentation also. For programmes that reach more rural households, ads of that type can be placed, urban areas shows can get more chic ads. Online shows can also get ads. This kind of segmentation in the long run can give differential shows. Some shows will have universal appeal, but some will have only appeal to rural or urban audience. But then channels need not pull a show suddenly if the target audience is watching it.
Currently with no segregation all are forced to watch the same stalemate Saas-Bahu sagas whereas market is opening for various show types.
See it was the opening of multiplex that bought change to the movie viewing pattern. Many content based movies succeeded because of multiplexes. The movie DCH was a hit only in metroes when it was released, but slowly it has become a cult classic. So TV too need a change for that market segmentation and rating based on segmentation is important. Because revenue is needed and it is dependant on TRPs. It cannot be simple averages to decide what everyone will watch.

I get your point shruthi,

as i said before, most channels are working towards digital media & technology, so online will overtake all medium in the future...

when trp rating first started it was for the channel & advertisers, so in that case your point is valid...

but at the end of the day, only shows which do well in both areas will survive, thats why i thought it is not necessary...

need not be niruba. yes shows that do well on both segments can run for 6-7 years like sns. But the shows that do well in urban or online medium they can be finite say running for 6 months to say 2 years on how they are dwelling in the target area.
This will ensure both quality content and mass content going side by side. See if a show is doing good among the target audience it will get the ROI in its finite run. Also now options for dubbing, similar areas in international and regional markets can be targeted to increase the ROI of such shows.
Basically what I am telling is that segregation will ensure different theme shows stand a chance along with SBS and people like me will get something nice to watch in long term. I am not looking for anything that will run for 6-7 years. I prefer good stories with finite endings. And there will be many like me who wants seasons or fixed tenures.
If you look the movie Kahaani was not 100 cr club neither was Badlapur. But both these movies were critically acclaimed and commercially successful. But without multiplexes such movies wouldn't have had a chance in the first place.
