Lik, the truth is mostly all over India you remove your sandals before entering any house.Mostly it is for hygiene and as guests you dont want to dirty your hosts house.The fact that Desai live in Mumbai means that their house is a apartment .In that case the shoe rack would be inside the house near the front door .My maternal house is in small town in Kerala where we keep our shoes outside the house but in Chennai where i live we remove them in the house, near the front door .In Chennai it is a apartment.

It's just always bothered me that in serials and Bollywood films you see people with shoes inside the house, walking all around the house with their shoes on. Shoes, not slippers or such. I can understand if they are more upperclass maybe. But not middle class.
