*CHAPTER 4*
"Wouldn't you salute your senior,Major ?"
Romi's hostile voice reached his ears but his eyes refused to move even a inch away from Soumya.Romi's word did caught him off guard,he quickly glanced at the badge Soumya was wearing 'Lt. Colonel' it stated.It was true though Doctors get promotion faster than soldiers and they usually acquire officer posts.A wistful smile etched onto his features,he distinctly remembered her saying that one day she'll be at higher position than him.
Soumya couldn't look into his eyes which were grazing softly at her.Just when she thought she could finally erase that particular part of her youth,it came back to her with full force.Their ranks were no shock to her,it was Rudra's overwhelming presence that was smothering her.She shook her head at Romi and walked ahead towards the bunks, passing Rudra in the process.Her hand accidentally brushed against him,which broke the dreamy spell casted on him.
"Wait"
Rudra called off as soon as her hand brushed against his.He wanted to hold that hand,engulfing it in his own hand but that would destroy all his chances to ever talk to her again.He barely controlled himself,his hand crawling towards her..She tilted her head back to look at him , confusedly.
Putting his hand on the side of his forehead in the salute position ,he nodded at her.She momentarily felt shocked by his response.He was never like this,she was expecting him to throw some childish tantrum,but none of it came.Neither acknowledging it or rejecting ,she continued walking as if nothing happened.Words and thoughts juggled across her mind as she barely made it to her bunk.
Romi stood there blankly ,she expected something explosive as both of them had fiery personalities but the scene that played in front of her,made her froze back,she felt like she was intruding them just by standing their,it felt something too personal to her.She watched as Rudra hurriedly went to the other direction and stumbling into Priyanka and Ranveer.Without giving a glance to them, Rudra went ahead.
"What happened to him?"
Ranveer suspiciously asked Romi.He was sure that it had something to do with Romi.
"Why are you asking me? Ask him.I think he has a history with Doctor"
She fired at him.Still numb from the intense episode that happened earlier.She could easily guess that their is a history between Rudra and Soumya.Even the air around knew it
"No wonder,he looked as if he has seen a ghost"
Romi faked a scoff ,her own curiosity was peeking up.
"And Who would be that Doctor"
Priyanka piped up in the conversation.
"Lt.Colonel Soumya Kapoor"
Both Ranveer and Prinku looked at eachother ,to confirm that their hearing ability is still intact .
"She is a senior now"
Ranveer whined.
"Lets go and meet her"
Priyanka squealed and pulled Ranveer with her ,taking enormously big strides towards Sumo's bunk.She was ecstatic at that moment ,everything felt perfect.Her steps suddenly faltered as the gears in her brain worked.She was reminded again of those insecurities ,that were buried somewhere down in her heart.She was not ready to meet her,yet.She can't reach to her this time.
"You go in.I'll see her later"
She muttered and turned around to go by the shore.

Priyanka stared deeply at the soft waves,that were rolling towards her.She was thinking hard about the fate that was currently messing up with her.Would their friendship will be same again ? Is she even a friend ?
"Why are you here ?"
Rudra questioned her,sitting on the rock just behind her.She was starlet for a moment.
"You don't own this place.I can go wherever i wan't"
Prinku retorted.Rudra smiled at her catty behaviour,he was well aware of the cause of it.He didn't ask anymore questions, just waited for her to spit up whatever was bothering her.Forcing her to tell would do no good,she will become more vulnerable.He knew it better than anyone else.
"I don't know what to do"
She finally spoke ,taking a deep breath,ready to face all her worries.
"I don't know where we stand.Does she still consider me as friend or am i long forgotten.I can't reach to her cause i don't know where she stands.She will have to come to me this time"
A thoughtful expression crossed his features,he was again jumping down the memory lanes.
"You're gonna pop your shoulder if you keep doing like that"
Rudra scolded Soumya as she again tried to shoot.She missed her class on shooting and now she was finding it difficult to shoot while keeping her balance in.
"Why don't you ask your friends for help"
He asked coming behind her and adjusting her hand angle.She was quite for a moment,thinking how to tell him without looking like a fool.
"I don't have friends"
She whispered with a sigh.It was hard to make friends when she doesn't even know what are friends for.
"Now that'a lie.How come you don't have friends?"
Rudra seemed starlet by her honest and simple answer ,he was hoping for some cynical answer.
"I don't know what are friends?.I never had them"
She said in a strong willed tone, not having friends never bothered her.Being home-schooled and a rare human contact at college,she never knew the definition of friend.Her mother never let her make friends.To anyone else it might come off as an absurd ,ridicules question but it was her reality.
"Well in simpler terms Friends are the family that you can choose,they care for you and help you."
Rudra explained, he had an idea about this after seeing her barely talking to anyone in the academy.He couldn't imagine the fact that how come someone lived his life without friends,this concept seemed too far fetched to him.His friends were his first family.
"And how do we make fiends.Surely their isn't a magnet to attract them:"
She questioned him through a sarcastic comment that her tongue couldn't hold back.She was really curious about this new concept he had introduced to her.
" Well as the matter of fact you already have friends"
His eyes sparkled as he stated.
"There is Prinku,she is definitely your friend.Then Ranveer and me too.I can be your first friend here.Totally awesome".
" Hmm.I think i'll give the title of first friend to Priyanka not you.She reached out for me,she held her hand for me.Right??"
She teased Rudra,though there was a seriousness in her tone.She completely meant what she said.She was happy to find a friend like him.
"Huh.That's what i get.Anyways I am going"
He scoffed at her ,a smile was about to erupt on his features.A feeling of satisfaction and giddiness came into play.
"And don't put all you pressure on shoulder,let your body take the fall"
Priyanka's endless questions pulled him.out of the black hole that was beginning to suck him up.
"Don't overthink.Give her sometime,she'll come around"
For once he was sure that Soumya will reach out for her.She might not accept him but she wouldn't let Prinku fall.Friends mattered for her more than anything.

"How come you are Senior? That's completely unfair"
Ranveer implored,a tantrum was on its way.She threw a amused smile on his way,he wasn't changed at all.
"Well Whiny boy.I have my advanced medical degree and an experience if 2 years of UN service.Easy promotion"
She explained with a teasing tone.She liked ruffling his feathers while he glared at her nickname for him.
"Totally unfair"
He muttered,a whiny tone lacing his voice.
"Is she here too?Prinku"
She questioned moving onto the serious and dangerous questions.He nodded at her .He was actually waiting for her this question,he was curious to listen Soumya's take on the situation.
"Guess.I have to cross the bridge this time and reach for her"
Soumya tried to smile which appeared more like a thin line.She desperately wanted to make certain things right.It was her time to make amends with Prinku.Ranveer reached out his hand and ruffled her hair which earned him a slap on the back of his head.
"Geez you violent woman"
He cried out ,pretending to be in pain.
"Are you disrespecting your Senior ?"
Ranveer immediately straightened up and looked at her face only to see her smiling with mirth.A mischievous glint appearing in her eyes.
"I'm out of here.So unfair"
He babbled while making his way out of her bunk.A wishful look spread on her face as looked at his retreating back.It felt good to talk to him.There were too many good memories along with some bad incidents.But bad had overthrown good.Just because things went down wrong with Rudra ,she cut off her ties with everyone that cared for her.It physically pained her to think about those rueful moments.She didn't held him responsible for anything neither did she blamed him but things would never be same again.There was still bitterness left in her for Him.
Rudra stood outside her cabin contempting on going inside.He was desperately looking for a chance to see her and when he finally got his moment ,he hesitated a bit.There was too much guilt on his shoulders and seeing her like that worsened it.Finally after a lot of hesitating moments he knocked.
"Come in"
she ordered.She still wasn't used to the idea of seeing him everyday, how will they work together.She needs to fight off her feelings to concentrated her or else nothing will left.She was adamant on not repeating the same mistake again.
"There is a medical check up scheduled for tomorrow for all soldiers.You are the incharge of it"
He started off to which she cut off and said
"I know"
He stood their awkwardly for a moment,seeing how much damage he had caused.
"Is their anything else you need"
Her voice was stiff ,stone hard.Those familiar feelings were bubbling up after seeing him after that long.She was fighting with her emotions just like him but for different reasons
"How are you ?"
He finally posted his question which was lingering on his mind from the tome he had seen her.He knew the answer would be something harsh and hurtful,he was ready to take everything she'll give, even if it is hate.He need to repent fir his grave mistakes.
"Doesn't matter"
She cynically answered ,her tone laced with bitterness.
