It is not uncommon at all, especially in the community I come from where academics is valued over all else, to deem house work secondary.
Sandhya is not bad at all for someone who had never cooked before marriage. She did learn how to make dal baati churma overnight. Even today she made a complicated item like kachori well despite all the heckling she was getting from Suraj. Suraj had abandoned his gulab jamun lesson midway which caused her to really fail today. I was hoping she would be given at least an honorable mention for her kachoris.😔
The time pressure of competitions can unnerve even experts. I think Sandy did really well considering the circumstances.

In today's world, it is studies that get women ahead and not knowing basic cooking. Quite frankly not knowing how to cook is not a big deal because most woman will make primitive basic meals at least or order out. However i think a lot of people here are confusing basic cooking (now a days in the west basic cooking is putting things in the oven) with the kind of cooking that sandyha is expected to do. I know many girls who have gotten married and do not know how to make daal or roti. They can make omelets, etc, But Sandy isn't being asked to make omelettes and bacon is she.
