You can never really run away from reality can you? Wouldn't it be wonderful if real life were like the movies? Where when you are in love nothing stands in your way. Where everyone is happy and no one is left out. Unfortunately, real life is not like the movies and Riddhima and Armaan were faced with this unfortunate reality check. Here we had Ridz waiting in anticipation for her husband to come to meet her so that she could tell him what lies in her heart. For once she was going to take the first step towards Sid and let him know what she has been keeping hidden for so long from herself and from his as well. So as she waits for Sid to arrive she reminisces about the wonderful moments she has shared with him since they decided to open the doors to their hearts and to each other. And as she continues to wait she gets the bright idea to turn off the lights so that she can "surprise" Sid. Personally, I'm not sure why a woman who is afraid of the dark would want to turn off the lights in a random corner of the hospital. I know it was a setup so that the story could unfold as it did, but still what could possible drive a woman so afraid of the dark to turn off the light. And then it clicked. You see she didn't turn off the light to "surprise Sid" at least not subconsciously. I think she turned off the light so that she would be able to say what lies in her heart under the safety of darkness. For without the lights it is much easier to say what you want without the fear of seeing the other person's reaction to what you are saying. So yeah Ridz was going to be a little bit of a coward, but at least she was making an effort towards Sid and their relationship.
Of course, this is DMG and it is never that simple. And so when the door opens and a man walks in Ridz unleashes what she has been holding in. She finally acknowledges to this man that she has noticed all the efforts he has been making. That all of his sorrys and please forgive me gifts were not a waste. That he has touched her heart and that she realizes that sometimes it is her turn to take the first step. Then she admits something that is essential to a relationship that they are in this together. I'm your wife. And as she says this she has smile on her face of pure joy. Then she tilts her head down in shyness. For she has taken a large leap. She has admitted to her husband that she thinks of them as a them and herself as his wife. The words may not have been a lot but they meant a lot. You see Ridz admitted openly what Sid has become to her, he is a part of who she has become and he defines who she is in life, a wife.
After speaking these words of truth she waits in anticipation for what Sid has to say to her. You see she's not afraid of her feelings anymore, nor is she really nervous about what Sid feels because deep down she knows what he feels. And you see just how comfortable she is when she doesn't hear a response from the man that has entered the room, she doesn't get sad nor does she get upset and storm out. Instead, she turns around and walks up to the man she has just confessed her heart out to and wraps her arms around him. In that moment, although the man she is holding is not her husband, the meaning behind the gesture speaks volumes. See this is the first time since the mat jao scene where Ridz has taken the offensive. It is the first time she has gone to Sid, instead of simply running away or reacting to Sid. It is most definitely the first time Ridz has made the first move without instigation. And so even though the man whom she hugged was not the man it was meant for, to me it was a heart touching moment. You see to me it was the beginning of Ridz's journey to admitting her love for her husband. No not her falling in love with her husband, but her actually making the moves toward confessing what lies in her heart.
When Ridz realized that the person she actually spoke those words to were not her husband but the man she had left behind. She was shocked. And yeah I'm sure it's because she wasn't expecting it, and sure she was weirded out after all of the stuff she confessed. But I think that the real reason she was shocked was because she had just in a way rubbed her happiness in her ex's face. Sure it wasn't intentional but as we all know Ridz will forever have a special place for Armaan. And she would never want to hurt him, but she had.
Now I know, why couldn't Sid be the one who heard Ridz's confession? After all it was meant for him. And yeah this too frustrated me, but you know what there is a very important thing that came out of this encounter. For through this encounter Armaan heard from Ridz's own mouth the words that lie in her heart. This was not Ridz sugar coating her feelings for Armaan to help him move forward, nor could Armaan fool himself that she was lying to herself. For the words Ridz spoke Armaan was never meant to hear, and as such he was forced to face reality. That Riddhima had already moved on. (Now I know Armaan "knew" this before, but had he really accepted it in his heart? I'm not so sure, in fact I'm pretty sure the answer was no because post dhanno drama round 1 Armaan went to his locker and pulled out a comic book Ridz gave him and in that moment you knew his heart still hadn't completely let her go.) So this scene of confession was maybe meant more for Armaan than even for Sid. For Sid and Riddhima still have a long journey together in front of them, but in order for Armaan to continue on his journey through life he must be free of Riddhima completely not only from his mind but his heart as well. And that confession from Ridz removed all hope he might have held on to for her. It was clear not only from the tears in Armaan's eyes, but the sympathy Ridz had in hers. In fact, when Ridz asked Armaan, "Have you been able to move on?" the second the question left her mouth she knew she had driven a nail into Armaan. She knew that even if he hadn't managed to at that point, that after what he heard from her own mouth he had no choice but to move on.
So when Sid comes in all innocent to what has transpired between Armaan and Ridz and spills the beans about how Ridz has moved back into their home, Ridz gives him an uncomfortable and slightly angry look and leaves in anger. She leaves because the feelings and emotions she revealed to earlier thinking it was Sid caused not only harm to Armaan unnecessarily, but it's also something that took a lot of guts for her to express. And it's something that she might not be able to say again soon to Sid. So she left, for after pouring out your heart it is difficult to recover and repour again. Yes, Sid can't be blamed because he sees Armaan as a friend and as a big brother so when he tells Armaan what has gone on in his life it is because earlier Armaan encouraged him to tell him "everything". But you see after today's encounter Armaan doesn't want to know everything, because now its not him helping Ridz move on but its Ridz has already moved on. He even says at one point, "You finally let Sid into your heart" and the way he says it is not a man who knew it was going to happen, but one that is slightly surprised that it actually happened. You see both Armaan and Ridz know that in order for Ridz to accept Sid in her heart she had to remove Armaan from it. For you can only be in love with one person. And that is the reality Armaan had to face today.
So I leave with this, yeah the hug was hard to watch. Not only because the words that were spoken before it and the action itself were meant for Sid and he never got to hear or see it. Or because it was experienced by the ex. But because in the process Armaan got a reality check. He was forced to face the reality that Ridz had already moved on. It was also hard because what should have been a wonderful, touching moment of moving forward got turned into facing the past and closing the door to it forever. You see that's how real life differs from movies. Unfortunately, unlike the movies you cannot run away from your past nor can you leave it without a final closure. Sure Ridz had closed the doors to past both to her mind and her heart a long time ago. And sure at the basketball court Armaan shut the door to his past in his mind, but his heart hadn't quite shut it's door. So after today Armaan had no choice but to shut that door forever. As for Sid, by not seeing what Ridz had to say or receiving her hug he lost the opportunity to know what truly lies in his wife's heart. But you know what, Sid and Ridz have just begun their journey and sure by missing out in this moment their acknowledgment of each other's feelings got delayed, but they have time. And with this time their true emotions will be revealed to each other, the when, where and how aren't as important as the fact that it will happen when the time is right for them.
