I'd been waiting for this particular scene for a long time. A V---E---R---Y long time. I hoped at one point they would show Jhanvi's lawyers fighting a case, and Viraaj attempting to drag it but eventually losing. I knew for a fact that courtroom drama is as different from reality as one can get, so that definitely wasn't what I was expecting. But given the power in narrative hitherto given to Viraaj, and the fight we've seen Sia put up with him, I would have expected more than this...this...rushed cop-out of a scenario. It had its wonderful moments (Raghav's argument that with Viraaj's drama the decision could stretch for years, because that
is what happens in a
lot of court cases, and Sia's joy at the end of the proceedings was something I'd been waiting for for a long, long time) -- but it was rushed, didn't have the 'bigness' of a moment you'd expect from something so monumental to her (big enough for her to finally sit down and think of it as the end of an era for herself, as illustrated in the RaghavI scene after this one).
None of us would want the divorce track to drag, sure. But having it pan out for a few more days(by which I mean scenes that look like they will be happening a month or two later etc, as per court proceedings demands)? Having V's lawyer say a thing or two which could be shot down by S's lawyer easily? Having witnesses like Komolika or Malholtra at hand?
But of course, the reason ultimately given will be that there was a leap ahead and they had to hurry. Sure...hurry so much that you'll concentrate lovingly on Viraaj's need for gourmet hotel food, but wrap up the divorce track that has snatches of good things, but isn't workable - realistically or dramatically - as a whole? The divorce IS the statement in the serial...it's the culmination of
that portion of Jhanvi's journey - more so than the exposing scene was. I'm saddened that such a difficult journey has met with such a weak end.
